RCT Discussion / Wacky Worlds and Time Twister are underrated... anyone agree?

I found an old restored WW scenario of mine and tweaked it around a bit with some of the in-game rides and scenery and decided that the expansions simply don't get the attention they deserve.

Everyone says that the scenery of the two expansion packs look horrible but I disagree. It's rather refreshing to look the sleek textures in comparison to the same grainy and dull textures on vanilla RCT2. The Tudor style and Georgian style WW tiles look awesome in the right context... as do the Russian and Asian structures. The TT mythology, prehistoric, and future themed objects also seem as if they could look good with fitting scenery; in other words, they have huge potential.

Just as important: There's also all the rides that have never been fully utilized. Instead of hacking a bunch of go-karts or coaster cars and half-convincingly calling them animals or jets or spacecraft, or whatever; the expansion packs contain many of the actual vehicles and animals. Because of their smaller scale, they don't suffer from the odd textures of the scenery and look just as good as the vanilla rides. Many of the mythology and future-themed vehicles look awesome... and I've been making good use of the WW Russian cars (which are significantly better looking than the original).

I think that while the expansion packs are disappointing to say the least, they are more than the shit people dismiss them as. They could potentially offer a new (and aesthetic if done under the right context) visual style and create all sorts of new possibilities for fantasy parks. So, to state the redundant... does anyone else agree that RCT2's expansion packs are underrated?

No. Just the fact alone that you need them to open other expansion pack parks sucks. Afaik you can do new rides/objects out of the expansion pack objects/rides, so you only need vanilla.

    No they look horrible.

The oriental ww roofs and walls look good but that's about it.

They're shit... the double decker Carousel was the only good thing in either expansion pack.

Have you guys ever actually utilized the scenery and rides or are you just saying that because it's been repeated a thousand times before?

Beejer's parks are an example of TT scenery done right and I'd imagine with modern hacking and a better library of custom scenery, WW and TT can look good.

    Maybe, but nobody saw it.

Almost everyone here has the expansions and has tried them. They are a waste of space. 90% of the textures are too glossy and plastic-y and shiny. They do not fit the aesthetic of the game at all. When you have to deal with an ObjData limit, I would rather have 10,000 custom objects which are designed to fit the aesthetic of the game and can be transferred with save files than any number of custom objects which look awful and can only be opened by other people with the expansions (which is almost no one because, as mentioned, no one likes them). If you want a particular object out of the expansions, odds are it has already been made into a custom object.

As games, I enjoyed playing through the scenarios.

As an NE'er, I hate them.

    Ruthless.

they're so good that we never made a vast expanse of custom scenery to replace how bad they are

Wacky Worlds is by far the better of the two. Interesting scenarios, nearly decent and usable scenery...

I've always wanted to make a park around the Great Wall scenario but no one would care. That scenery has been converted right?

All WW scenery has been de-WW'd.

Certain TT scenery has also been done, but not the whole lot I don't think.

I would care nin! I would care! Seriously though, there's a bajillion overdone vanilla scenarios, it'd be interesting seeing a WW one. Forget Long Love Loopy Landscapes... We Worship Wacky Worlds!

Time Twister still has a lot of interesting objects though... there were a few small pieces of Dark Age scenery that looked particularly nice. Really the only abysmal set in TT would be the Rock n' Roll theme and even it had some useful vehicles... I still use the jet plane coaster cars. The foliage in both the expansion packs also aren't that bad... some fit with the textures.

Also the expansion pack shops are much, much better than the original.
