Looks like I might get sole possesion of first place after tomorrow.
  • riven3d%s's Photo
you must be joking the Seahawks are gonna lose we clutch has LT, the Sd defense and K tonite, they can easily make up the 13 pt difference and have enough of a cushion to hold off Barber, and you havent exactly beat me yet, i do still have 3 players left

Well basically Barber will have to match LT and then a bit....which could happen but isnt likely....And Rivened, your being over-optimistic....Mike's got you beat.
  • riven3d%s's Photo
i know im beat but like i said im not exactly beat yet, until the game ends tomorrow anything is possible, look at Mike's bench he has 2 players that combined for 60 pts, if they would of started then i would say i have no chance.

Key word... I said I "MIGHT" get sole possession of 1st.... but damn you LT.

And I'm up by 50 points and riven3d only has 2 average players left..... and I still have Fred Taylor too.

Yep. I kicked some ass this week. About damn time! Too little, too late, though.

I know this is no excuse for my losing season, but I honestly feel this league is skewed because of the unbalanced stat categories. IMO, the more stat categories there are, the more balanced the scoring will be. The biggest killer is no return yards. How can you accurately measure a defense if you don't count return yards? Same goes for point-per-reception. A receiver should be partly measured by how many catches he gets a game, not just yardage and TDs. And sacks not counting against QBs? I don't know. The whole thing just feels way skewed, which explains why there is so much separation between the first and last place teams. Nothing against ekimmel for setting up the league this way, I just felt like complaining.

I kind of agree with you, JKay. In my private league with my buds, I set it up with a lot more attention to little things, like receivers getting .25 for each reception, which does add up, and especially helps out guys like Kellen Winslow, who are much larger in their offenses than our NE league may show. We also have .1 for every rushing attempt so that backs like Marion Barber and Jones-Drew don't have stats that inflated in comparison with their starting counterparts. (Julius Jones, Fred Taylor)

Of course nothing is perfect, and my private league suffers from an over-emphasis on QBs, which was totally unexpected. This primarily occurs due to the 25 yards/1 point thing we set up...it should have been 30-35/1 point. As a result, Alex Smith has more fantasy points than Marques Colston.

But I do think we should change it up a bit next year. I don't like how pretty much all fantasy football is determined by touchdowns....I think it should be yardage instead.

we should draft earlier, or setup earlier so we have time to work out point scoring and such

    @JKay
I am in 5 leagues this year, and in all 5 of those we DONT have:
    - points lost for sacks
    - points for return yards for defense
    - points for receptions
And there is NOT a huge difference between the upper teams and lower teams in those other leagues. I dont see any reason that the lack of stat categories would make the difference. In fact, I think it was the addt'l W/R starting position that has made the difference. That addt'l position for some people is like a 15 pt bonus every week, and for others its a total waste. Take that away and you will see a more level playing field. EIther that, or have the draft earlier, so we can all get a good bonus player. I know I wasnt at the draft, and I didnt get a single good RB in the draft, so thats part of the reason my team stinks.

Who's got Frank Gore? I would have picked him for sure, I was at the game in HS when he rushed for 419 yards :0
  • ekimmel%s's Photo
I didn't add scoring categories because there's no reason to. Receptions is redundant with yardage (for the most part), sacks are already covered by the defense, and return yards by the defense is redundant with turnovers.

Additionally I don't know why anyone would go against the default scoring categories -- categories that were chosen by experts after years of experience. You let the doctors do the doctoring, programmers do the programming, and you let the fantasy football experts pick your scoring categories. They know best.

^While I understand your argument Rick, I also disagree with it. I don't think those stat categories are redundant. Receptions, for instance. If a WR catches 1 pass for 50 yds and another catches 10 passes for 50 yds, its obvious who's more involved in that offense, and hence the player with more catches should be the more valuable fantasy player. Same goes for return yds. Not only should return yards count for a team defense, they should count for individual players. Example was my Baltimore defense last week; 212 return yards that didn't count for squat, which would've counted for 10.5 pts if we had them. Same goes for sacks on QBs. It seems a bit strange for a QB to get sacked 8 times or whatever a game and NOT be discounted for it.

I don't know. I'm probably just bitter because I'm doing so bad in this league and doing so well in the other league with these stat categories (although it helps having Chad Johnson, Drew Brees & Tiki Barber).

    Play on!
  • riven3d%s's Photo
If we start our draft earlier that would give us time to work out the scoring issues, im sure not everyone would be happy, but im all for more scoring, and yes return yardage is an issue as it has cost me some games, it can mean the difference of winning or losing a game for some of us.
  • ekimmel%s's Photo
You're all welcome to do something else next year. I doubt I'll commish again next year.
  • eman%s's Photo
I can say from experience that Return yards can do a lot more to screw over FF than to make it better/fairer.
  • JKay%s's Photo
    FINALLY!!

too bad i still have little chance of making the playoffs.... :(
  • riven3d%s's Photo
tough week, gotta beat Smut Peddlerz again, and root for Seahawks to win, otherwise it comes down to me having to beat ekimmel to make the top 4, so lol i have to win the last 2 weeks and im in
  • eman%s's Photo
Actually Riv, you're getting a bad deal nomatter which of us wins. Either way, looks like you'll have to win out to have a shot. Likewise for me.
  • riven3d%s's Photo
if i win and you win this week, next week it sets up this lol

    Smut would be out

I beat ekimmel im in, no matter what you do because you would still be 1 game behind me.

if i lose, you win, that sets 4 of us for 1 spot

    ekimmel wins he is in,

if ekimmel loses he is out,

Smut and you are almost tied in points so 1 of you have to win the other must lose. if you both win(doubtful, looking at both your oppenents, i predict you both lose.

so the only sure way is for you to beat ekimmel, if you dont your out.

i must beat Smut and then beat ekimmel,

now if ekimmel and i win whoever wins next week is in.

if ekimmel wins and i lose this week he clinches the last spot and we battle for 5th.

this sucks i could of clinched if i won a game one the last 2 weeks
