I am no longer in school
But I did have the time of my life (ok. one of the times of my life then....) studying at University in the 4th biggest town of Holland (Utrecht) with the largest university of this miniature country. Later I went on at Amsterdam University, and finally got my degree in Utrecht again.
Mind you, even the biggest and most well-known of our cities - Amsterdam- does not even have > 1 million inhabitants, including students......but the 4 largest towns here are so close together (each within a 30 minutes distance of each other) that together they do form one big area... -

Sorry for going off topic, but those who live in CA, how hard is it to get in to Stanford. One of the options if I get really lucky (money and other stuff needed). Just curious.. -

Stanford is extremely hard to get into. I live 2 minutes from the place and have experienced firsthand the massive rat-race to be accepted there. For starters, you must be at or very near the top of your class, have excellent standardized testing scores, and do at least a few significant extracurricular activities a year. If you come from a rich family the importance of those things diminishes a bit. Many of my high school classmates got an easy ride into Stanford that way; one has a building named after her family. It will get even harder in the future - there has been growing cynicism about the East Coast Ivy League schools but it has not fixated on Stanford, so Stanford is now apparently like the default great school to apply to.
A couple of random things: you coming from a foreign country may play to your advantage a bit; of the 6 students from my high school admitted Early Action to Stanford, none did not have at least one parent that had gone there, which shows how fucked up the admission process can be in addition to money having such weight; I applied there as a transfer this year and although transferring is a lot harder, Stanford took 20 out of 1,400 students, which was insane.
My friends at Stanford seem to enjoy it a lot, however. If you are interested in California universities I would also look at USC or UCLA, particularly USC if you're interested in engineering, cinema, music, or art, which are better there than at Stanford (not sure about engineering); UCLA is pretty good all around from what I can tell.
As for me: last year, USC; starting this fall, University of Chicago. -

Thank you, but seeing as science interests me the most, Stanford would be the "best" option. I guess.. Requires still a lot of hard work.Edited by w33maniac, 13 June 2007 - 07:07 AM.

If you are interested in science I would check out Caltech and Harvey Mudd both of which have great reputations in the science/engineering field. -
