Park / The Genesis

First DarkJanus....now Magnus? All the inactive 'upcoming' parkmakers of the world have united to make the Pro Tour 2 one of the most unpredictable contests in history. Magnus has consistently intrigued me with his parkmaking, and after seeing "The Genesis", he only does so even more. I'm still not quite sure just how talented or creative he is. He seems to have an abundance in both, but I've been wrong before. With The Genesis, Magnus continues the trend of slightly confusing parks, as his entry mixes together a blend of religion, drugs, and science, and mixes them altogether to make either perfect sense or chaotic confusion, I'm just not sure which. The park is split into three sub-areas, the first being the drug-influenced Garden of Eden, where references like the "Stoned Swans" or "Coffee Pot" make sure the drug theme stays prevelant. The swans are pretty damn cool, but the coffee pots are sort of redundant and unnecessary. The main attraction here, "The Story of Adam and Eve" is a very unique mine train that's not really bad...nor exciting. Then there's the impressive labratory area, featuring the best ride in the park, "Cloud Nine Labs (God Ltd.)". Again, I'm not 100% on the theme nor the intent, but the labs came out pretty cool and the coaster was top notch. The third mini area was by far the worst, featuring only the "Journey to God" merged B&M Diver and minimal theming, dragging the park down a bit. Also dragging the park down a bit is the obvious influences by Ghost Cell Crisis. The fact that GCC was done not only first, but also done better really makes "The Genesis" lose almost all it's 'wow' appeal. Still, there's a lot to appreciate in this park, great touches everywhere, and Magnus' signature...if you can figure out just what it is.

Sorry, but I didn't like it for one bit..
It felt like a cheap GCC rip off, mixed with some of DJ's QFTBX in a way... I didn't care for the coasters, the idea was kinda original though, but it's not the way I enjoy RCT..

It's like it was only made for the 'wow' factor, and only made to place high..
The other thing I did like was the architecture like you posted in the screen topic, but overall it was a let-down for me and I liked DJ's far better.. Sorry..

It's fast becoming apparent that I had no idea what the hell I was doing when judging :(...oh well.

I wasn't very bothered by the similarity to Ghost Cell Crisis, because honestly, how else are you supposed to pull off the theme of something being created from nothing in space? Although very few have ever been built, I still think it's a bit silly to automatically associate and compare any park featuring stuff floating in space to GCC - some themes, such as this one, require that sort of layout. It's rather like comparing any park with massive landscaping to Mount Sinister. Areas and small parks are generally more commonly associated by their themes than by their landscaping arrangements, and I think this particular kind of park layout gets an unfair deal in that regard. Not to mention that in my opinion, the theme here was much more clearly presented than in GCC.

Kickass logo. Haven't viewed it yet, but looks waaaaaayy too inspired by GCC. Still though, I'm quite impressed by magnus's sudden increase of skill.

I thought it was, for the most part, great. the gcc influence is present because of the floating islands, but that's about where it stops. i loved all the clouds with the rain (i guess). But moving on to the areas, the only one i didn't like was the drugs area with the mine train. i think it was a little too "DRUGS!" for me, a little more subtlety would've helped the park greatly. I mean, the whole thing screams god and drugs. but the other two areas were cool, especially the one with the dueling 4-ds, those were so fun to watch. the dive machine was also great.

a very fun park to look at overall, and congrats on breaking the top ten, magnus.

Magnus's skill never increased. He just never really finished something complete. :p

Anyway, you know you're gonna get GGC references, especially from the overall view, but it's a bit different once you look at it. I will provide more comments when I've looked at it long enough.

    Great thing Mag...
I enjoyed it, though i think the 'park'... hmm, yeah isn't a park anymore.
But hell it was a lot of FUN!!!

I've really been dissapointed with the parks so far... none of them have been worthy of keeping at all. I know i'll prolly get flamed for that, but they're so boring, and this one looks like he was just trying waaaaaaaaay too hard to impress.

Here comes the "well if you don't like them, why didn't you try to get in this yourself" crap.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
List a park (or several) of comparable quality to what you were expecting or wanting. Just wondering if you're expectations were too high or if you're suggesting that the PT1 was better in terms of parks you would have or did want to keep.

I don't know GCC so I say it is very good :D .

if this is place 10 I can't wait to see evrything that will come :D .

    wow

I'm really happy this one is out finally. Don't care much about the place it made, because i didn't expect it to have any chance of making a good place. Now I can enjoy looking at the other parks being released.

readme will be out as soon as i have time to write it. just as a warning, it will be very looooooooooooooooong.

I actually really liked this park. DIdnt care much for the mine train but loved the other 2 coasters :). I loved the rainbow coming off the clouds and the whole way it seemd as if you made the park while drunk (the best way of making a park)...

