RCT Discussion / Mala For Dummies

ride6, I'd much rather read about how you build your parks, instead of how you think other people build their parks. Trying to explain someone else's work never really works, because you don't know how they think.

amen.

Everyone is disagreeing with Posix.

Basically, before this erupts into a flame war, I'll qualify everything

you are really tough, you know...

You know, I'm generally a pretty easy going guy, and I typically joke around. But you know what, Posix? Get the fucking rod removed from your fucking ass and lighten the fuck up.

You're asking way too much of him.

i love you too.

and really, where would i have learned american sayings?

I'm done with the guide due to it's controversiality

Who gives a fuck if people don't agree with it? It's still a good read...I mean, you're not gonna start any wars or make people quit RCT just by writing something like that. *predicts next posts*

Lol @ controversiality

But anyways, who cares how other people build parks. If someone were to make a complete copy of a park, I wouldn't care. If that's how they enjoy the game, then who am I to stop them. No one should really care, other than the person they copied, maybe. It's really no one's business to question the way someone has fun with the game.

I'm done with the guide due to it's controversiality, however if you even need any help understanding something (n00bs, this means you!) for your parks when it comes to landscaping, treeing, theming or archetecture feel free to contact me at Jroot88@aol.com and I'll try to get back to you with a detailed analisis and explination.

I don't understand this shift from critiquing mala work to noob work. It may be a noble gesture but seems antithetical hence meaningless, given your treatment of a noob in another thread when your work was not readily accepted here.

The only thing controversial on this website might be the ritualistic notions of grandeur (self-sabotage) that inhibit constructive debate.

You're always right. Props on that.

Holy crap. Big word alert.

Catalyst- Thank you for both criticizing me and the whole of the war involved in the topic. You hit the nail on the head far harder than any of us probably could've. Other than Coaster Ed, maybe, but even he had a hard time cooling the tempers of the excitable.

I guess I'll start a new topic explaining my own "style" if there is such a thing. If this gets big enough (aka, enough people come out and start explaining elments of their work and/or doing tutorials) then we my have to add a "Style Basin" forum for it or something.

I don't know why people feel the need to explain their style... it might make for some interesting reading in some cases, but i'd rather keep how I build my parks secret...
• Dixi%s's Photo
An easier way to define your style would be to release a park.

Oh fuck off. Turtle already has an NE runner up and he had a RCPro Spotlight until they distroyed that feature. And I have two runner ups (Sunburst Shores and Waters of Civilization are both 100% mine), however if you want to define "your style" that is the best way to do it. However if you want to explain "your style" than that has to be done with words.

I don't think Diego was directing the comment at us ride6, merely generally.

I think he's right. You'll definitely get more people looking at and analysing your style through a park release than a bunch of words and pictures...

This is cool and all, but you chose bad examples of his treeing and landscaping. The landscaping pic is simply jagged rocks with different colors applied to one set to give a 'stand-out' feel to a portion of th rocks, and the treeing in that screen dont display his best treeing, as the clumps look ugly imo (he has better in Mountain Beach). For landscaping you should have also looked at Mountain Beach or Mount Sinister, Escalante does have some good portions as well (just not the one you showed).
• Mala%s's Photo
I don't usually respond to these kinds of criticisms but this is really starting to make me want to puke.
Let me once again explain this screen:
Posted Image

Refer to my earlier post for more clarification if this does not thoroughly explain my intent for this patch of landscaping. In the above screen we have:

1) Red-Orange spires perched on a steep cliffside. The sides are dirt because you cannot color them red-orange. I chose the angles I did to simulate the American Southwest sun beating down on them and creating shadows on their darksides. If this were Bryce Canyon these would have to be much taller but overpowered the landscape too much for Escalante so I chose a shorter height.

2)Eroded crevices and depressions at the base of the spires with sparse vegetation clinging for life in these lower patches.

3)A few lonely pines or spruce trees that managed to survive against all odds on a rocky, sandy cliffside.

4)Although I took artistic liberty to add a waterfall here, I chose to color the rocks around the falls in the darker rock texture to emulate some kind of erosion taking place due to the force of the water and the water itself sloughing off the top layer of strata and revealing a darker sub-strata but most of all giving a darker, water saturated look as there would surely be tons of spray and mist darkening the rocks color along the water's edge.

How is any of this random?

If you think it is ugly, or not my best work, well there is nothing I can do about that. I try different things that yield different results and create different emotions. I achieved what I wanted to here. If I decked it out with tons of trees shrubs and flowers, it would not be "realistic' to what inspired it in the first place.

I don't mean to repeat myself, I just feel like some of you are really not getting my intent. Oh well, you cannot please everyone, and that surely was not my intent here. You surely cannot expect me to start landscaping with some dreaded formula so that everything I do looks the same.

Thank you for listening to me vent.

Ahhh...
• Corkscrewed%s's Photo
Geez... we should rile Mala up more by totally misanalyzing his work! That way he'll post more!!!

:p

Like I said... Mala builds on a whole different (and almost astral) plane than basically everyone else, so you can't really sum up his works in a "guide." Nice try, of course, but it doesn't work for me or a lot of other people. You can't explain a lot of things that come from the heart. Mala's stuff can definitely be said to come from the heart (as well as the mind).
