    OMG JKay won a Spotlight!!!!

Discuss this ridiculously crazy park here. :D
  • Evil WME%s's Photo
    Wow! Congrats Jkay.

Thanks for letting me guest star in this wonderful park! (It's becoming quite fashionable to win spotlights with WME coasters thanks to you, Artist, and trendsetting Kiri.)

One of the most fun parks ever made, surely. The duellers might have been a let down, but damn, do you see how they launch up? And all those little details are just all really really awesome. I'm writing this bit from memory, but i'm sure i'll find time to look at it again someday.

A well deserved spotlight, i'm so glad that you had fun building this. A truly impressive and immersive park.

    The ghost train is magnificent.
  • trav%s's Photo
    Wow.

    Best.Spotlight.Ever.

This beats all of the RoB, Isole Calabria and stuff by a mile imo.

I loved the way you hacked the Mine Train apperition thingie.
The entrance area was by far the best, the archy was amazing.
The duellers weren't bad, just had to restart them because they weren't in time.
    And a WME woody!

To be honest I didn't really got into this park... I personally like detail, but only if it makes sense and the problem is that this park is loaded with detail without it... The description on the download page is probabably true (you need to look longer to see stuff), but the problem is that there isn't a serene spot anywhere which should break the park up. The park is way too overcrowded that way. Ofcourse this is Jkay we're talking about, but I have to say I liked UH better than this.

Still the park isn't all bad ofcourse because there are also some details with sense like the ghost train. Also the fact that the amount of work he does and that he gets stuff finished tell something 'bout it. That's why the spotlight is deserved and that I'm going to congratulate you after a long series of work by you!

Sorry if it all sounds a bit negative, but I'm just being honest and this is just not my park since it feels a bit over the top.

I've looked around in detail. Its pretty good, just rising above that stupid 'invisible spotlight barrier' *curses*. It must have taken you a long time to complete, well some parts have extreme detail, when others were just nicely decorated 2x2 architecture. You are improving very quickly with your coaster making, but one thing i don't get is why don't you bank the curved drops!!!?? Due to this fact, the lateral G's on your coasters skyrocketed- sometimes leaving the stats in the red.
Tyandor had a point too, it was very squashed together and there were no real 'peaceful areas' like there is in nearly all theme parks. I know this is your style, but if you do make another solo- make it on a bigger map, and you will totally murder that spotlight barrier!

In my opinion, it rests somewhere in the middle of the best spotlights. Its quite good, and the effort shows (270 years?! youre a mad man!). What really grabbed my attention was the fact the park was totally peep accessible. Your paths seemed to be consistantly 3 spaces wide aswell, so i have no idea how you went about doing that. It was really fun to see the silly peeps walking around the park, on the rides and nearly killing themselves on that mine train coaster... Good memories. :)

    Great stuff Jam-Master-JKay.
Youre one of the few people who i am totally scared shitless of what you can produce in PT2. :p

    Congrats. Well deserved.

First the negatives (there are only 2):
This park was overcrowded, but I have seen real life parks which are just as overcrowded as this one (Hershey, anyone?)
    - I do not like coasters with high g's, which this park had in spades.

Now the positives(The ones that I noticed anyway):
    - I was impressed with the footbridge with the elevated railroad bridge built right into the middle (Georgetown Loop Train I think it was?).
    - The hack of the wooden coaster loop onto the minetrain was a great idea.
    - The hack of the water coaster boats going over the jumps was also a great idea.
    - The Wooden Wild Mine Ride right by the entrance was very well themed, going into and out of many mine shafts.
    - The racing Side Friction's I think are the best coasters in the park, because they were designed "responsibly", without throwing physics to the wind.
    - The carousel Structure was very nicely done, reminiscent of the classic carousels of old (IMO)
    - The station of Georgetown Loop was also impressive, for its use of symmetry without taking it too far.

...and there are many, many more, but I dont have the time to list them.

    Congrats JKay.

    sorry for using this word

but i think this park is perfect
  • Geoff%s's Photo
Congratulations Jkay on a fantastic spotlight!

You have truly impressed me, and wow-ed me by this park. Your skill has significantly improved from amazing, to legendary.

Every single tile here is filled with such originality, color and life that it's easy to tell how proficient you how are at this game. The haunted mines were perfect, and in my eyes could have won spotlight all by itself.

