For a long time I have wished for a resource for newcomers to our community that was accessible and covered the topics that were perhaps more important to the New Element crowd than other significant communities. This being such a nebulous and oft debated set of topics, I applied myself to learn more about the fundamentals of the game, the stuff that comes before all of the hacking, all of the technicalities of rollercoasters, all of the ultradetail of architecture. All this, to hopefully set newcomers to the community along a road of progress that can let them achieve their vision of building a park in the same way that a hacking tutorial helps them achieve their dream of a custom swinger ride.
That's why I started to create Fundamental Forest, a YouTube series for those wanting to take their first steps from scenario play over to the wide, wonderful world of Sandbox RCT. Fundamental forest uses no hacks, uses no custom objects, no fancy bells and whistles. It simply uses the skills a builder will have acquired from simple scenario play and applies that instead to creating a contemporary theme park to a realistic standard.
It is my hope that over the course of the series we can cover macro, foliage, ride design, building placement, and even more philosophical topics that help inform WHY we are building, such as considering realistic motivations for decision making.
I would be very grateful indeed if you could join me in welcoming any new members as you have done so often before. I would also thank you deeply for interacting with the video on Youtube - Likes and Comments go a long way to show YouTube that people are responding to the video and show it to even more people, increasing the likelihood that it will find new members for the community.
I am looking forward to enjoying this journey with you all, and hopefully persuading some new members to join our ranks.

This is a great idea and I can think of nobody better suited to tackle it. Was the file uploaded supposed to be the blank bench? I was under the impression it was supposed to be the progress in the video.
I agree with what posix said about video timestamps, as they would help it feel more evergreen and easily referenced.
My only thoughts are maybe a few more moments of instruction on how to use things like the hotkeys, CTRL/SHIFT/Z in particular, the picker tool, scenery clearing, landscaping vs painting brush. The path window and selecting different support types is a little nuanced too. I think for broad project management and keeping momentum you really nailed it.
Looking forward to the future episodes and especially ride design insights. Cowboy mining seemed to be what you had some ideas for and I'm interested in what you would do for the architecture in a spooky area.

MTC - thank you my friend!!
Gustav - community is all about debt to one another and paying it all forward
Milo - excellent suggestions - those things you mentioned very much sink into the background when you have been playing as long as you or i. it becomes as natural as breathing but would go long strides to helping others to improve. Maybe I should make a dedicated video for those things you suggested... lets make a list together:
-hotkeys, ctrl/shift/z etc
-scenery picker
-scenery clearing
-landscaping vs land painting
-the path menu
what other ones jump out to us that we can put in a short video?

I'll definitely add that to the list, Liam!

On the advice of Deurklink, here is a YouTube short I made from your ideas. Thanks to Milo and aytherX over on YouTube. This one covers shift, ctrl, z, and the scenery picker
one minute is a lot shorter than you think, and it takes a surprisingly long time to produce it! long form videos are so much easier

Just because we're practicing the fundamentals doesn't mean we can't make it fun! In this episode we continue to develop the entrance area and try our hand and creating some extremely cool racing wooden rollercoasters!
This episode launches with chapters, per feedback! if anyone wants to suggest chapters i would be more than willing to update them. as you can imagine, there is only so many times i can watch my own video and absorb the information.
as always, your likes and comments go a huge distance to helping our community connect with new members! the sense of community in the last episode's comments was amazing! and some big names dropped by too!

In this episode we tackle huge macro, cute gardens, consider kid coasters, and get real philosophical about all of the strategies that go into making something beautiful.
Thanks again for the amazing feedback so far, I'm so glad its being enjoyed by so many! As always, comments and likes are hugely influential in showing YouTube that they should be putting this video in front of new audiences, increasing the likelihood we snag more new members!
In this episode we get our hands dirty and create a beautiful garden area and begin our work on the kids area near the entrance! We also get very philosophical, talking a lot about symmetry and contrast, as well as how stories create our inspiration! Don't underestimate this stuff, guys!

Alright, I'll be the first test subject! I've posted some screenshots here. I'm very open to suggestions! I'm following along with the videos more or less. Haven't had much of a chance to incorporate all of the third video just yet, and I haven't done things like build an exit path or borders to the entrance. For context, I've beaten a bunch of (all?) the RCT1 scenarios before but have never seriously attempted this kind of sandbox park. I'm using the bench provided by SSSammy (do you prefer Sammy?). Also, I'm new here, so please let me know if I'm breaking any kind of forum etiquette! Thanks in advance for any help! -

As someone who doesn’t play the game much anymore, I am greatly enjoying this video series Sam. Great job all around, from the actual park to the clips you choose to keep, how you put them together, the way you talk through everything, on and on. Looking forward to each episode, and usually I just ignore something for a few months so I can binge it at 3 am, so props to you for breaking that mold. -

So great to see you over here!
Is anyone else having trouble seeing the link? It gives me a message saying “the requested page cannot be found”
But I have good news - NE is as much an archive as it is a forum. Because of this there are robust file upload options built in to the site. (We’ve lost a lot of community history because of 3rd party image sites disappearing)
If you hit “more reply options” when making a comment, you will see a file upload option on the right. Just hit select file, then pick something, then hit upload file, then the important part - hit add file to post.
If it’s an image it will appear embedded in the post! Let’s you be real fancy with your presentation -

Welcome! Promising start. Would be curious to see what you add to this park next. I have some overall suggestions.. but don't want to overburden you with them! If anything, add some more foliage/trees along your paths.

The big picture looks really cool, great work! I love how it is a consistent style, really makes it feel like a cohesive area. I think you’ve really grasped some of the main messages I was trying to communicate like good sight lines and focal points. The queue entrance under the woodie turnaround is awesome -

I too have some things I'd comment about, but like Otter I'll let you cook for the moment! Also, foliage would be the first thing to adress, but then again, SSSammy hasn't really talked about that in-depth yet on his series.
