Music Forum / Album Review

It's not too often (never, so far) that I do any osrt of music review, but the time has come.

I have always been a hardcore Barenaked Ladies fan, ever since i bought their first CD "Gordon"

they followed up with "Maybe You Should Drive," "Shoebox EP," "Rock Spectacle," "Stunt," "Maroon," and a greatest hits compilation including two great new songs "Disc One," and now their newest work "Everything to Everyone."

My first thought on this Cd was disappointment, It seems they have sold out to pop culture.

I first heard the song "Another Postcard" on the radio, the lyrics were hilarious, but the beat was different, very synthesized, very pop, not good. I liked it, but I hated myself for it, because I knew the only reason I liked it was because of who it was by.

    Tracks

Celebrity: A rather flowing song about what seems to be a loser dreaming of a life as a celebrity, I like this track, one of my favorites from the album.

Maybe Katie: A song about a guy who loves a girl none of his friends like "What's so "maybe" about Katie?", Its alright, not a favorite of mine. Though there is an acoustic version bonus track which is much better.

Another Postcard: Genius lyrics, somewhat reggae influenced beat, charming song, but very poppy
again, it has an acoustic version which is better.

Next Time: A good slow song, alot of half tones, and an orchestral feel to the music, good track.

For You: Another one I hate myself for liking, haunting song, but it almost country music, and they being my least favorite genre, docks it, but its still a good song, and it pisses me off.

Shopping: AGHCK! HORRIBLE! no words to describe its horror

Testing 1,2,3: I wasn;t impressed, but I was by no means disappointed and i have a feeling its gonna grow on me

Upside Down: I LOVE the musical part, it like....tango, which is awesome, but the singing doesnt follow suit.

War on Drugs: A very haunting and depressing song, well written and well played, good show on this one.

Aluminum: Great track, one of my favorites on the album, it makes a genius comparison of a girl to aluminum. listen and see wtf im talking about.

Unfinished: Another great track, but nothing too impressive in comparison to their past works.

Second Best: top 3 songs on the album for sure, and the acoustic version is even better

Take it Outside: Best song on the album, musical genius.

Have You Seen My Love?: A rather slow song that doesn't change much through the song, but its well written.

    Overall, 7.5 out of 10

BnL is still a great band, but their old stuff was much better.

Sorry its not more in depth review, I just listened to the Cd for the first time.

It is pop for most of the cd to be sure, which is not a good thing by any means (they used to a rock band, and they are very gradually converting to pop) but a far as pop goes, its a good CD.
(Their authentic in an age of manufactured bands)

No, they were always a pop band and never a very good one...

No, they were always a pop band and never a very good one...

that was when pop stood for popular, and music was popular because it was good

My sister's a really big Barenaked Ladies Fan. Maybe I should get her this album for Christmas...

I like Gordon a lot. I think it's more fun than their later albums, but Stunt has some great songs on (Alcolhol).