The guest spots were tastefully inserted and not plethoric at all. Evil's and Magnus' guest rides are fantastic - and I must say, despite it's name, Silver Dollar is the best ride in the park.

The entrance/victiorian area, is probably the most adorable and charming area I have ever seen in rct.

    Wonderful job Jkay, and congrats!!
  • cBass%s's Photo
Wow, what a fun park! I haven't even explored half of it. Some of the rides missed the mark, but that's hardly the point of this park. The mine train was especially fun to explore.

Also, whenever I see Fast Staff I get the Benny Hill theme stuck in my head.
  • Richie%s's Photo
Far from perfect, and although many people will agree it deserved spotlight, i felt SRU would have been more accurate. If the coaster layouts were better all round, then this would have been a much, much better park.

Congrats jkay, youve waited a while for this :birthday:

My jaw actually dropped when I pulled up NE this morning. :X :X

Never did I imagine that this park would get this much attention. Of course, its my largest, most complex park built to date and I expected it to be released in NE-fashion, but, honestly, Spotlight was a huge surprise. When I saw The Masterpiece got SRU, I was almost sure I'd get SRU too, because I feel X's park is very closely matched in terms of size and complexity. So in essence, Spotlight is just an added surprise to this and it's wonderful. Thanks for all the good words, cbass, X, jem, thirteen, trav, Geoff, WME. Ty/Richie, i knew this would't be your cup of tea :p, but thanks anyway guys. Posix made a tremendous rctmv that just blew me away. Phil I thank you dearly. Jem, artist, magnus, posix, WME, thanks for testing (jem especially there). Metro, great write up you gave me, post it here if you like. And of course, Thanks Iris & Cork (or any other secret NE critics who judged this) :p

Building this park was quite an undertaking. I've easily invested over 250 hours in its construction, research, planning and design. I feel like I acheived 80% of my original design plan, with the missed 10% consisting of poor coaster designs, 5% overcrowded-ness and 5% too fantasy and not realistic enough. The one thing I really wanted to focus on was the history of Colorado, which ended up being more work than I thought. Every single shop, ride and attraction in the park is based off of or named after a real place here in Colorado. The racing derby coasters are based of the ones that existed in the early 1900's when Elitch Gardens first open. I probably spent 20 hours or so just researching my home state, which was very interesting and just proves that RCT can be educational. I only allowed two guest spots. Magnus built "Oil Derrick" in Frontier Days (which I loved btw) and Evil WME's coaster is easily my favorite woodie in any park I've ever participated in. that coaster alone is legendary. Big thanks you two.

The next major challenge was making the park peep-friendly, which has always been a major dream/challenge of mine since I started making full-sized solos. To do this, I basically built the first half of the park, then at 50% or so, let peeps in and never let them out which forced me to build with them in it at all times catering to them as much as I could without destroying the park layout or overall beauty. I usually had less than 1000 in at any given time during later parts of construction. (Any more gets annoying imo :/). The toughest problem I encountered was peep-jams and path layouts. I won't reveal my secret on those, but if you really look deep enough at the park, you'll see how I did it. I easily spent 50+ hours just testing the peep-friendliness.

    Here's a little bonus thing.

    Rocky Mountain Mystique Scenerio Edition:

Using the peep-friendly park that came with the download, try to achieve the following goals:

By December year 245, you must have:
    1. Park Value >= $175,000
    2. Peeps in park >= 2000
    3. Have four continuous months with a positive balance sheet (no red)
    5. All loans paid

Send me a screenshot (email in my profile) and you will win something. :yup:

Thanks NE. I'm glad you didn't die. I love this place.

    PT TIME! :mantis:

Finally a spotlight for me to love rather than just respect. Ahhh. Though I didn't find it as deep and exporible as RoB, Escalante or Rift Valley, mainly thanks to somewhat weak coaster layouts, it's a haunting, joyful and relaxing expearence all around. You made the culture of one state look large and varied, like a Wisconsin made with more parkmaking and less map making. Still the coaster hold their own against most other parks thanks to Silver Dollar and the mine train with the evil while train from hell that catches up to, goes through (!!!) and passes the other train on nearly every run. Absolute genius. Amazing the first 5 times I saw it. The duelers aren't too bad either except that you didn't both putting unused stations between them to "bridge" the gap between the stations (a trick Blitz often brags of) and as such the guests will never get to ride them with the right timing other than by luck. Of course they're also cover in "cheater" brakes, aka, "the cheap way out", still not terrible though.

