69 votes yet 99 total votes, why so many null votes? That is 10 total null votes if every person on each team that was in this match null voted which is doubtful. Why can't people just vote?

  • inthemanual%s's Photo

22 null votes from the teams, since team size increased by 1 this year. There's always a few null votes from people who are too new to vote, don't think their vote should count, or whatever. Some like ziscor think it's too close to call.

There's also the dropouts like Jaguar, rct2day and Julow. Although Jaguar did vote in the poll. :p All adds up though.

I'm bummed that the UltraRealists didn't win since I think they're the most creative team so far with still possibly the strongest player lineup on paper. Would be a shame if they didn't go through. My vote for E.V.I.L. was not strategic though, I just love the park a lot and it took me by surprise. CnC is pretty phenomenal too but most of it just didn't stike a chord with me like E.V.I.L. did. Match could've gone either way though. Can't see CnC didn't deserve it! Pac, I think this is my favourite work from you in H2H since DAW. :) I think it's interesting to note that you invented a new brand of realism that is still super popular to this day, with DAW and Starpointe, yet you've been gravitating away from that style yourself more and more with every release. CnC is just another step further into the direction of the gritty, awkwardness-embracing brand of realism people like geewhzz and RRP belong to. Curious to see where you'll go next. Part of me hopes you can combine your skills with theming again. That's the one thing I loved about Lotte World which was otherwise too cold for me.

Also, here's the vote progression graph of this match. The numbers are just the poll numbers, so no corrections are included.

I really loved evil, but am certainly not sad  to see CnC win. Certainly a good park either way! I agree with liam that UR is having a pretty great season and its a shame to see it flopping for them. I would have said the exact same thing if the replacements had won too though... a real exciting matchup. 95% from pac? whats with you and robbie not being able to work with anyone :p

I think only now it's appropriate for me to review their park.

WITHOUT KNOWING THE SOURCE MATERIAL WELL, this park seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. I think this park wants to be the kitsch, tacky place that I at least hoped for, but it reads too cleanly for that. So you  have these unapologetically ugly design choices like that dome on top of the arcade and that gaudily lit Music Express, juxtaposed to clean pathwork and in places a level of textural depth that feels unwelcome in this setting. Picking one way or the other would have boosted my enjoyment of this by a lot.
I appreciate things being stacked on top  of each other; Desert Storm  laying on top of a Go-Karts track was a highlight for me, but I think in other places you could have done with a few less buildings or attractions to allow for more space in general on the "plaza parts" of the map, instead of having every inch filled to the brim.

The best thing to compare this to would be Belmont shores, which accomplished more with less things and a clearer direction of the map. 75%

Two really great parks. I'm not surprised in the slightest to see it close; perhaps wasn't expecting a single vote difference, however.

Oh wow, so sad Evil lost...

I must say I regret that some don't seem to fully appreciate the appeal of parks outside the hyper realistic uberdetailed style.

That shouldn’t be a surprise. Some people just aren’t able to appreciate anything that isn’t their “cup of tea”.

    Haha, this ^

I personally tend to prefer original approaches at RCT but for me CnC was the winner, even if I'm not usually a fan of realism stuff. I'm quite surprised by all the people voting for Evil because for me it just didn't work (no offense UR... damn my ex team is really going to hate me!).

I couldn't appreciate this park because of the landscape (LOTR rocks) and the colors (specially the color of the peach rocks contrasting weirdly with the red blood roller coaster). Still awesome ideas and architecture on EVIL but there was also some awesome and rare aesthetics on CnC.. even if people want it to be classified as a classic and boring american park. It's more than that. I'm repeating myself but I loved the use of objects like the giant dome or the western stuff near the wooden coaster.

The only thing I didn't like in CnC was Desert Storm, the Hopkins roller coaster. I don't know if it's the layout or the track choice, but it wasn't very appealing to look at. Everything else was excellent.

I feel like people are bored of this realism stuff and I understand them, but when it comes from you Pacificoaster it's always a pure delight. It's smart and super interesting to look at. Please continue !

Having different opinions is expected and great - after all, several realism players voted for a non realistic Park here. It’s people who are narrow minded who suck.

Exciting match. Quite a bit of a rollercoaster this voting period, but it’s exciting to see us take the W. Alex & co., your park certainly was great and filled with neat ideas and architecture. I pushed for a Bond park for a bit but you guys did the most you could that sort of concept and it turned out great. Our park was definitely fun to watch evolve as well, and Pac really put his all into making sure it turned out great.

As far as controversial voting goes, I don’t see a need for a revote. If members can “mis-click”, see the voting percentages, and then be allowed to swap their vote, then there is far more wrong with this contest than someone reminding other members that there’s still a poll open for the ongoing event. From anyone’s current point of view the tally should be 36-33, not some sort of meticulous equation resulting in a single vote margin.

It would have been a tough loss for either park and I enjoyed both a lot.

Evil got my vote and things like the rockwork enhanced the look for me.  On my second viewing I will say the dissonance between the Bond villain lair elements and the theme park elements stuck out a little more and it hurts the park in my eyes.  Overall it feels a little too restrained and I get the sense that there's ample opportunity for this theme to be more fun in general.  It feels like there were some things that didn't make the cut and an effort was made to prevent things from getting too silly, something I consider a misstep.  Maybe it's just the red rocks making me think of Dr. Evil's lair (somewhere outside of Las Vegas) but I felt a satirical edge would have helped the park a bit.  A comically fictional superweapon such as the Vulcan (the world's most powerful subterranean drill) might have taken the edge off all the awesome but somewhat stark elements like the missile barrages and machine gun nests.

I owe a lot of parks a review, including CnC so I will look at a format to give some thoughts on all the great parks this H2H has to offer.

If one is acting stupid and butthurt, it's you. Stop acting like a bad loser.

  • inthemanual%s's Photo

@Fred, nobody's saying you need to like everything. The conversation is about people not being able to understand the appeal of parks that aren't gritty and realistic, not about whether those people particularly like them themselves.

  • RWE%s's Photo

Good matchup, voted CnC, but it was a tough decision. Oh and you're all wonderful people btw, no need to discuss like that.

  • Camcorder22%s's Photo

The thing that gets me is that everyone who says a fantasy park isn't "their cup of tea" and "people are entitled to their opinions" are the same ones that will put you through a fucking interrogation if you don't think parks like Tubaio deserve a 95%.
