General Chat / Electric Kettles

Seriously, and you talk about Americans being lazy! Oh God, I can't believe I just missed out on 4 minutes of my life.

Since I don't drink either coffee or tea, I have no need for a tea kettle, electric or otherwise. The only thing I use the tea kettle for is to boil water to pour into the jars when I make jelly. And that's just to sterilize them. I'm certainly in no rush when I do this as it takes a little while to actually make the jelly anyway....

    easy, mantis.

Our lives don't revolve around substances which require boiling water.

If we ever do, the microwave works fine. An electric kettle seems like a superfluous product when ya think about it... not entirely all that useful, considering some of our microwaves here have a "boil water" option anyway.

My microwave also has a "soften" butter setting, which I think is hilarious (and is suprisingly useful) ^_^

Fuck, I whip up a fire in the morning go out and fetch the fucking kettle and make my tea that way.

i have never used a microwave to boil water. i must really be stuck in the past.

I don't think americans drink a whole lot of tea. Besides, there's always iced tea.

water in a microwave is dangerous here.

I killed the electric cord on mine, as it was on the microwave/oven. Damnit! Now i have to put water in something else, and wait for it to boil, instead of pushing a button and waiting. And because i have electric pits (no gas at my place) it really does take longer! Damnit damnit damnit. I better get a new one haha. For christmas :).

And really, boiled water is awesome! I don't drink tea much, for some reason (prefer coffee, too) but i do use it a lot to speed up making pasta, and for some cup-a-soup! Or one of those handy cups of noodles.. i want my boiler thingie back :'(.

then i guess we found the answer to the riddle :)

And I guess the voltage over there means that electric kettles might take a while anyway. That site said it took 5 minutes to boil 4 cups of water over there? It takes like half that over here.
  • Blitz%s's Photo
yeah, you guys have higher voltage.
  • REspawn%s's Photo
Yeah, Main is 240v. Hehe, I said watts before.

And I really don't get how it can take 5 minutes to boil water. Also I've never seen someone boil water in the microwave over here, but we also don't put cats in the microwave :p

Can you boil water in a microwave..........?
I sometimes boil water in a Kettle on my Aga, but most of the time it's an electric one.

This is also an eye-opener to me.
  • penguinBOB%s's Photo
