Uhm, that new coaster is probably a new ride with a new train design where you sit next to the track instead of above it. There building one in Port Avontura too and that one is a launched one. Believe this kind of ride is called a 'wingwalker'

That's what I have been thinking about aswell. I mean some of the signs are suggestions this aswell.

"Cropduster" just doesn't sound like a thriller to me.

    2 Cents.

heh, I hope it's not an aquatrax unless it has some a crazy-awesome layout. And there's no saying that it's not a launced looper or hell, it could have a lift, we can't really tell since there's no good way to figure out a layout from footers and a dozen (seemingly) random supports.

Wow. That short-shot deal sounds like something special. Imagine doing 100+ mph backwards, then winding up do it again in 30 seconds. :D

On another note, can somebody fill me in on what's a "ball-coaster"?
  • Magnus%s's Photo
Just found the German version, but here are some pics of the first ball-coaster:
    http://www.coastersa...llcoaster.shtml
as mentioned before, it can't go arround curves, so this won't be a ball coaster.

Here is a nice video from Cedarpoint. They act as if that is the first time they ever built up a coaster. If they go on like that it will be a real bumpy ride.

It looks entertaining, but wouldn't that be like the system of the 4th dimension?...there's nothing really new there, I mean, is there any difference?

I believe the seats rotate on their own... A 4D has controlled spins, or whatever...
Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Those who haven't been keeping up to date. Cedar Point has began to lay the track on the new coaster.

Yes the cars at the Ball-Coaster spin on their own. That could probably be one of the most entertaining Coasters ever. I'm really looking forward to ride one of these.

lucky only having to wait 30 minutes for the dragster. I went once on like May 25th or so in 03 when it opened and had to wait 4 hours

Yes, but it "malfunctioned" in the most positive way possible. ;) I'd kill for that to happen to me.

I went on the 18th and this is what I saw.

    Not my pic, from pointbuzz.

It looks like it's gonna be like that new coaster at Port Aventura.

I forgot my camera, but if someone is going soon you can see the construction site perfectly if you look behind you on the lift for Mean Streak.

Oh, and I got on dragster a little after about 45 minute wait. Never got on 3 last time I went, broke down after waiting for 2 hours.

Cjd over at WWS works at CP, and he said the layout looks as though it is going to be a turn into a top hat, then turns and at least one or 2 airtime hills and then an overbank, and then some more after that that he could not really recognise as any specific layout. So at this point it looks like it's either gonna be Rita with a top hat, or an Aquatraxx. Wing Walker is almost for sure out because a few of the turns are so low and highly banked that the wide wing walker trains would be too close to the ground.--> http://rcdb.com/ig3570.htm?picture=5

I went to CP on thursday and some of the waits were terrible.
2 hours for Raptor and 1 1/2 for MF 8@
Only 30 mins for TTD so that wasn't bad.
Most of the other ones were around 5-10 mins so its all good.

It's wierd. I've been to CP once, and Raptor had about a half hour line while MF had 2 1/2 hrs., TTD had 3+ and never even opened, and Magnum was a walk-on. I get the feeling Ohioans don't appreciate a truly great coaster when they see one. :p

I've never seen the Wingwalker cars in real life, so I can't really be sure if this is too close to the ground. But look at the car in the background and such. Maybe they also have to lower the ground a bit later. I pretty much think Wingwalker cars are still possible.

The idea with the Tophat is pretty good. I just saw a piece of track lately that looked like vertical track, because of the supports, so we can hope for a nice layout. Hopefully they have some nice G's. The banking doesn't look like it that at the moment.
  • eman%s's Photo
The top hat is just about definite. CJD said he saw a piece of track with running rails on the outside of the curve with an extremely small radius, which means it's almost for sure a top hat. And yea, Wingwalker cars are still possible, just not likely since they would require trenching while other cars would not, and it doesn't seem like CP would setup a turn like that and trench it a little to accomodate WW cars. But you never know until they make the press release, so I guess untile then, let the speculation continue.
  • tyandor%s's Photo
^the point is what they otherwise would mean with: 'are you ready for some serious sidewinding?'. If you read it as I do it can't be anything else than wingwalker.
