I know I have been very innactive lately around here, I have still been terribly busy with college work, getting acclimated with college life, partying, and working on music.

Speaking of music I wanted to talk a little bit about this project me and best friend and fellow rapper, Westifeezy, are working on. For the past few weeks we have been trying to work on this remix of the song, Brooklyn Girls, titled Oxford Girls. Essentially what it is, is our anthem to the culture, girls, and lifestyle of Miami University and Oxford, Ohio. My verses and most of Wes' verse (since I helped him a ton to right it too) are easily the best things I have every written. They are extremely clever and witty (when it references to the life here), and the flow is spot on IMO. We have played some sample of the song for several people around campus and they all agree its very good. In fact, the anticipation for the song is pretty high, mainly among members of the freshman class but even some upperclassmen. A lot of people who really liked what they heard from the song are willing to spread it so it can take over the Miami University campus.

With this in mind my friend and I decided it would be interesting to set the goal for number of downloads for the first day to be 1000. Do you think this number is a little too ambitious or too under-ambitious? I plan on attaching the original MP3 file to this topic here at noon on saturday, since its really easy to follow how many downloads a file has.

Although you all know nothing about Oxford, Ohio or Miami University, I am asking you to download the song when it is released (as many times as you want, the more the better). Maybe even give it a listen and give me feedback too.

This song will be the first single from my mixtape "The American Dream" which I plan on releasing in the next few months

I got it before the link was taken down, and I really enjoyed the song. Very laid back, even though I couldn't get the references. However, great job, and I'm now anticipating the release of your mixtape.

Not my thing, didn't enjoy it honestly

Thanks for your feedback Robbie and JJ. I'm glad you were able to enjoy the song without getting the references I made. As I mentioned in the first post, the whole song is about life in my college, but you have been able to look past that. JJ, is this not your cup of tea because its not talented or because you simply don't really care for hip hop music?

BTW, good news I believe once I take in to account the 700 or so downloads this song had before posix took the original download down, the song did reach 1000 downloads in the first 24 hours, which is something I am very proud of. :D

Thanks, to any of you all who downloaded the song. I would like to hear some more feedback, I am sure we have some other hip-hop heads around here like wanted and JDP.

    It's the latter don't worry :p
It was good quality, I think, I just didn't enjoy it, but I can imagine others who enjoy that style would.

    downloads: 547

just listened to reintroduction. It's great! Although if you slowed the overall rap part and expanded it by 2 or 3 seconds it'll sound better.

Because from the slow start to the jump in to the rap part. Transition was way too fast for me.

And the commentary while rapping sounded a little bare.

Yeah, it's really gotta be slowed down a little

I do actually listen to and appreciate rap, but I can't really even comment on it because I couldn't follow. Sure certain rappers rap fast, like Eminem, but I don't think it's too insulting to say you're not at his level yet, and therefore there isn't any clarity to this. Based off Oxford Girls though I can tell you're capable, even if I couldn't relate to those lyrics

That may be the final version of the track, but maybe consider this in the future

My honest thoughts on Oxford Girls: I think it's a good "college" song, I really do. It would be great at parties, tailgating, etc. The lyrics flow really well so it's easy to listen to and the references to other colleges are well done.

Would I listen to it regularly? No. Then again I don't listen to stuff like Eminem, Asher Roth, Kanye, and other Top 40 artists regularly either, so take that for what it's worth.

And well, it's miles ahead of our (NC State's) Wolfpack Party remix, haha. Welcome To The Carter 2010 is a little bit better of a song for us.

And whatever happens, people do like songs about themselves, so I have no doubt this will be (or already is?) a hit on your campus.

Great news, I have officially completed my mixtape. This is easily my biggest accomplishment in my musical career. Nothing is better than the feeling of listening to my whole album through and hearing all the pieces fall in to place. To celebrate, I present to you an exclusive "leak" release of the entire album. Thanks for all who helped me along this journey... Hopefully I can get somewhere with this. I think lyrically it is good enough. After 2/25/2011, which is the official release date, I would love for you guys to help me spread this shit. I want as many people as possible to hear this mixtape

Without further ado, I present to you: The American Dream! :mantis:
