Interview With John

To start, I am posting this here because the RCT Rumors and Ramblings forum was removed.

Anyway, to the interview...

Critic: If you were to move, where would you move to?
John: Hong Kong!
Critic: Haha, and why would you move to Hong Kong?
John: Because it seems cool.
Critic: Don't forget Disneyland Hong Kong, too.. If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go?
John: probably to madrid.
Critic: I've heard Madrid is beautiful... Do you enjoy living at the current place you do?
John: no, Omaha is a pretty boring place.
Critic: How do you manage to deal with living in just about the only large city for about (give or take), 2-300 miles?
John: i have no choice. ;)
Critic: Haha, that makes sense.. How do you get prepared to work on a Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 project?
John: it just... happens, i think. nothing too specific, unless i have an idea of what i want to accomplish.
Critic: And when you have an idea of what you want to accomplish, what steps do you take to build that idea?
John: i usually draw inspiration from real life stuff or look at other parks, and i expand on things like that.
John: and now i'm in to layout out the park before building.
Critic: I see..
Critic: After laying out the park with paths, what is the next step you do to proceed building in it?
John: i usually build something at random with the theme i want, and draw from that building for further inspiration for the rest of the area.
Critic: Sounds good.. When will you manage to finish your third release?
John: i would say September-October whereabouts. could be later or sooner though.
Critic: Sounds good, I'm sure everyone will be anxiously awaiting that.. Who would you say are your biggest RCT influences?
John: hmmm... probably corkscrewed, meretrix, foozy, x-sector and a slew of others. but im not sure if they're "obvious" in my work or not.
Critic: In some of your past work, I could see a Foozycoaster influence, right after he set the bar for rct2 with his latest project. How would you say he's influenced you?
John: i think it was fairly obvious with my uber-detailed style that emerged last year. now i've scaled that back considerably, but it's still a part of my work.
Critic: Everyone seemed to like your "uber-detailed" work, what didn't you like about it that made you scale it back considerably?
John: probably the fact that A LOT of people started to follow suit after i jumped the bandwagon, and i began to realize all my stuff looked the same or very similiar.
Critic: I see.. I've noticed a lot of people have jumped onto that bandwagon in the past few months and it's becoming cliché, as you also stated. Who do you think are/is the only person(s) that can pull it off well?
John: well, obviously foozy. darkjanus is also quite good at it.
Critic: Who would you say is the most innovative parkmaker right now?
John: probably mantis. i haven't had the chance to even view WOMB in its entirety and i think he is a genius.
Critic: I must agree on that mantis is a genius.. Who would you say is the most active recognized parkmaker right now?
John: hmmm, that's hard to say, because there hasn't been alot released lately.
Critic: That's very true. Who is your favourite parkmaker, and do you draw any influences from he or she?
John: It's probably a tie between Corkscrewed and Meretrix. And I definitely am influenced by both of their works.
John: Meretrix's Tilted Acres is an amazing park, and Corky's Disney Spain is incredible as well.
Critic:They're both definitely two of the better parkmakers out there, and I must agree with you in that Tilted Acres and DisneySea Spain are both incredible parks. Upon knowing of ToonTowner's departure, what were your thoughts of it?
John: I thought it was a loss to the entire community - his objects have been an incredibly large part of RCT2 and are everywhere. He was also a very cool member of NE.
Critic: Toon was definitely one of the people that helped save RCT2 from being less of a game than was expected, and he was one of the more understanding members, too. What do you think of custom scenery and what it's done for the game in general?
John: I think it's been a saving grace for RCT2, which was released to mixed reactions across the community. It's also hindered it abit in the sense that there's just too much to choose from and not enough freedom in the game.
Critic: In your view, would you say that custom scenery is too often misused in the game?
John: In some cases yes, but it's often the custom scenery that saves what would otherwise be a boring and dull park.
Critic: you say that it's sometimes difficult to play RCT2 because of all of the custom scenery available for RCT2?
John: I would say for myself that it isn't - I just use that amazing bench Toon made for the Pro Tour now. ;)He definitely hooked us all up with the good stuff.
Critic: Would you say that custom scenery has too much of an influnce on RCT2?
John: Probably, but I see that as a good thing instead of a bad thing.
Critic: That's good.. Who would you say is your favourite up-and-comer?
John: I would say... turtleman, if you'd consider him an up-and-comer.
John: I'm also partial to slob's stuff.
Critic: Indeed, you could, even though he's been around longer than myself, I do believe. sloB you could call an up-and-comer, as I don't think he's been around for quite a year yet.. On an NE related note, what would you say the status of activity on the forums are?
John: I'd say activity-park-production-and-release wise it's kind of dead, but there's definitely activity there.
Critic: There have been numerous infamous events at NE, what would you say would be the two most affecting member-wise and your two most favourite?
John: hmmm
John: two most affecting member-wise: not totally sure. but my most favorite event, so far, has been the qualifying PT rounds
Critic: Ah, I see.. I'm sure you've also heard of thenumerous "pranks" pulled on various members, what are your thoughts on thesem and which was your favourite?
John: Yes, of course. I have to say that the RCT Savior one was quite a doosy. ;)
Critic: Oh, hush :p.. On a final note, do you have any current projects related to RCT2 other than Pro Tour, and if so, can we see a screenshot of it?
John: Well, if you've been living under a rock (or you're just plain retarded), I've had a screenshot of my latest in my signature for quite awhile.
John: i'll get an up to date picture soon..
Critic: That's good to know for those who didn't realize it before now, eh?
Critic: Thanks for the interview, John.
John: Definitely. ;) No problem.

Critic: How do you manage to deal with living in just about the only large city for about (give or take), 2-300 miles?

200-300 miles? Where are you getting your information? Lincoln(quarter of a million+ people), the state capital, is about 60 miles away from Omaha.
• sloB%s's Photo
I love how Critic answered all his questions too.
Anyways, nice read. Nothing that I didn't already know though ;)

Now, get back to that PT entry. ;)

What did happen to RCT Rumours & Ramblings? I liked that forum :(

I'm guessing Mr. Adix had somthing to do with it, though I could be wrong. ;)
• Kumba%s's Photo
Not bad, a lot more questions then mine have. I got more on the way, Bokti will be my next, how about you?
• mantis%s's Photo
^ i'm looking forward to reading that one. I think.
• Blitz%s's Photo
actually, i tipped off iris on it being missing the second i saw it gone, and he had no idea about it.
So, I think he talked to adix, who might have taken it down, and I guess he explained and they both thought the better of it for some obscure reason I am unsure of.

Either that or they are fixing the forums currently, and havent finished doing so yet.
• mantis%s's Photo
Well RCT Rumours got merged with Basic Chat, and H2H forums were merged with the Ad. District. It's all a bit confusing.
• Critic%s's Photo

Not bad, a lot more questions then mine have. I got more on the way, Bokti will be my next, how about you?

I'm not sure yet, you should IM me, and we could do some sort of joint project..
