I use it to talk to people and keep in contact with people from school and drama and with my family also. Like my cousin who lives in new zealand, then i can see photos of how she and her family is and all that. I use it to talk to my sister and we banter with each other. Facebook isn't for meeting people(for me at least)... Facebook is for contact with people you know...

And also some people use it to arrange events... Which is much better than having to call everyone or email them...

Seriously, what's the point of Facebook, anyway? To meet people you've never met in your entire life (and probably never will meet)

Met lot of people personally via fotolog.com, why wouldn't that be possible via facebook.

http://www.fotolog.c...atuhno/35106023 met her a few days ago and she was surprisingly friendly :)

And, you can even play Tetris on Facebook. Can't get much better than that.

For me, I prefer Myspace by a country mile. I hate the way you can't personalize Facebook like you can Myspace.

I do have a Facebook still. Trav Stone.

Wow. Really, wow. I find it shocking that so many NE members could be on Facebook. Really, it's one thing to be part of a gaming web site (that takes the game very seriously, mind you), but it's another thing entirely to be part of the over-inflated hype that is Facebook.

Seriously, what's the point of Facebook, anyway? To meet people you've never met in your entire life (and probably never will meet), rant about what you do in your spare time, and cyber poke people. At least at NE we actually take pride in our work, and find it a privalege to critique the work of others.

God, I hate Facebook. And Myspace, for that matter.

Actually, rarely ever do people friend random people on facebook. Its used as a tool to further enhance social connections with people you already know.
  • JJ%s's Photo
The only time I friend 'random' people is when it's for games like mob wars, but after i've joined their mob they no longer my friend :p

No. It's for keeping up with friends.

You're in high school still, so you wouldn't know; as soon as you graduate, you will never see half your friends in person again. Of the rest, most will go to school elsewhere or have jobs. And as I understand it, same thing happens after graduating college, changing jobs, etc.

My very best friend, a person I've known for 8 years, is now half a world away. If it weren't for Facebook and such, I'd never be able to speak to her.

So no, I think you've got the wrong idea about social sites.

Let's see, how many people do I actually talk to (at school) on a regular basis...? One... Two... Three... Four... Four and a half... Yep. Four and a half. And half of them I'll never speak to again? Well, that leaves me with two and an eighth. And half of those remaining will disappear after college? That leaves me with one and a quarter. I'll only have one real friend that I'll know throughout my life. That's all I need, so Facebook is worthless to me. (Of course, this excludes the two friends from CA that I e-mail on a regular basis. It also excludes the three people whom I talk to on NE rather often. You know who you are. :D This also excludes my favorite teachers (from my freshman/sphomore years) that I still talk to every now and again. And they won't ever use Facebook.
  • Dr_Dude%s's Photo
I rarely have time to talk to my best friends at school, and I live at least a mile from all of them, so it's nice to have a convenient way to chat with them and send them messages. It also helps meeting more people who I don't normally talk to. So it's your loss if you won't use something because it is 'overhyped'. So are cars, most people still drive them.

EDIT: Xin I don't mean to offend you. I stepped too far out of line there, I fought your fire with an inferno.

Xin, your life is depressing. Four and a half friends? Seriously? Don't chide us for using Facebook, the only reason you see no reason for it is you don't have any friends.

    Sigged.

Also, I'm surprised everyone is getting so worked up over Xin. He just says that shit to sound mature and hopefully make his owner's happy with his greatness (Xin is a lapdog is what I am trying to say), so he always posts all serious these days and anti-Facebook just to sound mature, but winds up with half-dead friends (4.5??) and an idiotic stigma associated with him, and blitz/his other masters aren't even bailing him out right now.

    Free speech? My ass.
  • Midnight Aurora%s's Photo
I have many aquaintences and people I have good times with. How many people would I actually consider real true friends? Less than 20.... Probably less than 15. I met all but one of them after high school, and I'm only 21.

You can all rip on Xin all you want, but he does have a point. I'm Facebook friends with half of my high school, and I haven't seen or talked to any of them since I graduated. (Good ridence)

And really, Kev, I'm only making this post because you asked for one of his "masters" to "bail [him] out." Besides, your high school "friends" make joke facebook accounts about you. Are they playfully ribbing you, or is there some truth behind their attacks? hhmmmm... A question for you to ponder over during sleepless nights.

Free speech is alive and kicking, my friend [aquaintence]. It just sucks when the attack is on you.
  • Kevin Enns%s's Photo
Wow, a MA post I can comment on without totally diagreeing with and utterly hating, this is a good day.

It's true I guess about "true" friends, and, really, you only have one high school "true" friend left? Wow, I still talk to most of my high school friends (I guess I'm still first year uni, but w/e), and I certainly wouldn't say "Good riddance" to them.

