I'm not sure... but when i went to apply the patch it said my version was already up to date

(hence why i had no problems playing under windows xp...)

Question- what if the autoplay window reads "play" "uninstall" and "exit" even though RCt is not installed, and nothing happens when i click the play or uninstall buttons?

I think there should be the possibility to open the cd with the Windows Explorer and start the setup.exe manually o_O

RollerCoaster Tycoon: File Access Error
Data File Corrupted or Inaccessible

Any idea what this is?
I am using your English languaged LL version together with my German RCT1 version, together with your No CD trick.
The error pops up about 5 seconds after loading any savegame.
First time I got the error was after I changed the map size of a park via RCT Save Game Modifier V3.13.

Can't reinstall the game at the moment as I need to get the LL copy again, which should happen tomorrow when I get my external HD back from a friend.

re-install?
sounds like you corrupted one of the core files.. not sure, but usually deleting them and putting in a fresh set tends to work for stuff like this.

edit:
aaaand in the ultimate irony mine has just started giving me the same error. stop using your mind powers to spread the problem, magnus.

edit2: mine is back up and running with a full reinstall [RCt first, then LL, then make sure to patch in the correct order}

Re-Install was what I will do today when I am back from uni.
That always worked.

i get this all the time for some reason

uninstall
go to your dat file and delete the corrupted file(s)
reinstall

pretty much what ][ntamin said... just thought I'd say that a simple reinstall won't work because the corrupted dat file isn't deleted so you have to go manually delete it

good point, but i wouldn't know if that's true..
.. my uninstall file doesn't run properly anyway so i just manually delete every time i reinstall. >_>

This happened to me too once, I didn't have to reinstall completely. I looked in the RCT directory for a file that had been modified recently (made a backup of it) and overwrote it with the original from the disc. For me it was data/game.cfg that was corrupted. I don't know if it would be the same in all cases.

Presumably game.cfg is the game's configuration file so overwriting it will put all your settings like running the game in a window back to the defaults.

Still, a lot less hassle than reinstalling in my opinion.

My RCT LL still wont work, whenever i try to install i get this message that rct.1 will not copy, then i tried to copy it onto my desktop and it won't work.

Hey posix. I'm relatively new to RCT and RCT2 so forgive me if I ask stupid stuff. I'm in the UK and so have the UK version of RCT. I've tried to install the UK patch provided in your guide but all I get is; UNABLE TO UPDATE FILES
UNRECOGNISED GAME VERSION, WRONG LANGUAGE OR GAME FILES ARE CORRUPTED

Also, even without trying to install any patches, I can play any of the basic scenarios for as long as I like and I can the save the games too, but if I try to load any games it crashes the game and I effectively have to start all over.

Please help!

I'm not sure if anyone asked this yet (I don't want to read through pages of questions) but will the drexler patch work for vista? Is there any other problems I should know about with vista?

to get codex to work you have to run vista in classic look or it won't work... other than that I haven't had real problems
