^The mix of classic & modern architecture is justified by the theme, it's based on the anime "ichiban ushiro no daimaou" (which in turn is based on a novel series with the same name I think) and if you take a look at it you'll see that the architecture in it is much the same. I didn't try to recreate any actual buildings displayed in the anime but I think I captured the overall architectural idea well. Thanks for the vote BTW. Oh and I forgot to tell you J K, I don't know if my architecture deserves to be called reminiscent of 5dave's, but I appreciate that you did call it that as hell as you both are two of my absolute favourite players.

Well since I am new around here and this is the first time I have ever gotten the chance to see one of these competitions actually happen I thought it would be fun to join in and give my opinions on each entry. Since I have RCT-LL and can see all the contestants entries and really have no clue who most of you are I am completely voting and commenting on what what I see and not who it's made by. Not that it's ever an issue around here from what I've read in this topic and other topics, including accolades. ;)

Just my opinions, not meant to be anything other than that. :mantis:

    North West:

Best Inverted Rollercoaster:This should have been a easy coaster build for all entrants leaving plenty of time to add a great theme to each ride, inverted coasters in RCT are one of the simplest kinds of coasters to build and you really have to try to mess one up. With that said these were all very disappointing.

    STEVE vs DARK_HORSE
I liked the layout of STEVE's invert it was better than all 3 of the others and I could tell you were starting on a nice theme to it. DARK_HORSE's Bat Man-ish type of coaster had some odd transitions that could have been easily fixed and were not.

    LIAMPIE vs IN:CITIES
Both these coasters had a flat section of track in the cobra rolls an element that in real life NEVER has a flat section of track, I find it very annoying < completely a personal issue with me. IN:CITIES' was over the top but at least time was taken to get it decorated which was more than the other 3 managed to do. LIAMPIE had the better (more realistic) layout but was so baron. Since they were both not very good I had to choose the one that was more appealing to look look at.

Best Suspended Rollercoaster: Of all the coaster types in this competition this was the one I expected to be the hardest to do. While the coaster in the game is an easy build and is very forgiving when it comes to ratings making one look nice and smooth is a very hard to do. All 3 entries were amazing.

    BELGIANGUY vs SULAKKE
Sorry your competition never showed up, your coaster was very well done and if it were a 3 way race between you and the other 2 entries you would have won my vote. The atmosphere in your park (even without guests) was just superior to the others. On side note, really miss you over at TPR but with the way the MOD of that forums was always picking on your comments I can't blame you for not being around much these days.

    WHERES_WALTO vs FK+COASTERMIND
First I want to say I loved how alive and complete both these entries were. Both these coasters had great support with the surrounding that were put with them. It really came down to (for me at least) who had the better ride and I am sorry WHERES_WALTO but FK+COASTERMIND's was just a little better. I congratulate you both and I hope whoever wins you both realize your entries were wonderful!

    North East:

Best Corkscrew Rollercoaster: A rather difficult coaster to do right with it's limited track sections but one of my favorite kinds to build so I was looking at these with a lot of interest and was disappointed in all but one and it even had it's short comings < poking an early jab at the length of the trains with TURTLE's entry.

    TURTLE vs LOWENALDO
One one entry received in this match up was not a disappointment. The atmosphere of the area completed was outstanding and the coasters interactions with the water ride was perfect. I do think a full coaster train would have looked better than the short ones used but that's just another one of my opinions. In a competition with all 3, TURTLE kicks the other 2's butts.

    MAVERICK vs CASIMIR
These 2 entries were on just about the same level for me, both were OK but neither really pulled me in. The pacing was bad on both, to fast through the inversions or to slow. Both had jerky rides which is to be expected with type of coaster but even so they were a bit much to watch go trough their courses. Both looked unfinished in the scenery department. This one is really hard to judge... going to have to go with CASIMAR. Sorry MAVERICK, even though it had worse pacing than yours, CASIMAR's track layout was just better and his scenery is just a bit stronger than that of MAVERICK's.

Best Launched Rollercoaster: So many different ways to go with this, all could have went with the standard but none did and that is what made looking at these 3 entries so much fun. All 3 were just amazing to see.

