General Chat / Anyone out there own/used to own a PWC?

I may be the only, or amoung the only here to live on a lake (or other large body of water), but maybe not.

Anyway, I am looking towards buying a PWC (Personal Water Craft, Jet Ski, whatever you want to call them) and was wondering if it is worth the extra amount of money for a four stroke machine. I am currently looking at a used Kawasaki 900 (three stroke), a two seater Sea Doo GSX Bombadier (two stroke), or a three seater Sea Doo GSX Bombadier (four stroke).

I know the advantages of a four stroke are evident, but they cost a hell of a lot more money (esspecially considering they only come in three seaters now-a-days). Anyone know if it is worth the extra sum of money?

Also, I know the Sea Doo series gives a wonderful ride, but have also heard that they are quite high maintenence, unlike the (supposedly) tougher Kawasaki series. Anyone know anything about this?

Pardon my ignorance....but what the hell's a three stroke? :huey:

not to dissapoint you, but Bombadier is considering stopping the production of its snowmobiles and jet skis. They are having major money troubles.

Sircursealot- in PWC terminalogy a "stroke" is a gear. Or whatever. Basicly its a V3 (as opposed to the common V4's and V6's in cars).

Nate- I hadnt heard that. It also surprises me considering Bombadier/Sea Doo is the most popular PWC manufacturer on the planet. If they are having money troubles, by principle wouldnt companies like Kawasaki, Polaris, and Yamaha be in a much worse state?

If this is true, it most likely wont affect my ability to still purchase a GSX. They will still be on the market (hopefully).

Oh, you mean a 3 cylinder. I thought you were talking about engine cycles... :t2:

well, like i said, they were considering it. Bombadier just got a huge contract to build 1,700 new trains and refurbish 450 more for the london underground.

Bombadier makes trains? What DONT they make?

Yeah, i think its their primary industry. They make trains for all over the world, including Vancouvers rapid Transit system (subway)

They also make(maybe made, not sure) planes.

From short term experience if you want a clean smooth ride go with Sea Doo if you want a choppy rough ride go with Kawaski.
  • sircursealot%s's Photo
^^ yeah, they were showcasing their new train here in Toronto. :)

I always knew Bombardier as the snowcat/groomer company until the Las Vegas Monorail project came about.
