I love walking on parallel bridges, its cool to look at one from the other. Also notice the design of the smoke puffs on that sign.

I love how x isn't afraid of doing the little extra work to get all those slanted fence hacks in there.

    What an awesome sign.

Stations that are visible though glass are so cool, and don't forget those fence hacks.

Tables right next to the coaster...

Entering the shop through tunnels must be cool, but not cooler than that footer.

Man, I'm runnin out of things to say here, but here's a walkway!

Here's my favorite one, the Wright bike and that sign supported by that slanted fence.

My first impression was a themometer. But I loved everything you pointed out.

Steve, I think that is one of those games that you see at the carnival. You know, when you hit the hammer and it hit's the top and the bell ring's? Look's kinda like it. :p

Phatage sums the park up well in his photo-posts....and this park actually impressed me the most out of any of the entries...I was borderline blown away, which is rare (Only UIX has done this, RoB came close)....the park is really ahead of its time, and the ideas in it are unprecedented. The coaster signs, little Disney detail, nobody has pulled it off as well as you have, and counting the number of Disney parks that have been made you should be really proud. The fact that some of the architecture wasn't my style, didnt appeal to me muc, and that the coasters themselves didnt really do it for me, the fact that I overlooked all of those because of the portions of genius in this park speaks volumes.

If you all want an example of "re-doing" another Disney park and pulling it off successfully, here is an example. Also, I thought I ranked this 2nd (IE i thought i gave it a 14 like Turtle???)....oh well, anyways very impressive.

After reviewing Phatage's posts, Kumba's post, and the park... AGAIN for the twentieth time:

Yea. I think, without seeing Phatage's park, this is the best park in the pt2, and the best park I have seen within the last year. 'Nuff said, love everything about this, Xcoaster. The more I look at it, the more I become fond of it. It's so inventive, and visually stunning. You've really surprised me Xcoaster. I think you have masterfully brought to life, an amusement park that I can only dream of.

    FANTASTICO!

    HandyAndyG-
Iceman got why I went with Air. It just seemed like the most logical progression of the previous two. I did seriously consider "DisneySky" though. It was the very close second choice. The other reason I didn't go with it was the entrance sign was the first thing I did, and I really didn't feel like messing with it, even though I kind of liked the sound of "DisneySky" as well.

    Phatage-
"Well technically speaking, he had space in this park which doesn't have any air, so OH NO!"
    Hey, be quiet!
...Yeah, you're right thought. This is another reason DisneySky makes more sense. However...

"Anyway, here it is, a whole lot of small details!

A nice little arboretum-ish area within the space area, very, very disney-ish as well."

HA! I provided for the possibility of some smart guy coming in here and being all "Space doesn't have any air, dummy!" Well, there are trees! On the moon! Haha! That's because they're slowly terraforming the moon, and some of Luna Base has a breathable atmosphere. That also helped explain why people are able to walk around outside there (besides that this part of the park isn't really on the moon). Originally I'd planned on trying to make all of Luna Base as realistic as possible by having it be enclosed, but the terraforming idea offered an easy escape from that planning nightmare. Also, about those trees, it didn't occur to me afterwards, but if you take them out, it makes this area feel a lot more open, even despite all those rockets. It also makes it so that you can see the rocket on it's side. I still sort of like the trees though. I'd definitely still use them if I had more room. I think if I solo'd this park, I'd make "Starry Skies" at least three times bigger, since there was still a lot more that could've been done. I sooo wanted to make a space station, like how Mir was used at Europa Park as queue cover for Euro Mir.

"This was a little hard to decipher at first, but upon closer inspection you can see the two stone figures holding up the emblem for the entrance to the ride. (although from that screen you can see that the queue line obviously isn't connected all the way to the entrance!)"
They're actually Laputian robots, though they're so old that they look like statues. They're so cool that I would've filled this section with them if I could make them more accurately, but they're so slender that I could never quite get their legs quiet right. Ah well, pretend the dark ride part of Laputa is filled with them or something in one scene. Oh, and I think I didn't connect the queue all the way, because I figured you'd have people wanting to take their picture with a robot leg.

^ I time traveled and took a picture of DisneySky when it's built ten years from now. No, just kidding, it's from the Ghibli Museum (which I meant to include something similar to in my design)

And the emblem is the Laputa emblem, just because I didn't feel like making a long sign for for the ride, but hoped instead that there would be enough recognition of the film in Japan that people would figure it out.

"The elevation of Condor Flats is shown to people outside the park; brilliant."
You'll notice it was in feet, since it's an American styled area. I'd considered putting something similar on the Hyperion hangar, but it would've been in meters (I just realized I probably misspelled "hangar" for all of my readme). Also, I don't know that I deserve that much credit for all the "Condor Flats" stuff, since I was basically just translating a lot of it from ideas that already exist at DCA. Though I don't remember if that's where I got the elevation idea from or not. I think they have it, but I may have actually decided to do it from a photo of the hangar I used as the basis for "The Rocketeer" station.

