RCT Discussion / how do people actually finish parks?

  • Xeccah%s's Photo

no i'm not joking. as bga is released i can't see how someone can dedicate years to a single rct project and not be burnt out 25% of the way through and quit it completely.

Only work on it when you feel like it. Don't be afraid of not touching a park for a few months. It's not a job. So in the same vein, don't set deadlines for yourself, except for maybe at the very end when there's only dirty jobs left like gap filling and hacking. Try to enjoy the process.

Enjoy building it.  This means you shouldn't be worried about the score or accolade, just for self satisfaction and enjoyment.

    Do collabs with yours truly.

But actually, team building is clutch I learned from H2H.  For parks you're working on by yourself, I think a combo of dedication and giving yourself time to relax works wonders.

Hacking is NOT a dirty job!

I'm finding what Liam says to work best. I started my Animal Kingdom park in the summer of 2014, stopped working for a few months, then picked it up last year sometime and have kept working since (taking a break for h2h). I set false deadlines and it never helped, and I keep getting ideas to change things (for the better) and I'm pretty excited to do them. Taking a break from your park can do wonders.

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be much team building outside of H2H. Most releases are more than 70% built by 1 person.

Keep things interesting. Start on that big, one project, but when you feel the need to do something different, do someting else. Like I do at the moment. I'm currently building on Keverdal Kingdom, but I've already started on what I wanna do next because I had some brilliant ideas. And even besides that, I'm working on a duo park with Thirteen. Don't take too much on at the same time though, otherwise you'll never finish anything and only have multiple unfinished stuff lying around.

For the rest I can only agree with the rest.

Sometimes I like to take breaks (either from the game or from the park). Reddit contests are a nice diversion... And there are times you do need to force yourself to build when you don't feel like it. Not always, but usually once you get started you'll have an idea or build something you like and all of that inspiration comes back.

build 60% of park in a week or two
    stall for three [IRL] years
decide you are tired of seeing it unfinished and finally get around to doing all the heavy codex work

Well, if you have never finished anything, do a design and get it 100%. A park is just that a few times over. I like to combine a bunch of ideas into one park to keep myself into it. Go one area at a time. You might need to wait a while to do some areas, but you'll be excited when you finally get to them. That's pretty much it, just to avoid it getting old avoid taking on other projects. At most do one design and/or group park while working on a park. Working on more than 2-3 projects will likely mean you never get anything done.

That's not a been a problem to me, in fact, it's good to work on another area when you have writers block in the area where you're working. Sometimes it's good to alternate.
