Through The Ages - General Topic

    Logo by J K

Welcome to THROUGH THE AGES, a journey across some of the most exciting eras of human history! This new contest plays on a familiar format, allowing you to travel through time to periods you may be familiar with, or uncover new knowledge about these distant ages with a new era for each round.
    Contest Format

The contest is formatted into six successive qualifying rounds and a Grand Final. Each qualifying round will transport you to a different time period, requiring you to theme your entry to that particular era, with a couple of other objectives to meet along the way. Winning a qualifying round will grant you entry to the Grand Final, where you compete to become the CHAMPION OF AGES.

Each round's theme will be revealed in due course, and while the majority of rounds will follow the same size limit, the sixth and final qualifying round will be a Micro round - a last mad dash to make it into the Grand Final! The entries for each round will be judged by a community poll where you can earn points for how well you met the Objectives as well as for the Quality of the map.

    Rules Of Time Travel

Please note that failure to follow any of the following rules will result in the respective park or player being penalised or disqualified.

      Construction
    1. For a given round you may build alone or as part of a duo.

    2. If you play and qualify for the championship as a duo, you will have to participate in the Grand Final as the same duo.

    3. If you qualify for the championship with a solo entry, you are allowed to invite another player to build the championship map as a duo.

    4. If you qualified as a duo, but one half of the duo is unavailable or unwilling to build at this time, the previous rule applies.

    5. Unless states otherwise, your entry must be ≥ 2000 tiles and ≤ 5000 tiles in size, equivalent to 40x40 and ~70×70 square tiles.

    6. Anything outside the map that plays a visual feature (eg. a dragon flying, a train animation created via shoestring) will count towards the tile limit. Anything outside the limit that isn't visible, and only contributes to something visible inside, will not count.

    7. You may use any scenery objects you want. Using scenery from the expansions packs, or LL land textures as enabled by OpenRCT is allowed, but may appear differently for different people, so should be used at your own risk.

    8. Your creation must be adhere to the objectives as specified in the rules for the round you participate in. It is at the staff's discretion to reject an entry if your submission is deemed to be not in the spirit of the contest.

    9. There is no lower or upper limit on in how many rounds you can enter. If you win a round after you've already qualified for the championship in an earlier round, the runner-up will qualify instead.

    10. To allow everyone the same amount of time to build, recycling previously built material is not allowed, unless it's something as small as a partial layout, some loose building techniques or just half baked ideas.

    11. Submission
    12. Please submit your entry via a Private Message either on New Element or on Discord, including all Admins as recipients.

    13. Please include any additional content such as logos or plugins with the initial zip download.

    14. Custom music, if it is to be included via .PARKOBJ, is considered map content, and must therefore be part of the .PARK before the deadline. Any music that is not direct map content, and merely intended to be played in the background while viewing the park, for example links to online music sources, or included audio files like MP3 are considered extra materials.

    15. The maximum file size of submissions (including extra materials) cannot exceed 30 MB. If a submission exceeds this size, the admins may sometimes try to help you bring it down, for example by improving image compression in attached PDFs, or by enhancing audio compression or shortening custom music in PARKOBJ. In this latter case, only the admins are allowed to re-export the .PARK file with the edited music.

Love the symmetry between WW/TT and grand tour/Through the Ages! Great work admins! Very exciting!

I think GT always provoked the question 'What if we did a space round' so we created a whole contest to explore those type of briefs using the GT formula we know and love. There's been some great comments so far on what we've been cooking up, kinda an original contest / kinda not. It co-exists with GT but will hopefully stand true on its own.

Thanks to everyone for the great energy so far.
