RCT Discussion / Interview with CP6

    Watch it on YouTube!

Had to do it like that for my project on RCT. I kinda like it, so maybe in the future I will do more like this. Just this was kept short for the project and did not go in to as much detail about NE as I normally like too.

Cp6 sounds way smarter than I thought haha
I'm really surprised that this and your video of Kumba aren't worshiped by all the rct players who put up videos on youtube... because for the most part their work could really use a touch of this

^ Are you trying to say I'm stupid? :p Well maybe sometimes...

I'll be honest in that I haven't listened to it because I always cringe when I hear my voice recorded, but I was glad to help you with that. It involved a lot of restarting because I kept messing up... also I had to stop myself from going on and on and on as I tend to do that. I wish I could've talked more about my job as it relates to RCT, but unfortunately there's only so much I can say! Anyway, I was just glad to help Darren out.

Cp6 sounds way smarter than I thought haha

By "way smarter" do you really mean "more nerdy"?
I really wish now that I'd been able to provide some audio/video for Darren's project for no other reason than to let anyone seeing/hearing it believe that not every RCT'er is fresh off the geek squad.
I mean...with Darren and Brian both looking (and sounding ) like they came straight off the set of "Revenge of the Nerds" ( hell, Brian's almost a dead-ringer for Anthony Edwards/ Gilbert and Darren could have easily been a double for Robert Carradine/Skolnick 8)) and then Leo babbling on and on (and on) incoherently while we see a screen of something happening that involves a bunch of land tiles changing colors....this really could have used some K0NG-style flava.

Shit...guess I can count at least three people off of the list for helping me with my black holes now....dammit

Well, you got one thing right :peace:
  • CedarPoint6%s's Photo
I make no effort to say that I'm not a nerd. I really don't have any issue with that! I have a design job for a theme park, so that's good enough for me!
  • K0NG%s's Photo
Dude...nothing wrong with nerdism. Some of my closest friends over the years have been complete nerds and I've never had an issue with it. It's just that I'm completely the opposite...a hardass, Harley riding, long haired heavy metal motherfucker that takes no shit from anyone. And, it's readily apparent when you see me. That's why I said that I would have been a great contrast to what's in Darren's project.

Ironically, I made a 'nerd' tremble in fear this afternoon. Me and Mrs. K0NG went to Harbor Freight to pick up a few things for the complex. One of them being a 100 ft, industrial garden hose that they'd advertised online for $18.79. Being that it regularly sells for $49.99, it was a great deal. But, when we checked out, they gave us grief over it and said that we needed to print the ad out and bring it in in order to get that price (that they seemed to have no knowledge of). Mrs. K0NG said no thanks (she's MUCH less vocal than me) because she didn't want to cause a scene and we walked out to the Qui with the other shit that we'd purchased. But, as I closed the rear door, I thought for a second and headed back in to the store and asked for the manager. He told me that same bullshit about printing the ad out and I got a little aggravated and told him, as I followed him into his office that nothing in the online ad made any mention of that and that I came up here for that fucking hose and wasn't planning on leaving without it. I said that if he'd pull up his OWN STORE'S website and show me where it said that in the ad...that I'd drive home, print the motherfucker and come back with it. He KNEW that it didn't say that, but he didn't want to look weak in front of his employees, so he stood his ground and insisted that I needed the printed ad. So, I walked over to him, leaned in real close as he sat at his little manager's desk and told him to bring up the motherfucking website on his motherfucking computer, show me where the fuck it said that a printed ad was necessary, and that, one way or another, I'd be on my way immediately.
He tried to bullshit me about not being able to access the internet from company computers (as I noticed three Firefox icons in his toolbar)...so, I told him that I knew better (not so nicely, but quietly enough to not cause a stir in the store) and to pull up the motherfucking ad right fucking now and, that if it said anything about needing a motherfucking printed page to get the motherfucking advertised price, I would, as stated previously, drive home, print the fucking thing out and come back for my motherfucking hose.
I was surprised that he hit the correct keys as he did what I asked...he was shaking like an epileptic frog on a frozen pond...but, he found his store's website, entered the sku and found the item in question. Needless to say, I got my $49.95 hose for the advertised price and even apologized to him for being a dick...even though I thought he should have been the one to apologize (customer service, what?) after all of the crap I had to deal with.

