General Chat / Builder ( topic 2 and counting )

I'm making a new Game very similar to Rct2, it won't involve any up and running roller coasters until it reaches V2. It will have isometric graphics. I call it "Builder".
Keep in mind it will be open source. Feel free to modify it without the worry of any copyright infringements.

It's being programmed in yo yo game maker html5, (see yoyogames.com for more details). Since its html5 it will be online, for online play as well as for windows only native exe. If you own a Mac it will be playable in hmtl5. :)

    Edit: removed my off-topic indiocy...

    Nice!

I would like to see how this evolves. I have no idea if you are technically capable of making a game like that. But I would love to be surprised :D

Also that is your 999th post. Which can be seen as a (quadraple amazing!) upturned 666! What a fate life is.

^ that last thing you said made me laugh rediculously haha XD. I'm going to bed right now, but I'll be sure to post some neat stuff for you all tommorow after exams...

    My thoughts on this:

If you want to play RCT without the coasters, go play Minecraft.
  • K0NG%s's Photo

^It's never stated that you have to be better at something to judge it..
That would, for example, make the accolade panel useless when a spotlight park comes to voting..

First of all, I disagree with wholly and resent that remark.

Secondly, I dunno...give the guy some credit for having the initiative to attempt some of the things he's doing. That being said, I'm not sure that a non-roller coaster based game is gonna go over all that well at an RCT fansite.
  • Louis!%s's Photo
Ummmmm yeah, I can see why Posix locked this in the first place. If this isn't to do with RCT, or even rollercoasters for that matter, this really isn't the site to advertise this. especially in an RCT section of the forums.

    Moved to Basic Chat.

Oh and btw, you did just give Posix a reason to ban you. You just outright insulted him. You're treading on very thin ground now.
  • JoeZia%s's Photo
Sorry about third topic, I had the understandable impression he deleted this one, since it's has happened before. Anyway done with the insults, I'm uploading the some screen when I get home.
I didn't mean it wouldn't involve any roller coaster, the will be implemented in v2 next summer. As of now I don't have the technology to make running rides. And k0ng I apreciate the nice words I'll try not to ruin that. :)

You do realize most browsers don't support HTML5 ....
  • Casimir%s's Photo
Oh really? I think as long as you use Chrome, Opera, Safari or Firefox, you might be safe.

You do realize most browsers don't support HTML5 ....

And you realize that html5 isn't a finalized standard yet, right?
It's kinda hard to fully support something that isn't a complete standard. :p
As Casimir indicated, most browser will be doing fine, as they are already being upgraded to being able to make use of html5.

Just so everyone has an idea of html5 canvas compatability, try this link on your mobile device...
    http://lake-of-fire.webs.com/hell.html
If you have an iPhone, iPodTouch, or iPad it should work. I haven't tried android or blackberry, but it wouldn't suprise me if it would work. Pretty much the only things these devices don't support is background sound and keyboard strokes. Since Builder only consists mainly of clicking/tapping and visuals made of png images, just image, basically it's a watered down rct2 on your mobile device :).

When studio comes out, I might get it, so that means mac app compatability, iOS, android native, and (hopefully) PSP support. :)

I'm also doing research on how to get this game running in Html4 CSS, so that the browsers that don't support html5 it should work anyway.

    it keeps saying "loading"...

And by the way, why are you always naming your sites after hell?
  • RCTER2%s's Photo
    it keeps saying "loading"...
  • JoeZia%s's Photo
Even though it takes a while to load, just the fact its even loading shows your browser of choice is working. It wouldnt even load otherwise. Game maker HTML5 is still in beta, the loading speed should be much quicker as bugs are being fixed with the engine.

Edit. Builder for windows interface screenshots.

^select whether to start a new project, display the lisence and help file, or close the program.
    Posted Image
Open a project, import a transparent png or animated gif as your new object data. (must specify the elevation and clearance integers per import, then click to place where you want it)
    Posted Image
Save the project, Save as a different name or backup, and export a png of the entire map you created.

It works on Android (I'm using Dolphin as browser), but it takes ages to load. I do hope for you that those bug fixes fix the loading times, because if it already takes this long to load a rotating plane with an animated gif on it, I wouldn't want to imagine the loading times of anything even remotely close to rct.

Is Gamemaker even powerful enough to make this kind of game? I remember that I used it years ago and that it didn't offer that much possibilities. While I understand (and do hope) that it may have changed in all those years, none of the examples presented on their site are really big games. Do you know Unity 3D? It's a more extensive game engine which supports all the platforms that Gamemaker does.

I also can't quite see how you would convert your game to html4 and css...
  • JoeZia%s's Photo
Yes I have heard about unity3d however, it may be a whole lot better than game maker(gm), I already spent all this past year on GameMaker coding, and just about spent my wallet to buy gm and gmhtml5. So sadly but surely game maker it is. Haha. It's a shame I didn't know about unity sooner.

I also can't quite see how you would convert your game to html4 and css...

About this, all that can be done in the canvas can be done in the div tags using CSS. Though it will not support sound, video, or any color manipulation. Other than that it's good to go :D
Note I'm still doing research on this and a friend over at the game maker community (gmc) has been nice enough to give me an example script on how to do this. :)

Here's his response over at the GMC (it's not very comprehensive imo)

    UPDATE
Builder has reached its teaser edition. Check it out:

I looked all over is there a rule or something about bumping? like "you cant bump until 48 hours passed"

Anyway, this product is taking new heights. I've come to realize that if it was made in 3D there would be a lot less drawing involved which makes things easier for me. in about a week I'll share some screens and hopefully an actual demo. Just letting guys know the project ins't dead. :)
  • RCTER2%s's Photo
I love your idea, but I prefer a more easy object maker for rct series which can make rct more easy to have some new elements instead of a totally new "game".