    Congrats on a top 10 :)

    thank you Panic.
I was pretty sure most people would compare it to GCC, which is a great park. But if you want to compare it to another park one should compare it to cbass's spacestation. He made the black background tiles and it was his idea to have floating things in a park. And if you want to say I stole the clouds from another park it's defenatly not GCC, but that park by x-sector and splash-0 (sorry, but I still have to fulfill my promise to have a closer look at this park and not only the overview. But I look at park now, so that shouldn't be such a big problem.)
Anybody wanting to compare it to another park. We have had Blitz and darkjanus yet. What about Ed or someone. Would be great commendation.

Still I would say nothing in this park is stolen. It was a completly different concept and I came to the conclusion that this was the best was to realize it. Maybe that was a mistake, because it too quite a lot of the time to build this. (over 170 rct years) and this is just a bit over 50% of what I had in mind. The idea for this park was in my head for a long time. (maybe too long) I planed to do a drug theme for the rct olympics, back those days, but didn't have the time to build it those days.
So yes, what did I want to say?

...a little more subtlety would've helped the park greatly.  I mean, the whole thing screams god and drugs.

a very fun park to look at overall, and congrats on breaking the top ten, magnus.

Thanks you tracidEdge. Did I get the parkmaker spot? :p

And about more subtlety. I don't think this would have been possible. See readme if i ever get to the point to finish it.

euhm, yes, I didn't finish something?

    - God's Isle
    - Life is a Rollercoaster
    - rct Olympics Hotel
    - PT2 prelims:
    + Hotel
    + Minetrain
    + Bridge
    + 4D

Sorry I don't drink alcohol and I'm not doing any other drugs, but there are private reasons for this theme aswell. The rainbow was a last minute addition to the park. I personally like that area of the park the most, though it was build in 2 or 3 days.

And I thought Posix was your mentor!?!?

    Posix. hehe
    waiting for his comment ;)

Thanks for all the other comments. Further are very welcome, especially about the philosophical background of the park.

Wow, you mite have used less space then I did

I think comparing it to GCC is fair, mainly dure to that part with the mine train. The island is made in the same way with the landblocks and ugly overused trees, just like in GCC. Look, im ripping my fav part of your entry, I liked that area the best with the elevators to the mine trains station, the pot sign was neat and the swans were a funny touch. I did not really care for the other 2 sections. I think this is the second best yet behind DJ's.

Congrats on making the top 10 Magnus

Dayamn... I really enjoyed this entry, definitly my favourite so far. It really must have taken ages to do, there are some extreme details in there and how you based the rides around them was just genius. Also i think you deserve the award for best Multi-Dimension-coaster. Seriously, that 4D coaster blew me away, the way it lined up perfectly to duel on the lift hill and drop, and it actually had rotations! Its by no means the most 'conventional' park i've seen, but its just so imaginative and creative, great ideas and execution.

There was onlny one weak bit, which was the twister coaster area, was a bit limited in comparison to the other areas. My favourite area definitly was the nine-cloud labs, great use of red/yellow and i loved the sleek, modern look of it, and how the 4D coaster interacts with it. The 'pot' area was extremely creative, a slight overuse of pink i feel but apart from that the foilage made a great atmosphere, and also drunken swans? Lmao! The mine train was a little short for my taste, but still, the effort into it is amazing. The hacks for the lifts, great idea aswell.

Superb entry, definitly my fav so far. :)

It's fast becoming apparent that I had no idea what the hell I was doing when judging :(...oh well.

I call BS! Panic, you were chosen as a judge because Iris values your opinion and thinks your input will help form a well-rounded cross section of viewpoints, along with the other judges. Once you accept that challenge there are no wrong answers. Your opinion is just that -- your opinion. In this case it's one voice out of 6 that forms a chorus of official opinions. You were asked what you think and if what you think isn't the same as what everyone else thinks that just means the system is working.

More about this park from me later, but first some updated stats:

    Posted Image

Something strange is going to happen here soon. We still have no #2 from Turtle, nor a #3 from Toon or Fatha. If those 3 scores go to the same park, that park would have to have an average of 10 from the other 3 judges to get at least 38 points. Interesting...

^ In that case the next few parks are definitely going to be hit or miss...

My quip was just a joke, Magnus. Ya know, old running joke thing.

Besides, the things you completed were small. This is the closest thing you've come to a "complete" park! :p

I can't open it. Anyone want to send me or host the .sv6 for me?
    ^Nevermind about that.

Park looks fantastic though (ha-ha Magnus I beat you :p ).

I didn't like this park one bit. I for one am not religious, and I don't really get what magnus was going for when making this park. It doesn't seem that creative to me, with so many ripped off ideas, and this park really isn't original enough to get the whole WHAT IN THE WORLD factor. In summary, if you really want something like this to be enjoyable, you have to be original, as well as creative.

    If HandyAndyG judged:

    DarkJanus
    Kumba
    Old Red
    Six Frags
