Never thought viewing a Rtc map would make me Feel like my heart was being ripped out of my bum. Not really too sure what else to say to be honest besides, Thank you.

Barn, this map feels super personal... The emotions are definitely very strong and touchable in here. The scenes portrayed with her are very strong and everything is knotted together really well. So well that having a winter ski slope not far from a summer beach doesn't look weird at all.

The choice for adding static black peeps as shadows of the past is very neat idea. The sunset is also a cool feature. Architecture is strong, very clean and interesting shapes all around. The round building at the last turn is my fav building on this map, though the concert with the roses thrown on stage was also very nice.

I'm kinda agreeing with G Force that the coaster itself isn't very much the big highlight of this design entry. I do think it def adds some very needed movement to the map because without, the map would have been too static.

Thanks for telling your story Barn, you did it in a powerful way. I hope building this helped with clearing the old relationship and help you move on. Hope you're doing well buddy.

    I'm gonna cry dude.

Ever since I really got myself integrated with NE post-H2H9, I've always seen RCT as a really funny form of visual art. Even realistic and mundane releases are still from the perspective of its creator. Still, some daring parkmakers with vibrant visions turn the 25 year-old theme park game into an isometric canvas, painting master strokes that speak to their tastes, interests, and for some, their personal experiences. The sentiment of RCT as art has not been truer in a long time than now, as a realism star missing that big solo release explodes into the limelight while becoming a master in conceptual storytelling. I knew barnNID was Elite-level with every screen he posted (and when he whooped my ass in Micro Madness) and now all of you are seeing it for yourselves. Who I once called NE's most underrated parkmaker is now a legend in his own right.

+ It's funny how this contest bookended itself with artistic entries that use the coaster as a linear progression through a storyline. Where this one excels is finding a perfect balance and nuance. Too simple or explicit and it lacks power. Too esoteric and it can leave viewers confused. Farewell presents itself almost like a scrapbook, with cobbled-together memories accompanied by brief captions and vague thoughts that offer almost enough context. Realistic scenes are augmented by artistic flourishes such as every peep outside of the couple being shadowed and out of focus, merely extras to the couple's story. Look closely and you'll see that only two peeps ever ride The Wanderer, not just a connecting fabric but a representation of the relationship itself. As AntonStengel said, it goes through ups, downs, twists, and tragically a conclusion. Despite this, it leaves some parts ambiguous. How did the relationship come to an end? Is the final sunset the end of the storyline, or does the One Woman Show hint at an uglier and less poetic finish? I have never seen a larger collective emotional response to a RCT park and it's because it strikes this balance perfectly. Absolutely ballsy to commit to something this personal and it results in one of the finest examples of story-based RCT ever made.

+ But oh, just because a park is le artistique doesn't mean it's well built by default! Hahahahaha anyway the actual quality of this build is astounding. On all fronts from landscape to architecture, the detail is just through the roof. The half diagonal ski lift is freakishly good. The Grand Theater is insane. The zoo and Muskoka Stars buildings are seamless. So many different types of landscapes and you hit a grand slam with every single one. I usually touch on architectural and landscape highlights separately but I don't think I can here. The quality is beyond reproach no matter where you look.

+ Still, I want to specifically pay attention to the little scenes throughout. Turn on that OpenGL zoom for this bad boy. When you really soak in the liveliness of each scene, it really does feel like a movie. Shoutout to the scene of the couple dancing in front of the crowd of shadowy peeps; that one just gets me dude.

+ I am thoroughly tickled by the fact that the emotional piano score that turns the atmosphere of this design up to 11 is from a RPG Maker game. Finding Paradise for those curious! I haven't played it or its iconic prequel To The Moon and had to look up Kan R. Gao since I wasn't familiar with him initially. As someone who's dabbled with the engine (and won a game jam with it #humblebrag), it's nice to see this relatively niche genre turn up in this community. Indie games, man.

? The coaster takes a backseat admittedly, which I think is a bit of a drawback for a Design Challenge. As I've said, it feels less like a star attraction and more like a way to connect all these fragmented memories together. I do think there is a little bit of a disconnect between the progression of the coaster and the events on the map. While the coaster starts and ends at the church, the map itself seems to progress linearly from the church to the beach. Or does it? Maybe the scrapbook-style feel lends to the ambiguity of it all, leaving you to put the pieces together and figure it out. Still, the way it interacts with each scene is admirable.

    - If I had to say anything remotely negative about this design, the map edge does leave something to be desired. Floating water surfaces and hastily buried Fisch rocks are nowhere near as elegant as the standard the rest of the map sets.

Congratulations on winning NEDC, congratulations on Elite Parkmaker, and most of all thank you so much for being trusting and vulnerable enough to spill this part of your life onto our favorite isometric canvas for us to experience with you. We are so lucky to have you Daylan.

What a beautiful map man, made me a little emotional too, something i never thought was possible with a rct park.

The content on the map is insanely good, i absolutely adore that theater stage and i love how well all the little pieces of the collage come together as one. It doesnt feel too disjointed at all, which really surprised me with this, but its an attirbute to your incredible park making.

Otherwise i agree with what the others have said, the concept is done wonderfully and the imagery with the coaster as a metaphor is quite touching. I really respect that you went for something personal like this and that youre brave enough to share it with us to judge in a contest nontheless. Or maybe im interpreting to much into it, but regardless...

