um.... really... yes they did. No-one had ever blended funk, punk and rap before. I'm not referring to BSSM onwards, have you heard for instance Police Helicopter?

But they sounded horrendous. Flea = excellent bassist technically, yes, but the sounds and tones he picks sound awful. It's like a constant stream of shitty porn funk coming from that guy. Their drummer is pedestrian. Anthony Kiedis...oh man. I loathe all of that guy's babbling nonsense that passes for rap. Jesus Christ. Can't sing for shit, can't rap for shit, and sounds like a retard all the way around. Never mind his dumbass lyrics. Hump De Bump, indeed. John Frusciante is pretty good though, don't know why he wastes his talent on shitty radio rock.

Anyway, Kyuss. Like everything else they produce, I like the music but dislike the vocals. Also, Josh Homme's hair in this clip is great, so that's a bonus point. 5/10.

this city of caterpillar sounds pretty interesting! i'll give it an eight or so.

Kyuss - Hurricane live at the bizarre festival in 95 or so.

    repetitive but rocks hard

holy crap, looped violin, drums, drum machine and processed whistling. amazing

    10/10
  • Jellybones%s's Photo
Actually that whistling was not processed. Andrew Bird is a whistling prodigy.

Asobi Seksu: pretty good, slightly pedestrian, I do prefer my Japanese vocalists to be batshit crazy (like the girl from Deerhoof), and the vocals were too high in the mix. But I enjoyed it. I think that band came through Burlington recently, but uh opening for the Ataris? Ouch. 7/10

Because that song, for some reason, reminded me of this one:

this is the worst thread idea ever.
  • penguinBOB%s's Photo
    agree with the mix.

and uh. he sounds just like a bird then!

that bassist is being sloppy with his fretless (in the first couple of minutes). tidy up man! 9/10, not touching like that other clip, but still a good song. wtf tho, that doesn't make sense it'd remind you.

Act IV: You Don't Need A Witness by The Sound of Animals Fighting.

Didnt really like that guys voice but the guitar solo was cool. 6.5/10

    Sepultura-Inner Self

You know I hate screaming vocals like most people do, but I'll exclude that from my score.

    Standard drums, standard "chugga chugga"

I was waiting the whole time for the inevitable solo, and it was severely limited cliched arpeggios.

    2/10.

And I wanted to be nice :[

Anyways, here is what I beleive to be the best recorded performance ever on guitar.

The first minute was nice, then it started to cheesier and cheesier. Around the 2:30 mark it got unbearably rediculous.
The man can play, I'll give him that though.
2/10 for the song, 9/10 guitar work

Terrible singing, bland melody, drummer was ok but the rest were nothing special...eh. 5/20.

Now, the clip that got me into My Morning Jacket. Too bad it was a bit too late to see the proper shows they did with the Boston Pops.

I don't really like Minus the Bear tho. Why do all the hardcore kids listen to them? It's weird. It's like how retarded metalheads all like Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

That was really good. Lyrically could use a little work though. But aside from that great. 9/10.
