Theme Park Discussion / SFGA & AC Trip Report

My Dad has worked at his job (Working for a big glass company) nfor almost 30 years and done just about every job there from driving a truck to running the place when the bosses are out of town. They ask him to do all the odd jobs and trust him to do pretty much anything. So the CEO asked him to drive his car up to his place in Atlantic City so when he flys up he has his own car. So the plan is to drive the CEO's car (A sweet fully loaded Honda van) up and then at the plant in NJ pick up a company car and drive it back. During the course of this "Work" my Dad always takes some time off to play some poker. He asked me to go and I was like "Ah, why not? let's go"

So on the mourning of the 21st we got in the van at the ungodly hour of 6:30 am and headed up. At noon we had just entered Georgia, then North Carolina around 3 or 4, Washisngton DC around 7 and after some bad traffic there Kent's Narrows Maryland. I doubt any of you guys have ever heard of the place, I had not, but my Dad insisted on it. It's a really nice marina kinda town on the eastern shore of Maryland and we got a sweet at the Hilton they have there for only $109 that night due to them being nearly booked by this wedding party which gave us lots of hot brides maids to check out :)

The next day we got up and drove to the plant to pick out the other car and we had to split some of the driving. I told him I really wanted to go to SFGA if we could and he said we could. After a long debate on how to do that and go to AC that day we started to drive to Jackson around 1:30 and got to the park at 3.

Even tho it was a Friday I thought there was a good chance the place would not be to crowded. Just as I would discover throughout the day my SF assumptions were wrong. My Dad and I snapped a few pics of the rides from the parking lot and then made our way to the entrance. My Dad is a pretty heavy guy with an impressive gut and just can't enjoy a ride on a roller coaster (I did get him to go on Raptor at CP tho). When we got to the ticket window and found out that it coasts $60+ to get in he said he'd be ok waiting for me outside the entrance, so grudgingly I paid the fee.

I contacted Ryan "ChillerHockey33" before leaving on the trip so I could swing by his ride say hi and get on with no wait. So I headed to Chiller first. "Wow no line at all! I hope I can get on everything this fast." was my thought when I saw the Chiller Q empty. A ride op was standing at the entrance and said "Sorry, ride closed" and informed me that it had broken down. I asked to see Ryan anyways, but he was on a brake.

Pissed off I decided I would need to ban ChillerHockey33 as soon as I got home, but until then I was still at SFGA and wanted to ride Medusa, Nitro and Superman so I can say that I have ridden all 7 types of the B&M, something I doubt anyone else at this site can say. So I made my way over to Nitro as it was the closest and waited on the Q for about 45 mins. The nice thing about waiting is you can examine the coasters details. I have still not seen a really good chin return in any RCT park so I focused on that and snapped this picture:

I expected a pretty good ride on Nitro, nothing beats B&M's when it comes to a smooth clean ride. I also remember really enjoying Magnum XLC at CP from my trip there in 2000. The air-time was really sick, amazing ride. It's hard to say after only ridding it once, but it may have been my best ride ever and it was worth the wait.

After about an hour I went back to see if anything had changed with Chiller on my way to the other side of the park to do the other B&Ms. I saw people in line in front of the the Q. At the entrance gate I spotted Ryan and walk up near him and said "Hey let me in exit already" I don't think he recognized me off the bat, but then I shook his hand and said it was Darren "Kumba" from NE. We talked a little as people bugged him with questions about the brakedown. One young child said he had 2 questions and after about 3 mins nervously asked both of them to the ride op that must surely know Batman and Robin personally. I told Ryan that kid was MachChuck and I think he believed me for a second. He asked if I had talked to Phatage, however I had not, but I did PM him my cell number just in case.

After my long wait on the Nitro Q and the fact that my Dad was siting at the entrance waiting for me I asked Ryan if he could hook me up with some fast passes for the final 2 coasters on my list. He was unsure, but ran down his supervisor and got me 2. I thanked him and had another ride op take this picture to document one of the smallest NE meets ever:

I headed for Superman next really wondering exactly how it will feel to be "flying" I mean it looks really weird when you see pictures of it. I did not exactly get a fast pass from Ryan, it was an "up the exit pass" and literly go me on the ride with 0 wait. So next I was hooked in and lifted back in my "Flying position" up the lift hill I could not resist trying to spit on one of the supports, hehe... The ride was great, I loved the short second at the bottom of the pretzel loop where it feels like your laying in bad on your back. When the ride pulled in to the final station brakes I looked down at the platform and saw more spit splitters then I have ever seen, a site so gross I spit out of revulsion towards these thoughtless pricks.

