Just listen to each track and give us your feedback, but before you post let me lay down some ground rules...

Ground Rules:DO tell whether or not you enjoyed the song-Were you feelin it?
DO tell gives us some constructive criticism-Why's this track wack?
DO tell how this song can be improved-How can I fix this joint up?
DO NOT judge the song based on the knowledge of the artist-I want the real opinion!
DO NOT disclose the artist's name or song title-Yeah, don't ruin it for my chicos!
DO NOT dismiss a song because of genre, just tell why you didn't like this perticular track

Vert, might you please answer some questions, for me:

    1. Who really wrote that stuff?

    2. Why did they write that stuff, and why did they want you to post it?

    3. What is in it for you, to make you want to post it?

    4. What is in it for us, to do what you want us to do what you (they) want us to do?

...answer these questions, and I might start answering yours.

I wrote it and it's just a discussion starter to see what you think of some up and coming artist. I've done this many times before, the only thing that's changed is the theme or style of music.

My job is at Super Stop-n-Shop over in Natick. I don't have any requirements or needs for doing some companies research. Also, to give some convincing, why would I be paid to do a research for three independent artist from three different sides of the country, which have been recently signed to three seperate labels, and with three different styles of music? If this were something like that, it would be all Destiny's Child or something and marketers most certainly wouldn't do their research at NE, no offernse guys. I just enjoy and study all genres of music and want to know if you guys think these guys got what it takes to make it big.

Ok, if you guys want some background info on me that may clear things up here, then here we go:-I've got a lot of Columbian blood in me and often speak Spanglish, despite being an African American

-I can be a goof-off sometimes, but I am considerably intelligent as I have partaken in John Hopkin's CTY Program.

-There are many sides to me, I'm very debative some times, I can also be serious and a know-it-all, I can be a lame madcap, and then I can be a coaster or music freak.

-My favortie artists are En Vouge, God Speed You Black Emperor!, DC Talk, and Four Play. As you can see, that's R&B, Indie, Rap/Rock, and Jazz. I don't have one style of interest.

Well, that's great to hear Vert. But honestly, it doesn't sound like something somebody on a message board would post. Nor does it really have any point, that I see.

Besides, these artists are not "up and comming". The production is too lo-fi, and the songwriting is nowhere near as consise as is needed to recieve any attention from anyone anywhere.

    Anywho...

As I said above, there doesn't seem any point in this exercise. So, um, whatever.

Good songwriting is not needed these days for sucess. You can build a career of of poor material, look at Maxwell. Artist #2 has already landed fame in America under a different title.

There is also not a valid point in the majority of topics in the basic chat. Nor is their an average joe for a poster on the world wide web. This is global, you'll find message board post on every topic under the sun. Society and the industry determine an artist's success, not down-grading critics. In terms of success, your disapproval leads to belief that they'll actually make it big.

Maxwell is fortunite enough to have a great a voice, body and some of the glossiest production around. Without that, he would never come close to being succesful.

The three songs I heard could never be hits, not because I don't like them (and I never said I didn't) but rather because it just isn't what sells to radio.

It needs to be slick, glossy, to the point and with a great hook (well, a great hook for the first few singles, then you can slack off on that bit... look at Coldplay for a good example).

Or you need the first three, and a great, marketable, image with enough marketing power to put it out and sell to the masses (take a look at Avril, the aforementioned Maxwell, etc).

But as it stands, I can't see the artists. So judging by the music, if any of these songs were released to radio, they'd flop in a matter of seconds because they're not slick, glossy or 'to the point'.

    That is all...

I'm not even going to waste my time downloading them. They are, most likely, garbage.

The first one sounds like some kind of 90's shit.
    The second sounds like 80's.
    I dunno.
I did not listen to the third one, actually.
    Oh well.
  • Vert%s's Photo
So if track #2 is the first single for that artist then what is your verdict on him?
  • `sfkstyle%s's Photo
    I don't know.
Maybe he is going for retro appeal.
I doubt it goes anywhere, though.

Chaunce, of course the files are lo-fi. They have hi-fi clips, but those come with song title and artist name.
  • Vert%s's Photo
Despite this discussion not going as planned, I will post the results and hi-fi files.
