    Ed's idea gets my vote.

You've got very good intentions in your suggestion to stay with the rules, Ed, and I think the idea is a reasonable one. However, it takes for granted the fact that the vote represents exactly the opinion of the site, no more, no less, and that we should preserve that. I hate to be a conspiracy theorist and all, but what about those 11 registered members in the past two days while all this was going on? It may be nothing at all. It may be just a coincidence. Why I'm suggesting a draw or a tie is not because the score is tied and it seems final enough. It's that I have a slight suspicion that a couple, or a few, of those registered voters could have done so to vote for a designated team, upon request from a team member or something. If just one or two of those new members registered solely for that purpose, it would throw off the honesty of the vote because the vote wouldn't be representing the opinion of the site. It would be the opinion of the site, plus extra votes for one or both of the teams. Now we don't know how much it would have thrown it off, or whether it happened at all. If it happened, and we could calculate how many extra votes there were, we could calculate what the vote would have been without them, and thus the opinion of the site, and the system would still work. The problem is we just don't know. Now granted, there's a strong possibility that I'm just overreacting to something unusual, and that nothing happened at all. But would you try keeping the vote open when we don't know, the risk being that it could have been altered and doesn't represent the community's opinion, or close it down, the risk being that it might not have been altered. I think it's a tricky situation to solve.

Maybe this whole "extra registered members" thing is getting tiresome, I'm sorry if it is. I just think it deserves an inquiry.

Damn! These 2 parks have been neck in neck for a while now.

My vote went to the Hurricanes because there park was very calming and had a nice classic feel to it while the MoLLesters park was jumbled and really a big mess Imo. The 1st half(The tan area. Couldn't find the name for it.) was all over the place. No well defined theme and a just a mess. The 2nd half(The grey area. Couldn't find the name for it.) was basic and simple. It was also stuff I've seen many, many, times.

So apparently, I was wrong in some of the stuff I told people on AIM. There can be no tie.

Blah... I just tried making a poll and seeing if I could make results public, as in who voted for who, but you can do that with these forums. So bah. (in case anyone saw that topic for the ten seconds it existed and was wondering where it went)

Whats the rule against there being a Tie?

I agree there needs to be a rule written for these situations.

So then what happens? You can't declare anyone the winner. Both teams have had the lead at so many points you just can't declare a winner. Why the heck can there not be a tie?
  • posix%s's Photo
maybe invent a new rule on what to do when a poll reaches 40-40. because from then on, it depens more on those guys who manage to create more dummy accounts in order to vote. we all know it happens.

The Hurricanes are ahead of the MoLLesters by 2. Why not just delcare them the winner since they are ahead right now? Seems like the easiest solution to me and will put an end to this whole "Tie" argument.

I only say this as a suggustion, not because I want the Hurricanes to win.

Cant dissagree with that one! :p

I think maybe voting should be done differently. Maybe, your vote should be sent in a PM to someone trusted (thats not in H2H) so that it stops all the dummy votes and things. I seriously doubt people have actually been voting like this. This is the biggest lead either team has taken, there must be a way of corky checking whos voted what/when?
  • Themeparkmaster%s's Photo
Personaly I, and I am sure the team, will feel pretty hard done by if we lost now because they had a 2 vote gap and we needed to get the round out of the way. It's like Posix said, this won't be a fair way of either team winning. I said this in the captains forum and I'll say it here...

"All I can say is that this poll has been open twice as long as any others and the vote is still tied at 54-54. If there is a deadline set it will be one vote from some randomer or a bunch of instigated votes that win the contest and it will end up just being disputed.

There isn't anything in the rules about a tie but then again there is nothing in the rules about extending a vote if it is this close so I personally think there should be a tied rule written in and it be called as that and we move on. In all honesty, with no disrespect to the Vehemences, a draw is hardly a bad result for us Kumba it still leaves us 3 wins above the Vehemnces."

I'm all for a tie-decision, even though the votes may not be equal. A tie is the best description of this match-up, and i'm sure it could be worked into the results. It may even be inconsequential in the long-run.
  • Roomie%s's Photo
If both captains agree on a tie then why not?

everyone knows dummy accounts are being used and either team will be pissed off if its called now as both teams have been ahead by 4 points at least once.

iris2486 (11:09:06 PM): ur the only authority

    ...

