Sorry for what will be a shorter review than normal for me, but I am a bit busy with travelling and such. I love and respect posix, but I disagree with almost everything he said. That's okay though because we all have our own artistic tastes and opinions, and it makes for a richer panel if there are diverse perspectives.
I found this map to be quite aesthetically groundbreaking within the realm of RCT. The map is honestly pretty close to how my 15-year-old self would have imagined what "maximum" potential RCT would look like when I first encountered the game, if that makes any sense at all. The sense of scale that you all have achieved is quite astounding, and it makes the map seem much more vast than it maybe truly is, which is a cool effect. I want to enter the map and clap my hands and test the echo. I am sure there would be a huge echo. The map also harkened my memory back to that map called "Drowned" from H2H9 R1, and for what it's worth I actually kind of like the composition of this map more in terms of purely selling the post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Really cool work regardless, fellas!
incredibly hard park to score, i know that's not really your objective but this is so different that it's hard to rank alongside other submissions. i imagine there might be a large range because of this, which again shouldn't come as a surprise.
i always struggle with "junk" themes, which this sort of is.. the post apocalyptic vibe lends itself to mess and disorder, which is pretty much the opposite of what i enjoy viewing. there's only a couple of times that i've really enjoyed viewing a theme like this. this one was more "impressive" than "enjoyable" for me, but that's still something that i appreciate and think should be celebrated. obviously it's massively overgrown which makes the whole thing pretty hard to work out what's going on.
it was definitely dense, and i found myself watching the rides a few times as they were pretty unorthodox. i thought you guys did a generally great job with the scenery, and the individual parts were pretty readable despite being a mish mash of a lot of seldom-used stuff. chocolate bar overhangs, cannon wheels, and the little church was a particular highlight.
The map is technically impressive, especially as ruined large-scale architecture goes, but I find some of the WW/TT objects stretching their ability to convey the thing they're trying to represent. For theme park elements, the smaller more down-to-earth type rides like the food rationing building and the go karts dodging cars and driving on the ruined roads were neat, but the bigger rides are kind of strange and awkward. All the ride names just feel like inside jokes that I'm not a part of, and I sympathize with posix in that I feel like I can't see anything I'm trying to look at half the time.
The only coaster I really like is the suspended swinging coaster, I find those supports really inventive and interesting looking. I really like a lot of the rock work, and something about that brick building in the back over the train tracks is a neat little shape and size, and uses that vertical space there well. Overall the map is very cool but I find it a bit frustrating to look at.
