RCT Discussion / Trackless

RRP, i followed your instructions in "the big guide" and it didn't work. Maybe i didn't understand them, maybe they were wrong either way, didn't work. Can you (or anyone) try giving the instructions again? Thanx.

Since you referred to Sandstorm Rally I'll take a shot at explaining how I did it. I'm not shy about sharing hacks with people cause I get plenty of ideas from everyone else. Here's what I did though you could probably cut out a few steps to simplify the process.

Step 1] Plan out the terrain and the ride layout. I generally design landscaping and ride layouts at the same time so I built the tracks as if they were a normal coaster first until I was happy with the layout. If you want to be more efficient you can skip this step cause you'll have to rebuild the tracks.

Step 2] Delete the track and raise every tile of land the track touches one level higher than you want it to be. You're going to be building all of the track underground so leave room for turns.

Step 3] Activate Special Build Mode

Step 4] Rebuild your coaster tracks again tunneling them through the now raised land (the coaster track should now be two spaces below the surface since that's the requirement to build underground). Use Build Through whenever you want the track to cross over itself and whatever else you need to complete the track as you want it.

Step 5] Once the coaster layout is done select 'build through' and lower all of the land over the coaster track one square back to the regular height. The track will now be one level underground. (Note: The way build through works, land will pass through track if the track is originally built underground but not if it is built above ground. That's why I do it this way.)

Step 6] The track is done so now you need to get those trains floating above the track. To do this you replace the coaster station with either (I) a raft ride station or (II) an inverted coaster station. Merge the track from both ends and scroll through the peices to make sure it's a complete circuit. Inverted coaster stations will make the trains run a little higher which allows the trains to ride over walkways without glitching.

Step 7] Go to the coaster options and change the trains on the station to whatever trains you want. Then set them to powered launch mode and set the speed. Remember if the trains are 1 or 2 cars you have to set the speed much higher than you actually want it.

Step 8] Restore all clearances. You'll want to test the ride before you end special build mode most likely but to keep your files safe, always end special build mode before you save the game.

That's it. Test the station ride. The track itself doesn't do anything so the station building is how you run the ride and check the stats. Other details like the bone arches are simply inverted coaster track built through the regular coaster track. I found out with sandstrom rally that boosters don't work so that's why the thing launches so fast, otherwise it wouldn't make it all the way around. Let me know if that works for you.

EDIT: Yeah I forgot to mention that. I try to avoid the Zero All Clearances feature with full parks because I'm afraid I'll screw up something on the other side of the park inadvertantly and save before I realize it. If you want to use that though (and actually I've started using it more myself), it'll probably save you some time.

thanx. Just a quick question (i'll try this anyways) but, does zero all clearances work to or does it have to be build through. I prefer zero all clearances because its way more reliable.

Both work. Ed is just afraid of error trappers.

I am so glad you posted this. I will have to try it now. :bandit:

    Will it work with GoKarts?

And could you send me egypTopia, Ed?
The link on The List dosen't seem to be working.

    address is widemans@realnet.co.sz

You're right it doesn't appear to be working. I'll send it to you.

And yes it will work with Go Karts. It will work very well actually since Go Karts are self-powered no matter what track you put them on.