I wonder if things would be any different if you weren't on the Hurricanes team or the current scores were the other way around. I also find it incredible that whenever we get a vote the Hurricanes get one back usualy within 5 minutes.

Everyone bar Hurricanes members seems to think a draw is reasonable, understandably so, but see it from our point of view. It also gives a rule if anything like this is to happen again in the future.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
The Iris comment was a joke. Hence the :D

Anyway, after conferring with Iris (hey, I'm still new!), and taking into account what you guys have said, I officially announce this matchup a TIE.

The official score of this match at the time it was called is:
    Hurricanes 55
    MoLLesters 55

    The Hurricanes improve to 1-0-1
    The MoLLesters improve to 1-0-1

The Hurricanes' Sierra Glen was made by slob and Drew.

The MoLLesters' Symphony of Pollution was made by Gutterflower and Thorpedo.

In looking at this, I actually gave the edge to SoP by a tiny margin because it seemed a bit more innovative. It was definitely stiff competition, of course, and I was rooting for my team all the way. I think slob and Drew went a little too classical here. Probably some more detail would have sealed it more solidly for us... but this was very Schuessler-esque, in the truest sense of the word.

Also, I am adding the following three rules to the rule book. They concern close matchups like ours as well as how ties will count in the overall standings. And the other one is season record tiebreakers.

    - All matches from now on will have a maximum five day limit, or 120 hours after they are posted. A match may be called well before that if it is obvious that one park will win, but in the case of a very tight, back and forth matchup, the final score will be called exactly five days after the park is posted. During the regular season, the score will hold, win or tie. However, during the playoffs, should the score still be tied after exactly five days, a special "recount" will be issued. A new poll will be set up for exactly 24 hours before it is closed, featuring the same question, but ideally less time to allow for any "cheat" votes. Should that still result in a tie, a special impartial three or five person committee will be set up to judge the parks.

    - In regular season standings, ties count less than wins but are better than losses. Mathematically, you could say a tie is like .49 wins. Upon the conclusion of the season, wins take precedence above all. For example, 5-2-0 is better than 4-2-1. 5-2-0 is also better than 4-1-2. However, should two teams have an equal number of wins, the team with less losses as the advantage. For example, 4-1-2 is better than 4-2-1, and 5-1-1 is better than 5-2-0.

    - In the event two teams fighting for the same playoff spot, the tiebreak procedures go like this:1. The team with the better head to head record advances.
    2. The team with the better record within its division advances.
    3. The team with the better record against the other division advances.
    4. The team with more total votes throughout the season (add up how many votes it got in each matchup) advances.
It's unlikely it'll ever get to the last one, but if it does, that's just my way of keeping voter turnout high, as it might come back to matter, even in a blowout. Votes will be counted according to what is listed in the SCORES thread. Those scores are whatever the score is when I post the first matchup for the following week, not what the score is when I officially call a match (since often, people still vote afterwards, and I encourage this).

Well this is very fair, but I am disapointed, a tie is not a win and anything less then a win does not cut it by my standers. slob & Drew don't get down, you did awsome, it was a great park and I had no troble giveing you my vote to win honestly. MoLLsters you also did pretty darn well, its was a neat ill park. I agree with the ruleing Cork, tho its not what I hoped for, but if one of us was picked as the winner all hell whould have broken lose. Now how big is our week 8 match-up :|''''

no wonder i liked Sierra Glen so much. it had slob and Drew.

    fucking unbelievable.
  • sloB%s's Photo
well, honestly, i'm pretty disapointed too but that's mainly becuase i don't see how people could be voting for SoP; i realize my style is completley dissimilar to that of the park, but i just don't get it. and i know that many of you could say the same about my park, but it just gets me frustrated that a park i did and still do think is awesome, loses. well, what are you gonna do.

thanks a whole lot for making that park with me drew; i definitley had a blast and you came through when you were needed. I'm sure it's pretty easy to see, but the suspended and most of the surrounding architecture/theming is mine, and Drew made most of the log flume, with the exception of the layout itself. awesome station for that log flume, by the way.

lastly, i realize that there were a bunch of small imperfections in the park, such as uncovered stalls and the like. it's not really an excuse, but we had hardly any time to finish up the park. i had to leave for park city on vacation and Drew came through for me to finish up the park. the end was very rushed and we didn't have time to check over for those minor things. i plan to go back and fix all those small problems. if anyone wants Sierra Glen v2, just PM me. good job mollesters.