"I don't know why, but I love how that cloud is supported, it really contributes to the realism that this park exudes (except for the flying coaster's launch!) Its also a shame that you couldn't finish that ride there and the rest of the park."
Yeah, I topped Laputa's supports with little clouds. And don't be mean to "The Rocketeer." I'm still a firm believer that that launch could work if it was done much more gradually, as a sped up vertical lift hill. Of course, the trains would probably need more foot support too, to avoid unneeded pain.

"Supports for an indoor coaster in rct = commitment."
Eh, I figured someone might look inside for the moon and notice if I didn't do supports.

"This is underneath the entrance, I'm not sure what it is."
My copyrights. If you look at the top of any of the ride lists, they show up. I was bored. That's also why I organized the ride lists so that the rides are above the theming pieces. Boredom is how the hidden Mickey's happened too. BTW, has anyone spotted the really vague Hidden Mickey yet?

"Again, x's attention to detail and practicality is evident here, the transition between tracks is ingenious."
There actually should've been one more piece of track there so that it's not on a curve as it's going on. But I ran out of room since I had to keep pushing back the lifthill base.

    "Siren system."
Those were actually supposed to be lights. I went to Italy this past summer, and I was paying attention at the airports to stuff I could include. I noticed some striped overhead lights lined up like this at one of the airports we were at. I'd planned on including some service trucks and such too as food stands, but I didn't get around to it.

Anyways, great details posts. I think you got pretty much everything. The only other thing that I put in that I thought was cute and not so obvious was the little Hyperion crest on it's hangar. Oh, and the exciting unexpected discovery that riders make of native lunar vegetation (not the Verne mushrooms).

    Steve-
"My first impression was a themometer. But I loved everything you pointed out."
Yeah, it was a thermometer. The idea was that that was a little educational building about the weather and corresponding stuff. It was sort of a preview to the "Stormy Skies" area I'd thought about. So there was a thermometer (with the freezing, boiling, and current temperatures marked off), an uninteresting barometer, and a little thing showing what the weather would be like for the day (I was inspired by the thing in Rct). There were also little soapboxes for each of these displays so that you could have someone stand up and do an hourly talk about each of them. Also, the idea was that the weather predictions board would be changable each day, but I made the weather display thing so big that it would require a few people to do it.

    Kumba-
I assume the circles within the circle for the Colombiad was just for more of the cannon trim? And I'm not sure what one of the other circles was for, but I'll figure it out later. Anyways, I agree that that screen sums up most of my favorite things in my park.

    Everyone Else-
Thanks for the all comments again, everyone. I'm glad you like the park. And I promise I'll return the favor for the PT2 entrants by eventually commenting on the other PT2 parks. This is just such a busy time for me, so it might be a while. You won't mind the bumps, I hope.

I think I need to go to sleep soon. I am sooooo tired. WCS+SFMM thing = Le Tired... In short, I got 13 rides on Xcelerator, 8 on Silver Bullet, 13 on Ghostrider, and 18 on Goliath today (since X wasn't running for ERT, though they gave us a ride on it later), plus a few on the other usual rides, and about 6 cycles of the Screamin' Swing (freeness). Plus, I won a ton of stuff at the raffle. Good times. And the weather worked out pretty well, aside from being really cold (for California).

Hmm.... just wondering. What would you consider the central "weenie" of the park? The control tower? All Disney parks have a main weenie and I didn't really pick up on yours. Sorry if I missed it.

    View Post

Yeah, probably the control tower, mostly because it's in the middle of the hub. Aside from the stuff on top though, I admit it isn't very interesting. It could definitely be spruced up somehow. More vehicles on top would help (basically so that you have at least one for each section), but the structure itself could be far more interesting. I'll have to think about what could be done with that.

Anyways, I typically went with more of an emphasis on major weenies for each area (though "Starry Skies" sort of got the shaft there). Also, though the Laputa Castle was more of an area weenie, I could see it working as the park weenie, as I wanted it to be as visisble as possible once you got around the control tower. Plus, it provides a nice parallel to the DisneyLand/Magic Kingdom castles. Maybe in a redesign I could make it more central to the park.

Whenever I hear of a weenie in parkmaking, I can't help but imagine a giant hot dog in the middle of the park.
  • Highball%s's Photo
Well regardless of your weenie dilemma (), I thorougly enjoyed the park and loved many of your ideas. I hope to see some more Disney stuff from you in the future.

This sign display was pretty cool, I'm guessing its displaying which rides aren't open or something along those lines.

I already went over this, but I forget to mention that I actually do have some signs inside the terminal building that show the waits and such. I got the idea from a screen in the "Little Things" topic. X250's Masterpiece, I think. However, my wait times sign still includes some rides that didn't make it into the park.
