I always wanted to be my own boss and run my own business.

I do that. I opened my own Hair Salon back in March, taking over a failing business, turning it around and instantly making a profit.

I'm just about to finish up my degree in Architecture, not that I will ever use it, but now the goal is to own more businesses in a variety of industries.

I just want to own everything I've ever dreamed of opening, perhaps one day I'll own my own amusement park :p

I've worked desk jobs for years. I was in the publishing industry for a few years, which was cool, but a lot of those jobs are cut throat or too intense for me at this point in my life. I'm kind of between jobs now, but I'm sure I'll be up at another desk job.

I honestly don't know what my dream job would be. Yes, I wanted to be an architect when I was younger, but I'm not pursuing that now lol. I've always wanted to publish a novel, but now I'm lazy... I guess my dream is to put something creative out into the world with my stamp on it.

Man where to start. Dream job has changed so much throughout the years. Well first as a kid I wanted to be a train driver. Engineer? I actually don't know the right word, obviously I didn't make a lot of effort pursuing it haha! At age 10 my older brother and I got into a small concert band (20 kids maybe): he choose alto saxophone and I choose percussion. We only were in it for 2.5 years. I played self taught afterward, just causally. My grandfather and both of his siblings were all drummers growing up (mid 50's swing era) and so he was very kind and got me a durmkit which kept me playing steady for about 10 years. Then apartment living quickly put an end to that once I hit college haha! The kit is currently at his house waiting for me to find a home where I can make noise. Anyway, point is I wanted to be a professional drummer. But then I realized eating and paying rent are important to me haha. Another dream job was film involvement of any kind that didn't require me to be on screen or lend my voice. Not having the means to move from Minnesota to LA quickly killed that one. Being involved in construction of any kind was another one. Like blasting or driving cool machines, paving, anything. When I was college age I had no interest in the future (cause reasons lol) so I just choose electrical engineering cause it sounded cool. And I sucked at it. So after taking some computer science classes I almost went that route. But switched to civil engineering after almost failing out of electrical.

Graduated and am working in civil engineering for a consulting firm. Funny thing is I'm actually witting code and maintaining databases cause civil engineers are stubborn and would rather spend hours doing menial tasks by hand cause "that's how we always did it" than actually improve. So I actually get to develop automation of some processes. Which is really cool cause I still regret not going into computer science, I love writing code. Also just started some staff augmentation at the dot, which is intense cause my old work still needs to be done. Also I get to do field work during the summers so that is still yet to come, I'll basically have 3 jobs haha. But I get to be outside and make overtime pay so that's nice.

So, dream job? I don't know, there's still too many options haha, gotta keep trying things to find out.

Also typed all this on my phone. Sorry for spelling mistakes and whatnot.

I've always wanted to pursue a job in engineering. Probably civil, transportation, structural, or mechanical engineer. Or of course, an architect.

At GDB you should help with the NE RCDB spreadsheet then lmao.

Gave up on the construction industry and moved to Mechanical Engineering. I'd really like to get into consumer product design or Aerospace/aviation. I have an internship set up next summer for a company that makes some plane parts, hoping I'll find it interesting.

The further into college I get, the more I just want to do everything. I want to own a business, hold patents, design things, construct buildings, teach skiing, fly planes, appraise houses, on and on and on. I wish I had 10 lifetimes to just learn and work in different areas. Maybe all the wanderlust will go away once I get out of college, but my real dream job is to do whatever the heck I want.

Filmmaker. I love movies but almost my whole life, there's been very few amazing movies that have come out, like there have been good ones but none that I think could ever be considered classics.

Right now I work at the Efteling (for those not knowing what that is, it's the largest themepark in the Netherlands and the 5th one in Europe). Currently going to school for a tourism study so I can grow more into the company. I really like to get a smile on peoples faces and to contribute to their wonderfull day out.

A few ways my dream job could go. I want to be my own boss. I am currently going three ways and doing well at each. Being a professional gambler would be pretty awesome. So far this year I have made a pretty nice net gain that tops the annual salary of min. wage jobs. I am also 17,000 words into a novel I intend to self-publish next year (might post the first chapter for you guys at some point). The most ambitious idea I have is for my own basketball rec. center. The ideas for it really feel like something out of one of my parks and so far the feedback I have got from experts has been mostly positive. I just need to get a business plan finished and then hope I can find the right people to invest in it.

The key for me is being my own boss and working when I want to. I have had 9 to 5 jobs before and did well at them, but I don't really want to bus tables, work in a salad shop or factory again.

^ Darren, I'm living in Miami now. Let me know if you ever want to meet up again. I work at the new Margaritaville Resort up in Hollywood, so let me know if you're in the area and I'll hook you up with some drinks / burgers.

Or if you want to embarrass yourself on the FlowRider :)