Funny thing was...I walked out of his office to tell Mrs. K0NG to grab her hose, check out and pay the reduced price for it....and she was nowhere to be seen. Looked out to the parking lot and saw her sitting in the Qui with the door open and the stereo blasting. Guess she really can anticipate my moves. That's why I committed to her 25 years ago. Love is a many splendored thing.

^Wow, you really seem like an utter dick in reality as well as online.
  • Cena%s's Photo
No, he isn't. The ad was just misconfusing and he was right to say something about it.

I miss the point K0NG, what you garden hose has to do with Brian talking about his job for Kumba his interview. Care to explain?

KONG was just trying to clear up for CP6 that even though KONG is the opposite of a nerd, he doesn't have anything against them, which for some reason made him think of that story and proceed to share it, that's all. I enjoyed the story. KONG, thank you for taking the time to type all of that.

Back on topic: I like the idea of recorded interviews as a voice sounds much more human than text. Nicely done interview both of you.

cp6, you're the man, nice interview. the way you feel about rct (towards the end of the clip) is the same way i feel and im sure others do as well. i cant really see myself putting the game down anytime soon and personally i dont like considering it a game since i think its more then that. good job on the interview

You just owned K0NG like no one else! Best thing is you guys will play in the FF league, might need to make that a week 1 match-up :mantis:

    Very interesting interview.

Allow me to bring up one question, as the points you brought up CP6, are very similar to my idea of the game. The more I think about real life parks and the game I come to the conclusion that the game is way too limited to design a park/ an area of a park. What do you think about this and how do you see the future in terms of taking our park concepts to the next level?
  • CedarPoint6%s's Photo
    That's an interesting point.
I think you're right in that the game is limited in that way that you'll never be able to really design a park or area. That said, I think it's the representation of it that makes the game powerful. Being able to get rough ideas down really helps me in terms of testing things and seeing how well something can translate from my head to a semi-reality. I would say that I'm very good at being able to visualize something in my head-- like an area or a ride interaction for example. I can picture it more or less in 3-D space and play with it all while in my head. But when you really start to put it down into something like RCT, you do get a better idea for spatial configurations. Relative heights, clearances, and the overall scale of things to people is where I find RCT useful.

I think in terms of in-game innovation, the diagonal scenery pieces are what really spurred growth by showing that things weren't just about 4 directions, but rather 8. And it allowed buildings to make softer edges and almost recreate curves in a way- as that is one thing that will never really be doable in the game. There's always going to be a lock into certain shapes and designs rather than something totally freeform. But mostly I find the use to be taking things from your head or from paper and turning it into a 3-D type model to explore and edit further.

I'm not sure where the game will go next in terms of innovation. I'd love to see more coaster styles or track pieces developed, but I'm not sure of how possible a lot of that is. I have a big list somewhere, haha. I think the main changes are going to come from scenery pieces-- getting smaller or more detailed in order to do more specific things. I know that's not the way a lot of people are wanting things to go, but I feel like that's the way it will continue. And as far as building realistically, I think it's a matter of innovation from the part of the builders. I find things that I can add every time I go to a park and my photo library of little details is well into the thousands by now. But a lot of it just comes from understanding how a real park comes together-- from the history up through design of new attractions along the back of house components . It's all in paying attention to the little details that are already out there and just considering all the issues of a design... which really comes from just trial and error.

So I'm not sure if that's answered things or not, but those are some of my considerations of the game recently.

woah, this site is made out of real people with real voices? I thought I was the only one... I'm out of here, this is starting to get nerdy! :p

anyway, nice interview, and it is strange to hear a real person actually talk about rct. I mean, most of us will probably never meet anyone else from this site (or even someone else who plays rct like us) and it often feels like I'm the only one, even though I know you guys are here. but you're not really here, you're just text on a screen. its like how those voices that tell me to murder people aren't really there, but I know they must exist.
