RCT Discussion / The Thing i Hate most about RCT2.

Just to sketch the scenario, i was just totally in my thing again, building something in RCT2. It was going spectacularly well if i say so myself. I had a few things perfected, a nice thought out queu line pathed out, and the start of a beautiful station. As usual, you find yourself constantly from the game to your 8cars to zero the clearances etc, to get the look you crave. It takes hard work, and then the part where you see the famous error trapper when you click back to your game.. It's torture. And there's nothing harder than getting the inspiration to make something you've allready made before. Even though it shouldn't matter that much. I might have totally have been inspired for another 30 minutes, but rct2 decided to end it. Just like that.

I hear ya! It is annoying! I had to restart DisneySea at one point because of those stupid errors!
  • Turtleman%s's Photo
Ouch. That sucks. Didn't you save like multiple times?

Well Evil, I must agree with you that the error trapper has got be the worst downfall of RCT2 amoung the many. I've found the easiest way to steer clear of the infamous error trapper is by saving your game overly often, and even creating a new save game every 3-4 saves. And the save game becomes more important the instant you open a trainer, especially 8cars. A trainer has many more risks involved with screwing up your entire park, and it becomes more important to save new games more often. I've noticed that most error trappers originate while or after doing coaster hacks, so i just save at every critical part of building and theming a roller coaster and so far I've been error trapper free.

I consistently save to a new file every time I open up a trainer. But the problem is, that when you're in your groove and going guns, that's when you're least likely to stop and think about saving :(

I never get erorr trappers and I hack as much as anyone  one thing people should always do is save your game right befor you hack also I save my games like every 5 minitues, and save many versions, and if I can send versions to people.... yeah im so parinoid it aint even funny :twitch:

That's pretty much me as well. RCT 1 crashed a LOT more often on me than RCT 2, and I always save before I use a trainer, just in case. Fortunately, 8cars has been pretty stable about 99.9% of the time, as has my SoB trainer. :)

Yeah, the only time I get error trappers is with coaster hacks. So for someone like me who just screws around with coaster hacks to see what I can do, it kinda sucks.

I can't save much because saving takes 3-4 minutes, so instead I hack less, which is bad. An error trapper when building, though I almost never get them unless I attempt some hack I'm not sure of how to do, makes me waste 7-10 minutes of my life, or atleast my RCT time, opening the game again. Loading times suck more than error trappers.
In most games I play that has pretty much no loading times, I save every other minute or so.

If I would be thinking logically, I would have switched completely to LL a long time ago. Then I'd get more done, have more fun, and so forth. I keep building in RCT2 though.

    That's because you're a masochist.

the same exact thing happened in the park im building now. i lost about two weeks worth of work not because i didnt save, but because after the error happened, the file was corrupt and i couldnt open it anymore. now i save about every 10 minutes to two differant files (so if one gets corrupt, i can still use the other) and i also email myself the park every few days so i always have it updated in my inbox incase something happens with my harddrive.

Here's a hint: uncheck the export custom scenery tab. That cuts down on the save time A LOT. Then, at the very end, when you're done, recheck the export objects tab so that others can view it when you post your park/work.

With exported scenery (and the saving time needed) comes a huge file. W/o it, the file is almost as small as a RCT 1 file!

It's not so much about losing progress as it is about losing flow. If I'm building away at great pace and the game keeps crashing, it sucks the life and creative flow out of you. There are many things that piss me off about RCT2, but I still love the results I can get.

When you get error trappers, especially when you are having fun, you completely stop doing what you were working. They always happen at that perfect time when think you will never stop.

    THEN THEY SCREW YOU OVER!!!!!!!!!!!

I save my game every 5-10 minutes and when I quit playing, I save it twice; the normal saved game and a backup. That works for me. Also after every 'thing' i make, like a coaster or a building I immediately save before I do something else...
  • Madhollander%s's Photo
i save like every 15 minutes and make about 15 savedgames, when i saved all 15 i overwrite savedgame 1 and so on, but it's such a bitch that error trapper, it gets on my nerves when i download new savedgames with new custom scenery, it starts loading the scenery, loads the bar 3 blocks and give me a error trapper, i have to restart the game, and it agian goes into scenery checking wich can last up to 3 (!!!) minutes after wich it finally loads and i can view the park.
  • tijlovic%s's Photo
Already crashes after 3 blocks? Thats nice dude, I have to wait for 20 blocks.
  • rwadams%s's Photo
I don't understand why everyone gets error trappers all the time. The only problem I ever have is with zero clearance. Every now and then I get the land glitch when I restore clearances, but it's not that often.
When I load a park I have downloaded. I double click on the zip and then double click on the park file and load it straight from the zip. I never have a problem.

    Rog :)