Though somewhat awkward at times your theming has hit new heights and stylistically you've finally ventured into new territory. The architecture throughout is often perfect or close to. All the bridges and the fact that the river actually makes it through the whole park, interacts with loads of rides AND isn't used as filler is simply wonderful. Oh and THANK YOU!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! For the peep'd version, it's just such a joy for me to watch a little verion of myself or anyone else I feel like, wandering around. It makes the park worth so many more hours of looking just because of the entertainment factor of it.

Much love for the best spotlight since City of Dreams and to Jkay for creating it and not beating it to death with Ads.

  • Ge-Ride%s's Photo
I didn't like it. The park was way too crammed. I didn't like the duelers very much. I mean both duelers, the B@Ms and the side friction ones. The theming is getting less cartoony, but it just wasn't very spectacular. It's themed after the Rocky Mountains. Sometimes the crammed feel works, but not when it's a huge park themed after the Rocky Mountains. Seriously, this park makes hershey park look barren. I don't think the name suits the park, either. You ought to call it "Rocky Mountain Madness". Mystique isn't the first word that comes to mind. I'd say, give it a super runner up. This park just isn't quite spotlight quality.
  • Magnus%s's Photo
Congrats JKay on winning spotlight with this park. Also didn't explore everything yet, even after testing the park.

I only allowed two guest spots.  Magnus built "Oil Derrick" in Frontier Days (which I loved btw) and Evil WME's coaster is easily my favorite woodie in any park I've ever participated in.  that coaster alone is legendary. Big thanks you two.

Thanks for the guestspot JKay. Was really fun to build something small in your park and it just took me one day. yes, cork. one day.
far away from JKay speed, but for me that's pretty fast.

Finally your park opened my eyes for something I haven't really understood yet, though phil told me like every day.
Every park is part of getting better and to come closer to a perfect park. And it's impossible to really start with a perfect park.
My standarts are way too high and that's the reason I can't finish parks.
Thanks for this mr. kandell (always burning).

    Congrats Jkay.

I knew you would get this im like in love with this park, so many ideas in there that i just loved. Shame i cant see the park again as im not on a computer with rct at the moment but when i get back i will be sure to look at this park a couple more times.

loved it jkay great job. 9/10
  • Metropole%s's Photo
I'll post the kinda reviewy thing that I sent Jkay a while back. It's not really relevant now obviously as it's already won spotlight, but probably was back in when I wrote it.

Awesome work dude! Definately your best work to date (that I have seen)

I'll do good points and bad points

    Good Points:

-The best thing about the park to me is the peep friendliness. It adds so much to the park atmosphere with peeps screaming on the coasters and bustling around the paths. Big props on that as I know how hard it is to pull of, but the peeps in the park really made this an absolute winner for me.
-Murphy Terror Train was an awesome ride. Loved the ghost train that went around. Perfectly executed, love it.
-Silver Dollar was the ride with the best layout in the park (as we have come to expect from the best woodie maker in rct!) and the theming around it was awesome. You only kept to the two colours, but it worked perfectly. Great stuff.
-The stunt show was excellent. Loved the jumping boats and jet skis and everything. Really really great job on that.
-Props on fitting in the old side friction coasters for a real touch of history
-The colours in general were expertly done. I loved how the areas really contrasted eachother (with one exception that I will go onto) yet it worked as each area turned to the next. A wonderful mix of colours which helped the realism.
-The general patience and time that has gone into this is superb with over 40 rides and all those shops and stalls. All named and enclosed and everything, really good job on getting all that done, i know it can be a chore, but it does add a lot to the park.
-The buildings and complexity of the structures around Comanch and Anasazi was absolutely immense. I don't know how you did that. It truly was awesome.
-The research that went into this is unbelievable with all rides having a meaning and relating to the area somehow. I haven't seen this kinda accuracy since Cbass' Wisconsin

The Bad (or not so good):