    SSSAMMY vs JDP
SSSAMMY, that was just awesome to watch! The tracks course while very Maverick like was done so well and smoothly, there is just nothing to complain about in any way! The scenery in the area was done very nicely and station looked great. I really don't know how hard it is to make the entrance/exit disappear in RCT2, I haven't tried yet but I do know that when you have a strong entry like this one was it really isn't necessary to bother. Sorry your competition didn't show up but then again this would have been hard if not impossible to beat.

    DISNEYLANDIAN192 vs NIN
If I was going on pure looks of the 2 entries NIN would be the winner but I am not. It will be a factor but not the main one in this match up. Both coasters were great but neither came close to being as good as SSSAMMY's. < not a factor in my finial decision just wanted to put that in there. NIN's coaster while a good layout was short and smooth was to me at least boring while DISNEYLANDINA192's was smooth and had a strong layout to it. NIN's entry had that WOW factor from the scenery and not with the ride but DISNEYLANDIAN192's scenery wasn't bad either and it had the WOW factor with that amazing counter weight that launched the coaster. That alone was just the coolest thing I think I have ever seen done in RCT2. This one is close but since the competition is mostly about the best Launched Coaster and not scenery I have to go with DISNEYLANDIAN192. The coaster itself along with the atmosphere was just better in my opinion.

    South West:

Best Hyper/Giga Rollercoaster: Easily one of best coaster types in the game and so fun to play around with, so many choices to choose from and easy to build but like Suspended Coasters hard to make look good. Being the first parks I got to with regular RCT in them I had to dust off my copy and put it in for the first time in... honestly don't recall the last time I had RCT-LL in my computer.

    ][NTAMIN22 vs RCTCA
The ride on RCTCA's entry was perfect, while I did enjoy ][NTAMIN22's also it lacked the scenery to back it up that the other one had. Great support work on RCTCA's made it an easy choice also. The vertical drop on ][NTAMIN22's knocked it down another notch for me along with it not having any kind of support by it's surroundings. Overall they were both good entries but RCTCA really pulled it off, if I had to pick between the 4 versions of this ride type presented here his would have won it all.

    RIDE6 vs LOOPY
Both were good entries but RIDE6 pulled ahead with his version due to the layout of the coasters course. It just flowed so nicely compared to LOOPY's coaster. Have to ask here LOOPY, why did you choose to go with a vertical drop? Just my opinion but I thought it was unnecessary and took away from what a Hyper Coaster should be. Great support work with RIDE6's also and that giant wave off the coast on LOOPY's was very cool and I did like seeing the use of Corkscrew trains on the ride, reminded me of Phantom's Revenge at KennyWood.

Best Vertical Drop Rollercoaster: An other coaster that is so forgiving in RCT, you really have to do something weird to mess one of these up and non of the entries messed it up.

    SPLITVISION vs TOLSIMIR
WOW, this is a tough one! Seeing the 2 coasters battle it out in SPLITVISION's entry along with the great support work makes it a winner in view, but... seeing the realistic layout and also great support work in TOLSIMIR's makes it a winner also. When it comes down to it TOLSIMIR really pulled ahead with look of his entry. The theme was done so well and it just was a wonderful place to stay awhile and wonder around.

    DR DIRT vs K0NG
I really did enjoy seeing the layout for DR DIRT's coaster and the theme was coming along nicely. The station looked wonderful, however I hope for the next round you skip the hacking and focus on the ride and scenery. I could never get it run because the mechanic could not fix the ride. Disappointing. :(

    South East:

Best Flying Rollercoaster: Was disappointed in the fact there was no RCT2 represented in these but oh well. The RCT-LL versions were for the most part done very well. This is a fun coaster to build in both games, they are challenging to build and that's what makes seeing them so much fun. The Vecoma type flyer's are an especially challenging to keep in the flying position and to flow from flying to not flying.

    MILO vs WANTED
This match up provided some real entertainment. The Gliders from MILO were spectacular, something I have never seen before but yet they left me wanting more and more I got when I opened WANTED's. I was wondering if anyone would make a B&M type flyer since all the entries were RCT and not RCT2 and pop there it was and it was done very well. If I was going on just pure imagination I would have to go with MILO but I am not. I am going on what I enjoyed viewing the most and that was WANTED's. His had a great coaster and great scenery.

