Ask the Experts / Hi, i have a few (newbie) questions...

Hi everyone,

First off since this is my first post i feel i should say i love this site, i used to think i was i was rather a dab hand at RCT Loopy Landscapes but never really had a yardstick as most sites sucked, after a long time out a friend has let me borrow RCT2 so i looked up sites for a little inspiration and damn this place is packed with it. Seriously really nice job by all the parkmakers, i even dug out LL to check out some of the stuff you guys got up to on that, good stuff.

Anyways, i think i kissed enough ass for now

Forgive me if these questions are too dumb to answer, i know this is "Ask the Experts" but i didn't see a newbie forum or anything so *shrugs*

1. Ok, i got the Son of Beast trainer as it seems it is an essential piece of kit, is there any other tools i should get for myself? I'm not interested in making custom scenery just yet but perhaps there are some really great custom scenery packs you could put forward as "essential downloads" ?

2. Is there really only 4 types of land edge now? What happened to the brick edge and stuff, i know there's the new walls that you make from scenery pieces but it's wierd they took things out from LL

3. This is kind of a specific thing but it's bugging me badly. I checked out RCTFan's site and saw this...

The roof pieces i've circled ... is that all custom stuff? Or WW stuff? Because i don't have any corner pieces for roofs and it sucks! Come to think of it i don't think i even have a red roof available at all. Any help appreciated on that one. Also, props to RCTFan, that park looks awesome =)

The scenery in question is custom scenery by ToonTowner if I'm not mistaken. There is usually some scenery pinned in the advertising district. You just gotta look around.

And yes, only 4 land textures were brought over to RCT2.

I really wanted to build a park that used no custom scenery but i don't believe it's possible after seeing what others have done with custom pieces *sigh* =)

Do i suck?

Got a couple of hours in this morning and this is all i could come up with... it's a... actually i have no idea... it's a doodle i guess. Sorry about the image quality, all i got on this comp is MS Paint

Its actually pretty nice, the roof angles work well together. In the future though try to vary color more, a two colored building can get a little dull.

But then again, a multicoloured building doesn't mean it's better because it easily looks varycoloured and ugly. (Yes, I like simplicity )

I think the screens are perfectly fine for a first try. The building is actually quite nice. I think my first buildings sucked compared to this. The trees also fit to the colours. Shows you got talent.
The more parks you do, the better you get. That's the rule. Don't expect too much of you from the start.
I hope to see new screenshots of your work soon.

Hey thanks for the kind words guys! PyroPenguin, i will definately take that on board... different colors/textures are definately good and Posix i guess i'll work on something tonight and get a screenshot up =)

Hey mate that is great for a first try very good in fact you should make some more its looking pretty cool.

Well, tonights efforts is probably be the most horrible, garish, clashing screenshot ever to be shown on NE... don't laugh, i know the colors are horrible !

fade2grey, ive found one of the best ways to get custom scenery is just to download loads of rct2 parks - any scenery they use you dont have will be put into your game automatically.

Edit: Dammit, my host is slow as hell at the moment so sorry about the load times on the pics =(

deonosrs, yeah that happened when i downloaded a couple of parks from here and i hated having so much crap in my menus i re-installed the whole game hehe =) I'm doing ok now, i got most the ToonTowner stuff (which i must say is really nice) and other few bits and bobs. I'm tring to find the vines that grow up walls if anyone knows where i can get them =)

Anyways, if anyone cares here's what i made tonight... a little more grand i think =)

Very very very very very and a lot more good for a start. I never did that well at the beginning.

I like the glass roofs.

Your last pic looks a bit empirical, if that's the right word. Make some balconys and stuff to make it look more down to earth. But very very cool!

nice stuff dude, only thing I can say is add windows, not to that building, it looks great without them, but don't forget them or leave them out entirely.
