Theres always polls and shit in magazines about "the greatest guitarists" etc. what about bassists?
For me it'd have to be: Fat Make (NoFX), Flea (RHCP), Jason Newstead (Ozzy) and Rob Trulijano (Metallica).
Im pretty new to bass so Id like to see who you guys class as masters of the bass. -

You can't forget about Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy... Although he's been dead for a while now. -

Les Claypool is easily the best bassist there is. Everyone else is three levels below. -

oh and the bassist from muse. he's really good, but i'm not sure what he's called... that bass riff in hysteria is pretty incredible. not that i play bass or anything, i play electric. -

Jaco Pastorius is technically, musically and creatively superior bass player and composer than every other bassist. Its a shame he's dead.
Marcus Miller is the slap-daddy, anything Flea and Les can do, he can go one step further.
Les is awesome but his intonation and technique is somewhat sloppy, however it does add to his sound and "crazy" appeal.
Victor Wooten of the Flecktones is exremely competent and probably the best around the moment IMO. He can slap, tap and do pretty much everything on a bass unlike Flea or Les.
