RCT Discussion / Loopy Landscapes and a General Lack Thereof

I was just doing some thinking today, and it crossed my mind that not very many people play LL anymore. This site is largely dominated by RCT2, and now I'm curious as to why, since the two games only share a couple of key differences.
So the question I submit for discussion is this: Why do you, as a Parkmaker, not build parks in LL? Is it because it is more difficult to match the detail of RCT2? Is it because RCT2 has so many custom objects? Or is it because you are like me and can't find the disc?
Or, for you LLLL people: Why do you prefer LL over RCT2? -

I played RCT2 a couple of times. I found it overly complicated and the fact that I couldn't play it in windowed mode or mute it made it overly annoying. Now I just rarely play, but I find LL much more enjoyable when I do. -

I guess I prefer ll because I prefer building in the "macro" rather than the "micro", and I'm intrigued by the process of figuring out how to make things in ll, rather than just downloading everything.. I really don't see the need to use the amount of detail (read: little pieces) a lot of rct2 players (and some ll players) seem obsessed with, and the sheer amount of custom material confuses me. Also, I can build faster in ll, and I have a really short attention span.
MA, why don't you just turn the volume on your computer down all the way? -

I can't seem to find my disc, but I never really got into it because although I played LL for a while before I got RCT2, I saw it as a game, not a canvas. I didn't see RCT's artistic capabilities until I saw Tyandor's Shady Oasis park. So I tried to play RCT2 like that, and I find going back to LL to be quite a challenge. -

MA: You know that you can actually play RCT2 in window mode AND mute it by using a Virtual Machine? ^^
Ontopic: Dunno.. I got RCT2 for Christmas after having seen it at a friend's house. I just never really owned LL up until a year ago. -

Here are a few reasons, don't fight about them, as these are mostly just opinions:
1. My LL disk is broken
2. It is harder to build stuff in the game, and building something simple can take a long time
3. There is less detail in LL
4. Depending on the style and park, it seems like it is easier to get an accolade in RCT2 rather than LL
5. RCT2 has a much cleaner look most of the time because usually objects aren't improvised (such as coaster track for trees, barrels for supports, etc.) unlike LL -

I always found that annoying toocouldn't play it in windowed mode or mute it
that's actually one of the best qualities I find with LL. Building a park in it actually requires some ingenuity with what you have. Building parks in LL is, to some degree, a bit more difficult because you have to think "how am I going to do this with the tools provided", but I find that to be less necessary in RCT2 (and to some degree, RCT3) because all the tools to do things that were complicated in LL are already there without any hacks (such as stacking). It takes less ingenuity in RCT2 because the new tools made it easy.RCT2 has a much cleaner look most of the time because usually objects aren't improvised
Yes I know musicman basically said this already anyway
Grr...There is less detail in LL

Well, he's right on that last one RCTMASTA. No matter how detailed you get with LL you still won't be able to complete with RCT2.
I'm in a bit of the same boat as Casimir. I got interested in RCT after playing LL at a relative's house, bought the original, bare rct1, yet lost interest after a year or so and went to zoo tycoon. RCT2 got me back into and I've never really attempted to try LL as I'm content with the game and ncso. (I did get LL eventually, a year or so ago.) -

I lost my RCT2 disk sometime last year. I felt like I was morally alright with getting a pirated copy after that since I had already bought it, and it's worked like a dream since.wow, exactly the same

Muting is possible, go to options and just turn volume off.I couldn't play it in windowed mode or mute it made it overly annoying.
Windowed mode is only possible in a virtual machine which honestly is kind of a pain in the ass, that I still need to try since I get like a gazilion freezes per second.. -

I play both. To me they are both fun in different ways and they both seem to complement eachother -

I was gonna pass on adding anything to this topic ( I really do hate the RCT2 vs. LL arguments) until I read this:It takes less ingenuity in RCT2 because the new tools made it easy.
IMO, the "new tools" and custom objects, etc. make things more difficult because of all the options available. There are things built in RCT2 that don't even enter the LL players mind simply because they're not possible. Thankfully, (sorry posix) RCT2 brought to fruition the era of "reality" building that would have never occurred without it.
Believe me, it's just as challenging to push the veritable limits of RCT2 as it is in LL and takes just as much ingenuity to do it right. Of course, if your building style consists of box stations and randomly placed trees, you might not comprehend this. -

Just because something is more difficult doesn't make it better. Most people don't brag if they have a more difficult job than another person.