    JUSMITH vs AIRTIME
One last time, sorry you really didn't have anyone to go up against. I did like your version of a flyer and the station was perfect. The only complaint I have it that too much or the riders time was spent on their backs toward the end of the ride. Would have been almost unbearable in real life. Hope for the next round you get the landscape done also.

Best Stand-Up Rollercoaster: This NCS group was my most anticipated viewing, always love to see how people put together regular scenery items in new and interesting ways. While the 2 that had a finished look to them really didn't do anything special with it, it was still nice to see. Was looking forward to see who would choose not to use a B&M Stand-Up and as was also disappointed that only one brave sole gave it a shot.

    AUSTIN55 vs COMET
Both coasters ran very smooth but the unfinisedness of AUSTIN55's and it's visual similarity to the Grapevine track from RCT killed it. The B&M stand up coasters are a dime a dozen and it takes a lot to impress me when one is built. Just about any ToGo Stand-Up Coaster built will always win in my eyes just for the difficulty it is to make one let alone make one look as nice at the COMET made. Unfortunately for you AUSTINN55 by picking the easy coaster to build cost you this match up almost from the start. < my opinion only.

    TOP GUN vs NOKIA
I did enjoy the layout of the track on NOKIA's but the pacing was horrible combine that with the unfinished look of it's surrounding and TOP GUN's just killed it. The only part of the Stand-Up on TOP GUN's entry that failed was the awkward transition into the first inversion other than that it was the winner hands down.

*dmaxsba wonders why ICE has become the standard background for waterfalls? Looks like shit!, unless it's an ice theme park. When I see a water fall in real life (unless it's giant like Niagara Falls) I can see what's behind it and it sure isn't ice. I just don't get it. But once again just my opinion.

Not a really big deal though, as I don't think I would have won against BelgianGuy, really nice entry ;)

Kinda suprised that Tolsimir is beating Splitvision.
  • nin%s's Photo

wonders why ICE has become the standard background for waterfalls?

it's usually to resemble a larger amount of water pouring over, making it look "thicker". Rarely have I seen it work well without the ice imo.
  • FK+Coastermind%s's Photo
^^^ i think the #1 mistake however is using the turquios color with ice. You should change to the ice-color for the water and it will all blend together really well.

I was generally dissapointed with the outcome of round 1, but what was actually compelted was overall pretty good.

Can you post it anyway?, I would like to see it and pretty sure others would also regardless of if it would have won or not. That request goes out to anyone who was in but didn't make the deadline.

EDIT: forgot to ask, will this competition only be coasters, or are we going to see who can make the best log flume, mini golf or helicopter type attractions?

thanks everyone who liked my entry, I've put a lot of work into it and had a hard time building the coaster since I've never really tried a suspended coaster or at least never one that I was satisfied with, I'm happy to go through but just a little bummed that its by forfeit...

and thanks sulakke, I'd like to see yours soon though so we can compare...

Pity you couldn't get something in Lowenaldo, looking through your previous screens I think you could have really given me a match up!

I don't particularly mind people not getting an entry in, if there's a reason, or whatever. BUT. If you spend your time trash talking on the internet, about how you're going to win, and then don't send an entry in, you look like Captain Fucknuts.

I feel quite the opposite. The stuff I spend time on seems to be overlooked for the things I rushed (station&queue vs shops&restrooms)...

I'm just amazed my entry had as much positivity as it is. Nin, your entry rocked my entry's socks off, and I definitely felt yours was better. You definitely deserve to win, good luck next round!

^^^^well, Steve's was an utter disapointment, but i have a sneaky feeling he blew this round to work on round 2. Turtle's was good, but looked like an extension of Kakauna to me (and yes, i look at that park enough to notice) so i would say there are alot of other parks that shine through. mainly nin, BelgianGuy, Sammy.....The Big names need to kick it up

  • Turtle%s's Photo
Definitely! There's no way I could have beaten nin or BelgianGuy with this entry... but then this was only round 1. We'll see!
