Description
Lake Anachronism is an homage to old-school RCT. It was built almost entirely in RCT Classic on iPad using a custom 'vanilla' scenario with no cheats, no hacks and with money enabled too! In this way it's a bit of an anachronism in the context of what's possible with the game today, hence the name (which is also a tribute to the RCT1 scenario). The park was entered into the 2025 Title Sequence Contest for OpenRCT2.

This is the sort of stuff that makes me want to play more often; super charming and fun. Really amazing that this was done without cheats or hacks.
Considering this was made with no-hacks, there is little to criticize. As I mentioned in my original review, I think land shading under the water would have went a long way. Seeing how Sssammy is doing the architecture in Fundamental Forest, there's more possibilities of detail and exuberance with your buildings. But I also respect that what you did is more of a stylistic choice. And you nailed the style you sought after.
The coaster line-up is fabulous. I absolutely love how brilliantly timed the inverts are. The woodie and floorless are excellent as well.
This entry got absolutely robbed in the Title Sequence Comp, so glad to see it getting its dues here.
This gives me the same feel I had when I first saw the RCT2 Real Parks in 2002, but with so many modern design sensibilities and bits of flair. No lie, it genuinely made me tear up a bit. It feels like a love letter to classic RCT.
The wonderland and sci-fi sections are stand outs to me, as well as of course the incredible dueling inverts. The sharp visual design and the variety of little buildings make it all the more impressive that this is nohax.
This was a lot of fun to watch. Amazing that you made this without hacks. Despite the limitations of playing without hacks this is still quite good, especially the way everything is composed and layed out is masterfully done. Great work!
What nostalgia, I loved it. It was really good, no tricks, fun, interesting, very cool
Cute and fun NCSO build that was relaxing to view. I enjoyed it. It is clear that it was fun to make, and I am very glad to see you playing again.
this was a very enjoyable map for me, harknening back to a more care free time. obviously pretty basic in terms of what's going on theme-wise... however, there was also a few really classy moments that in my opinion point to a builder who just has good taste - the mowed grass/openness in the japanese area, the ride interaction under the woodie lift hill with the flume and monorail, beautiful flower patches.
felt like most parts of this could sit on the title screen really comfortably... good stuff.
I liked the dueling inverts quite a lot! The no cheating here was fun and refreshing to look through it. You used neutral space in nice ways throughout the map. I think some of the architecture could be more interesting in terms of color and trim, but I did like how you shaped buildings in each area. The layouts are all fun and well integrated into each area.
- love the last two elements on the joust, feel like this kind of trains crashing into each other feeling could have been the early feature of the ride too!
- love the sawmill falls drop and its setting, emerging out from the coaster and rocks into a nice open lake
- spaceport 3024 - feels like this area for the boldness of its colors and objects needed more space to flesh it out in more detail. the drop machine feels cramped and the volcano blocks the view of the drop for close guests
- lumberjack - there's a woodie! highlight of the park for me, great ride.
really good comeback, all very technically sound!
Congrats on the silver Xophe! Very nice map that showcases a very high level of fundamental park building. I enjoyed it thoroughly. This release goes to show that, no matter what platform or which game version; cheats or no cheats; good rct is good rct. Great work!
Thanks all for the comments! This was a fun one to build over about a year. I was itching to use zero clearances and the tile inspector but didn't have those options in Classic! And then when I finally ported it over to Open to do the last 5-10% I decided to keep it true to those original limitations. Was fun just playing the game as I imagine Chris Sawyer intended! Glad people seem to have enjoyed it too
