Me, I'm gonna go with The Who.

Songs like Baba o'Reilly and Wont get Fooled Again really changed things.

Plus, the first rock opera, tommy (which is awesome by the way).

They were inventive, yet kept their stuff musical, Really set the way for Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd.

In my life? Daft Punk. It's true!

If I just take the question at its most literal, then I say Daft Punk, because that applies to me.

Overall i'd take a stab at The Beatles.

For me, it's gotta be Zeppelin. They did so much for hard rock...

    It depends, really.

The Beatles laid the groundwork for rock'n'roll as we know it.

Led Zeppelin and The Who (both for me) brought hard rock to new heights.

Pink Floyd influenced Radiohead, and nobody else, in spite of all their greatness.

Nowadays, each and every group you hear on "alternative rock" radio (hah!) can be traced back to Nirvana. I know it's cliched, but it's true.

Run-DMC are probably the biggest influence on the rap side of things.

-For rap: I would say Ice T., N.W.A, Run DMC, and 2Pac Shakur

-R&B would easily be James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Babyface, and Stevie Wonder

-Neo-Soul's ground breakers would be the Force M.D.s, En Vouge, Lauryn Hill, & Mary J Blige.