Congratulations on winning the NEDC with such a great score and on the elite parkmaker status too! And thank you for this amazingly touching work, im really looking forward to what you create in the future!

    -Concept: ****

usually 3 stars is the max I put on these little categories I use to evaluate a park, but in this case I had to go beyond and commend you on such an unique, emotional and fresh take on a concept in RCT. Don't think we've ever seen such a personal and deeply moving piece on NE, and although I don't fully know the ins and outs of how the relationship went and ended, I get some of the story beautifully told through all the objects you've used and the set pieces you've created.

    -Content: ***

All the stories you've created is a great trip through your memory lane.

    -Quality: ***

Very high typical Barn quality throughout like I know you for. Especially love all the landscaping and the way you've created the sunset at the water.

    Overall;

I mean, wow, what a park. Very happy to see you giving us such a beautiful story told in RCT.

At first I thought what are all the people in black doing, but after reading what hydro said it perfectly made sense, and gave the park so much more meaning.

All the objects you've created add so much to the story, and make it really stand out. The flowers thrown on stage, the skiing peeps, the peeps sitting on the towels at the beach, even the 2-view painting in the bar (which surely references something likewise in real life).. It really takes us through your memories with your loved one, and makes this such a multi-layered piece of art.

Also want to point out the beautiful framing you did with every piece of the story. Like every part of the story has it's own corner, but still blends well and it's so subtly integrated into the macro.

Major props on the well chosen piano song playing as well, fits perfectly!

I wasn't expecting something like this coming out of NEDC, but boy am I glad you did and that you shared it with us!

Well done on a much deserved win!

I really dont know where to begin.  I have looked at this entry several times and wonder how hard emotionally this must have been to build especially in a short time frame and not get lost in memories.

The concept is and execution is nothing short amazing.  the care and love to make sure every little aspect is perfect really pulls through.  Its so cool to see so many different mini themes on a map that normally be cohesive but this works so well.

There are so many things I love about this from the sunset on the beach, the detailing of the theater and the church/station are all done perfectly.

To be honest, I kinda wish the coaster was not on the map as I think it pulls away from the feel of what you created.  You have all these peaceful/thoughtful scenes in each area and then a massive coaster zooming around.  I realize this was a design challenge and the coaster is the key element and is normally a part of the theme but this feels like the coaster is actually taking away from it for me.

That said, this is stunning and congrats on the win and the new title.  Well deserved

One of the things that I think is really tough in contest parks is preventing someone from opening the map, spending very little time on it, and then making up their mind and moving on to the next one.

This park really draws the viewer in emotively, and then also, once you get the theme, on a very focused journey of discovery for all the little stories dotted around the map.

I couldn't leave until I'd found every last one and each one drew me in further.

That's really difficult to do - not just build a theme that's personal to the builder, but make it so it draws others in too, and keeps them looking at the map.

Epic story telling, love the chairlift and just overall an amazingly high quality piece of RCT.

Congrats on the win and parkmaker Barn, it's well deserved! And thank you too for all the new objects, an aspect of your parkmaking which is often overlooked.

What the heck, I didn't come here to feel.

But I did. Emotionally strong, different from anything I've seen both from a storytelling, concept and macro perspective. Beautifully executed. This is a park no one will forgot soon.

Mega congrats on the new name color Barn, very very well deserved.

Some really beautiful work here. The architecture, foliage, and landscaping all come together in a way that feels organic and very carefully considered. The whole composition has this flowing, off-grid energy that keeps things visually interesting from every angle. It’s easy to get lost just panning around and taking it all in. Really really great work.

The ski slope was amazing and blew me away. The half diagonal chairlift is so cool. I also liked the train a lot, even thought It felt a bit oversized compared to the rest of the park, but it definitely added to the atmosphere.

The only thing I struggled with was fully locking into the theme. There’s clearly a narrative or concept here, and I feel like I was close to understanding it, but a few key details didn’t quite land for me. It felt just a bit too abstract in places for me. However, others clearly got it so that may just be me being to dumb to get it.

Still, this is a really impressive entry overall, and even if the theme didn’t fully click for me, I really enjoyed exploring it and this was my personal favourite entry overall, so I am glad to see that this entry did win in the end!

I enjoyed this as a viewing experience but I'm sorry to say that I had trouble figuring out the timeline. I really enjoyed the content but I think that it could have used a readme to help explain it all. I don't know what I'd rate it to be honest because I enjoyed it in a melancholic sort of way but I found myself a bit confused.

Wow, first of all big congrats are in order, well done on pipping me to the win! This entry feels deeply infused with emotion and personal reflection, and is a lovely merger of something more conceptually focused with an expert building technique. My initial reaction upon opening it and noticing the blacked out peeps and church building was to think it was themed to the rapture, and reminded me a lot of the show The Leftovers. After a deeper look and noticing the repeating couple it clicked for me and I began to see more in the scenes and connect with it emotionally. The theming feels collage-like, but that drives home the story of looking back through various memories. The foliage throughout is some of the best I've seen, super thick with the different trees and bushes without appearing chaotic. The stabs of pink/white/yellow flowers are superb. The sunset is a cool effect but the result sticks out as little messy given how cleanly made the rest of the map is. The music is also perhaps a bit mawkish for my taste (then again the music I chose was far too brash lol).
