Just like to say that they have really diverted from their usual stuff, this is a new Coldplay we are hearing now. My first impressions tell me the new album is fantastic, and particularly track 4, Fix You.
By the way, did anybody else work out the "code" in the booklet? Quite cool isn't it?!
Anyway, what does everyone think about it? -

Just bought it, along with Parachutes.
Listened to Parachutes first, and was a bit let down.
Here's hoping X&Y is as good you say. -

It's obviously not as impressive as Parachutes, but it's still really brilliant.
I love every bit of it. The songs I didn't like at first I really grew into, after the third or fourth time I listened to this album.
My four fav. tracks are:
4. X&Y
3. Talk
2. What If?
1. Fix You -

This is not bashing, alright, but seriously. "A new Coldplay?" I think not. They have NOT derived from their usual formula. The songs are still the same as they wrote them on Parachutes. Really, there is no progress in their three albums. If they want to have any credibility, they need to change things up, if they want to stay successful and keep going platinum, keep it the way they are. Sadly, they are chosing the latter. Their music just can't hold my interest for long, considering everything sounds the same.Just like to say that they have really diverted from their usual stuff, this is a new Coldplay we are hearing now.

Considering the rest of your post, I think you meant 'diverted' or something similar. They have NOT derived from their usual formula.
I think that X&Y is too overblown and not memorable enough to stand the test of time. Parachutes is still far and away their best 'album' as a whole.
Fix You...meh. If I had to choose i'd go for...uh...well I can't remember, cos it's so unmemorable. -

I love Coldplay, but I do have to agree that they pretty much sound the same. I mean, "Speed of Sound" is like a mix of "Clocks" and "The Scientist" (I think).
But I do love their songs. I'm not super picky tho. -

No way. The Scientist and most of Parachutes, dude.I actually find Coldplay completely boring. Clocks is the extent of their greatness.
Here's a handy equation:
Shiver*Spies*Sparks+Scientist=Spiffing. -

I'm a huge fan of parachutes and rush of blood, but really, this album hasn't grabbed me at all. Very boring, and it really misses some good tunes (ie yellow, scientist, clocks) Gonna listen to it again as someone actually thought it was good =/. -

Just downloaded it, and now commenced listening.
Thoughts later, but my expectations are low. -

it was even worse than I expected it to be.
Well I got to track 10 and realized I was bored out of my mind listening to it.
so I shut it off and deleted it.
...at least there's still Parachutes. -

dito....at least there's still Parachutes.
after that they completely lost what was good about them. -

Well, A Rush of Blood has its moments. Politik and Amsterdam are fucking amazing and great bookends to the album. Beyond those two there are some good moments, and some bad moments, but mostly plainly decent/average moments.
X&Y, however, is pretty much all bad moments. Or at least bland moments. A few parts make me think "Wow this could be so much better if they'd just..." but they won't because they're obviously lost as a band. -

no. for these reasons.
1) I don't have Soulseek on right now.
2) I shut my computer off when I'm not using it.
3) I don't remember my username.