On the way out I decided to buy my on-ride photo. The cheapest I could get was $12.95 and I asked the girl who sold it to me why SF had gotten so expensive? "We need to compete with Disney World" she said. I decided to just say "oh ok" when I was really wondering if she could have given a worse reply. Oh heres a picture of your second AmazingFlyingWebmaster:

So next it was onto Medusa which took me through the golden kingdom. The area was really impressive and I got a great shot of El Toro, Kingda Ka and that steel mine train kinda coaster thats name escapes me...:

Medusa was good, I was not that excited to ride it being I have been on Kumba so many times and the layout uses the same elements and it being a floorless felt like a boring trick after the flight I just had. After a nice ride (Altho every B&M cobra roll I have ever been on rattles my head) I got a nice snapshot and decided to make my way out of the park to need my Dad.

    My Medusa pic:

On the way out I could not help trying a couple carny style basketball games. They really are a challenge considering the fact that they are fixed and coast an arm and a leg. The hoop is about a foot radius and the ball is 11 inches of so much air it feels like a cement block. The only way you can make the shot is to shot with a really high arc and pray. I did one shot on each, but both popped out and I lost like $20 trying to win some of the ugliest piece of shit prizes I have ever seen.

I meet my Dad at the entrance and asked him how things were and what he did for 3 hours. To my suprise he said he was perfectly happy sitting there playing his hand held Yahtzee game (Which he takes everywhere and even colored one black to pass it off as a calculator at work, that idea would have worked, but for the fact that from time to time he'd jump up and scream "yes!" while crunching the numbers for the company.) long with that he was busy checking out all the hot chicks and wishing he was my age. He does that everywhere, but has a bad habit of actually pointing at them and looking really weird and creepy...

So anyways we then left and got into AC at about 7 that night. We had a room at the Red Roof Inn for Friday and Saturday nights, but also had a room at the Trump Taj Mahal for Sunday and Monday on my Dad's poker rate ($60 a night as opposed to the standard $310!!!). So we check into the room and looked at each other, took a split second to decide to leave and decide to go to a casino... rather then stay at Red Roof Inn in NJ.

Having never been to the Brogta I really wanted to go there, so we did. Can't be hard to get there right? Wrong, they basically hide the whole casino so tourist can't find it. If you don't believe me you try getting in. To top it off there is no free parking anywhere near the place, it's a $5 flat rate. The room is by far the biggest I have ever seen and I got on a list to play 2-4 limit hold'em. Next thing I know they ask me to go to a seat and I do and take out my money ($140). I buy-in and then watch the blines get posted, $1 and $2, then I see a player raise to $10... they put me in a no-limit game... fuck.

It's not like I am bad at no-limit, in fact I am pretty good at it, but it's not a profitable game, one second best hand and it can be all over. I started out good and won the first 2 or 3 hands I played, but then I got 77. There was a small rasie that I called then the flop came out: 8s 7c 4s. I am only beat by someone with 88 right? Small bets... guy to my right bumps it up by $30 or something. "Im all in" I say. If he's got the 88's I guess im fucked *shrug* he turns over 5c 6c. FUCK!!!!!!! I never even thought about the straight possibility. I lost all my money right there with a near perfect hand. That finished me off for the day and my Dad also did poorly in a 3-6 game and we went back to the room and got some sleep.

Next day we debated, Tropicana vs. Harrah's but my bid for Harrahs won out. This time I made sure I got put into a limit game and within 10 mins I cracked it and endded up doubling the $100 I bought in with. As is the case in most real casinos your playing old folks and some are really disturbed by how us young kids play. I was check raising the pants of these old timers because they are very esay to read. One women started mocking me and getting very upset with every raise I made. "He must think he's a big man" she said at one point and I just laughed. At one point I just kept showing her that I had some powerful cards, I flipped over pocket kings at one point and said "Do you mind if I make a big bet with this?". So yeah I played my A game and won big, got a little lucky too :)

So now I was about even for the trip and we spent our last night at the Red Roof Inn. Next mourning we packed our shit up and were at the Taj at 11:00am. Walking into the Taj I got on the waiting list for 2-4 hold'em again. This would turn out to be a very bad idea. I lost half of my $200 buy-in after only about 20 hands. Then I asked if I could change tables. They only had an open seat at 1-2 NL. "We I need to double up" second hand I played I lost all my chips, however it was more due to a guy making a stupid ass call. I should quit now, im down $200, but no, I play again since our room won't be ready for another few hours. I played a little better, but still it was only 2-4 limits so im in there trying to every flop and playing like the tourist I am. I lose again, so now im $300 in the whole and I final give up.