-The biggy for me here. Let's get this over with. Before you read it though, please keep in mind this doesn't mean i don't like the park, im more commenting on a claim rather than the actual park. You claim that the park is really realistic etc...but I think you remember saying Posix said it was totally fantasy...I have to agree with him....perhaps without the "totally part" Although the naming, the height limits and everything are really nice realistic touches, just looking at the park, it isn't realistic. In some cases, the land is too dramatic to be realistic and for a park to realistically think that they could build a coaster/ride there (despite this being set in the Rockies) Many buildings are perhaps overly big or elaborate for a theme park perhaps. The Murphy Terror Train, whilst being an absolutely awesome ride is not realistic with the whole ghost thing and all. In fact, the only coaster layouts I really found realistic were Silver Bullet and the Side Friction Racers. The Fuego layout was in no way realistic (you could probably have got away with the drop right after the station but some of the elements, the gaps between the inversions and the generally unflowingness of it wasn't b&m like at all) and neither did I find Comanch and Anasazi realistic (despite my enjoyment of the layouts) Another thing I didn't find realistic were the supports. You used those thick ones that are really too thick to be seen as supports for most the rides you used them on (b&m's in particular). With all that said, it takes nothing away from the park itself, because in honesty, I really really like it...but I do not believe it is realistic.
-Comanch and Anasazi were good layouts, but you didn't scyncronize (sp?) the stations so they never launched at the same time. I don't know if this is intentional or there is some reason behind this and if so, i would like to know it.
-I didn't like the fuego layout at all. I'm very picky when it comes to Inverts as I make them so much and I've been on quite a few. I liked the drop from the station with the lift at the end, but there was too long between some of the elements and the track wasn't smooth enough to be a b&m, and wasn't smooth enough for me to enjoy the coaster much.
-As I mentioned in the realism comments, the thick supports arent realistic. But not only that, I just generally disliked them. They looked kinda clumsy on the coasters you used them on and at some points detracted too much from the coaster itself. I see you used the "normal" custom supports in some places, I just can't understand why you didn't use them everywhere.
-You spelt the word "The" as "ehe" in the Peep version

-In some places I didn't like the landscaping which I have often found with your work. In particular around Comanch and Anasazi where there seems to be an overload of textures that detract from the coaster and architecture with awkward looking changes in land height. I believe landscaping is a very important part of parkmaking, but when like this, I don't think it should be the focus of an area in that your eyes immediatly look at it, where in this case it did. I can't really explain quite what I mean well enough...sorry.
-Lastly, I found two of the areas were too similar. Terror Town and Frontier days used very very similar colours schemes, and although one was supposed to be more spooky than the other, they gave off a too similar feel for me.

I hate to leave on a negative note. I truly really really enjoyed the park, moreso than any of your other work. There were some absolute strokes of genius in here (terror train!) and some great use of colours and so much to look at. Not to mention the highlight of the park to me, peeps! Loved them walking around, really added to the park.

I know I'm not corky or Iris...but I guess this is another close to the boundary with either a very high level Super Runner up or a lower level Spotlight for me. Please keep on making parks with your distinct and original style!

Well done on completing such a massive project with upmost detail. Great work

I have to read a 300 page book for english in a week, so I'm sorry if this has been said before. I really think the park would've been a hundred times better had you had a relaxing spot to escape the craziness; even if you took the music out of one or two of the areas the park woud've been so much better. Still though, its amazing to see how far you've come and all, and you do have a tremendous amount of talent, but all the secions seemed to have the same amount of "busy-ness" and the variation was a little lost.
  • Emergo%s's Photo
    Congratulations!! :D

Must admit that building so closely together as you do, is not my most favourable style, (somehow it just tires my eyes too much  ) but my respect for your skill in this style is really great, for you pull it off in a very mastery way.!! I find it an amazing achievement that amidst all this "business" you took the pain, the planning and obviously a lot of thought, to make the park even peepfriendly, something that many (most?) of the Spotlight-builders don't or cannot, even if they have ages of (path-)room left.

I've already been watching the park 3 times (to spare these eyes, not too long at a time), and it is a real adventure going through it and to explore all these many little corners and hidden small things in it, and I think I've only "seen" half of it yet! So thanks for all the fun it gives me.

Up till now the Stunt Show and the Terror Train are my favourites, but I am only halfway yet. Also love the many colours you used to the best. Love the peeps in it.

So, can only hope that if you have relaxed from this one, you'll start a next park! :birthday2:
