RCT Discussion / How does the submission system work

  • Version1%s's Photo

Just a quick question for the admins: Could you maybe explain, what steps have to be taken between the submission and release of a park here on NE? I don't want to critizise you for it taking a little time but it interests me how the whole system works.

When you add a park to the database you can select to have it reviewed by the accolade panel for a design or a spotlight.  From there it gets voted on and if it gets enough votes it will receive an accolade.

All submissions come up as 'jobs' for admins. An admin has to subscribe to a job to approve the submission. Approving consists of checking/verifying and economizing/repacking and reuploading the file, as well as 'object linking', which is pretty much registering the objects that are used on the map and uploading the custom objects. This object linking requires a bit more time and results in an empty objdata folder each time. We (me, at least) don't always do this, depending on how much pressure there is on the queue. During Micro Madness, I didn't even contemplate doing it (50 submissions in a day x 15 minutes? Fuck off). RCTWW and TT require a bit more time too, because not everyone always has access to the expansions. I don't have it on my laptop, which I use mostly. After the approval, the submission agains pops up as a job for admins and map makers, who then have to subscribe and upload a map. Zoomed in aerials can also be very time consuming. This is why sometimes lower quality parks get released quicker, they don't need a zoomed in aerial. Releasing an unfinished scenario park can be done in five minutes, while a park like Starpointe can take hours. Right now, csw's park seems like a challenge. :p Hope this helps a bit.

Just one more question: What's with that subscribing to approve the park and instant unsubscribing? Had that on my last 2 submissions.

I usually subscribe to new submissions to check out what it is (we can only see all the info beyond the name when we're subscribed), either for practical purposes or simply curiousity. So that may be it.

You admins should use OpenRct2 to do aerials, just crop in new screens to cover up any issue with hacks. It probably would cut the time required by like 80%.
  • Liampie%s's Photo
Oh yeah, good point. I still have to try that.
  • inthemanual%s's Photo
Gee and I have both done that on a few maps already.

I wish had seen this post earlier, I've been trying to submit a park for the past couple of days but because it didn't show up I deleted it thinking I had made a mistake, I did'nt realise you had to go through all those processes before releasing it.

I shall upload it again and take this opportunity to appologise if I caused the admins to carry out any lost work.

Speaking of aerials I just want to apologize for being such an unimaginable lazy fuck. That's all. lol

Would it be helpful to the release team to include a OpenRct2 full scale screenshot in our submission to be used as the aerial, atleast for those of us who are able to? Sure someone would still need to edit the screenshot for use on the park page but it might save the mods time and reduce the possibility of the aerial angle not being to the builders liking.

    I think it's working well ;)

G Force, it's only useful if the background is transparant already.