Well, MA, you kind of weren't thinking, since you are implying:
    A) You are one of Xin's masters/Xin is your lapdog and
    B) You are bailing him out and
    C) You did so because I thought you would.
So I don't see what you're trying to prove, but, good for you anyways.

No, they made one joke Facebook account about me. They are playfully ribbing me, I am known as a rather right wing person, and people always try to get the better of the other.

I rarely have sleepless nights, I generally sleep 6-7 hours a night unless I'm reading a really enjoyable book or watching several really enjoyable movies.

The only reason I said "Free speech? My ass" is because Xin seems to think he is all free speech, but, like I said, he's a lapdog. Free speech itself seems to be alive and kicking, at this moment in time, at least. And I would rather be attacked (ESPECIALLY in a non-physical, non-damaging way) in a free society than not attacked in a non-free society.

    Peace.

If any Admin or Mod feels that this post is out of line, feel free to edit it, delete it, or suspend my account, or whatever action is necessary.

First, Kevin, I am not MA's lapdog. I do not take orders from him, nor do I try to please him. He's just another member, albeit a funny and down-to-earth member. The only people that have control over me (if you choose to call it that) are posix, CP6, Carl, and geewhzz. They are the admins, and they reserve the right to ban me if necessary. And if you choose to think of things in this manner, then they are your masters as well. And it seems to me that your a lapdog of Christianity. If your pastor (or father, priest, bishop, whatever) told you to jump of a bridge for God, you'd do it. You're the biggest lapdog of all in that you'll believe whatever your religion tells you to believe. You don't have to be an atheist or an agnostic to question the moral fiber of your religion. You claim that my upholding of free speech is diluted by my willingness to serve my "masters." Take a look in the mirror, Kev. What you'll find there is what is commonly refered to as a hypocrite.

Second, I may occasionally kiss ass, but that is necessary to get what I want. (And what I want is to be more involved in the goings-on at NE.) Of course, this applies to anyone and everyone. The only way to get anywhere in life is to kiss ass. How do you think Nikola Tesla introduced his A.C. system to the world? He kissed Thomas Edison's ass. At some point in your life, you will have to kiss someone's ass to get what you want.

Third, I don't expect posix, CP6, Carl, geewhzz, MA, or Blitz to come to my rescue. The Admins do what they do to keep peace in the forums, and MA and Blitz are just voicing their opinions. I voice my opinions, you voice your opinions, and they voice their opinions, same as anybody else. They only time I actually remember someone coming to my rescue was when I disrespected posix, and Kumba tried to defend me. (Even though that was before posix was Admin, my comment was completely out of line.)

Fourth, you claim I act mature and sophisticated to please my "masters." The fact of the matter is, I am mature and rather sophisticated (although that's me talking). There are things that I do in my personal and private life that give credence to a more dignified air (especially when you compare my lifestyle to that of 75% of the people in southern Indiana). And you really have no room to talk, Kevin. You come across as an annoying little brat who tries to act smart on the Internet. Using the word "fuck" in almost every post is a bit immature.

Fifth, the title of friend is a very honorable title, in my dictionary. To be called my friend is something of a privalege, becuase my definition of "friend" is not as loose as you might think. A friend is someone that I care about. If they died or suddenly vanished, I would feel sad. And friend is someone whom I can trust with my life. A friend is someone whom I can loan money to and know that I will be repaid. A friend is someone whom I can share my darkest secrets with, and though they may laugh, I know that the secret will remain safe. Most importantly, a friend is someone who can laugh with me. "Friend" is not a title that is given away to people I talk to. "Friend" is a title that is earned, and that you can be proud of.

Sixth, I have to comment on your putting Dr_Dude's post in your sig. By doing so, it seems to me that you are weak. You look to others for support because you know that you cannot adequately defend your own opinions. You feel some sort twisted pride in the act of making yourself seem larger than I am. You think that by siding with all the people who hate me, you'll gain acceptance at a site where everyone hates you. You feel compelled to shift that hatred from you to me.

Lastly, you say you suck at RCT, yet you make no effort to improve. You simply hang around the forums and pester everyone with your ramblings. It is not you who should feel sorry for me. It is you who should feel sorry for yourself.

people, these sites like myspace and plurspace and facebook etc...

    are just tools.

Your beef with them stems from how you've seen people use them, and your own snap-judgments derived from such experiences. Just because such a thing is not useful to YOU, doesn't mean that it has not seen vital use.

For example, because of facebook, I was able to get in contact with a friend from college I had previously lost contact with. Me and her were going to start up a comic business a long time ago, and that might actually happen now that we are both in contact again.
  • Dr_Dude%s's Photo

You think that by siding with all the people who hate me,

Just to clear things up, I don't hate you.

And also I'd hope Kevin would remove my quote from his sig.