My Dad was playing 5-10 Omaha Hi-Low and won a good bit, so I watched him play until we checked in. The room was awesome and I decide to try and rest and watch a movie rather then go back down and play poker when I barely had any money left. I watch night at the Musume and it came close to replacing National Treasure as my favorite ever. Now what I had to do is decide what my next move is. I am going to play poker for broke, but witch way to go... Big cash game, like 10-20 or 20-40 limits... or play some tournaments? Seeing as tournaments are way more affordable I decided to try that. They have 3 a day at the Taj and I did one at Midnight. I won some small pots but made the near fatel mistake of re-raising another player when I was on a draw (tho I was on an open end straight flash draw!) and lost a big pot. Then I had 22 and said fuck it, im all in. I was called by a guy with AQ and the flop-turn-river came: 8QQ-A-A. Did he really need to have his hand get that good? Shit, that hurt... so ended the worst day of poker in my life, I was in the whole almost $400...

Next day I decide to try more tournaments rather then go to the atm and put a ton into a cash game like I did a few years ago in Tunica (I manged to win $43 in a 10-20 game, lol). I had enough of the Taj and decided to go back to Harrhas and got in a nice little tournament. I started out by crippling some poor guy who mis-read his hand and then won a few more pots just pushing players around with my big stack. After a while my cards cooled down and I moved all-in on a Queen high flash draw, who should call med? the guy with the Ace high draw of course and im out on my ass... again.

So down I am down really low, infact I was out of money, I had only brought $400 for thr whole trip. Over at the Taj my Dad manged to hit a Royal straight flash and guess what billionaire tycoon Donald Trump give you for a Royal straight flash, the only unbeatable hand in poker! A 2 person pass for free food at the buffet. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!? Places down here will give you $500 or more for that! Trump is a cheap bastard, or at least his casino is... :@

So anyways I had my Dad promise me he'd play a tournament and we both entered the midnight one. Helping me get in was the fact that I turned $10 into $110 on a roulette wheel an hour before it started. I played my Mom and Dads numbers, 10 and 28 and managed to hit both in 3 spins. In the tournament (another midnight one) I got into a zone where I could just feel what everyone else had and know I was right and win. I built a good sized chip lead over the table in about a half hour and then this hand came up. I have KJ, rasie per-flop and 2 guys call. The flop is Ks 10s 9d, the first guy checks and the second guy goes all in. Most people fear an all-in move, but I am not sure why it's so scary. Most of the time a player is going all in to get the other players to fold, or in other words trying to protect their hand. I see his bet as a protective all in and to his surprise I call him. He turns over a K8, I was right! I have him by the balls and should win a monster pot! Well until he gets a 6 on the turn and a 7 on the river giving him a fucking straight. After that lose I got cold cards and was knocked out by pocket jacks about a half hour later. After this lose I put my remaining $45 in a cash game and played like I wanted to lose all my money, which I did :(

Me after my only winning session (someone should really tell someone when they button their shirt that way, infact I also took off my undershirt and had it over my shoulder before the pic was taken). Good thing I don't have any pics from the losing ones! :p

So I played shitty poker and lost all my money. Well the good new is that last month I managed to win a tournament and close to $1,000, so that win made this trip put me at where I was before that mega win, and before that I was up anyways. The moral... Don't play games that are below you. I am a really good player and was dicking around with low limit games when I showed have played limits so high that I would be afride to play like an ass, play right and win big money.

My Dad also did poorly for the trip, tho not as bad as I did. Our read back to Miami was nice and we even ate at a cracker barrel in SC to make it an official road trip.

So thats what I did the week or so I was gone for. Next time I go I'll try to plan a better NE meet and not play retarded poker.

Poker footnote: Today at my local place I played a tournament flawlessly, won money and placed 6th of 50 after being knocked out by some guy's lucky 76

The El Toro/Kingda Ka/Mine Train photo is gorgeous. Nice half-TR! Your dad kinda reminds me of what might happen if George Lopez and John Goodman merged into one person. :p

    Cool stuff tho.

Sounds like it was a cool trip, it must be fun to get to meet up with other people from NE. I've still never met a fellow member.

So you ended up going on the 22nd? I was there that Friday too, only I got there around 130, rode BTR first, then headed over to ET and Medusa, then left around 530. I thought you might have been there and was looking around for you but its impossible to find anyone in a park that large and crowded. Also I wasnt sure you were going to make it up from FLA so fast and I thought you might be going to play poker first.

But anyway you really should have rode El Toro while you were there, its really the best ride in the park now, and who knows when youll be back, but I can understand you didnt want to keep your poor old dad, who looks like a mobster BTW , waiting outside playing his hand held card game.

Also, Ive been to the Borgata, its not that hard to get to ;)
