(Archive) Advertising District / Large Helix Project

This project came from some experimentation I was doing with terrain wooden coasters to help improve my lacking coaster skills. I was working on a coaster that cruises in and out of a small ravine when I made this huge helix that was way to big for the coaster I was working with. I quickly upped the scale of the project to a huge woodie that would cruise over and into a large canyon. This brought more thoughts of a station attached to the canyon wall, elevators moving up and down the sides, and a restaurant inspired by a (somewhat) nearby eatery called the Caveman BBQ (yes it is in a cave).

The coaster (still to be named) is pretty huge. Its top speed is 67 mph and an overall length just under 8800 feet and in that length are 22 drops the highest of which is 121 feet (there are two more that are just under this though). Its unthemed stats are roughly EX- 6.8 INT- 10.8 NAU- 6.6. I'm guessing the high intensity is due to the fact that wooden coasters aren't meant to be so tall or long in rct since it paces fine.

Anyway, on to the screens:



Hopefully a little better shot of the helix. Still very unfinished.. the landscaping needs to be cleaned up, foliage, custom supports, more headchoppers, etc. Also a very little glimpse of some of the rest of the layout.



A quick shot of the station. Still some work to do with it. It's a little blocky I know, but I'm working on it. More experimenting with the stacked fences obviously. I'm debating wheather or not to have peeps be able to ride the coaster (with a que straight from a park entrance) which is why the ride entrance and exit are still there. The tower is going to be the exit elevator back to the canyon floor that guests go down after they exit the coaster. It's going to be surrounded by glass walls I'm just not sure what color yet. I'm worried any more white or blue will make it too repetitive... any ideas?

And what's the theme you ask? Well there really isn't one. It's mostly just going to be natural landscaping and foliage and a large coaster. It's not really supposed to be a coaster in the middle of nowhere either but the Design setup gives off that impression. I guess you could call it a more modern take on some of the classic ravine coasters from the Golden Age of rollercoasters back in the day.

oh man at first i thought this was rct2 and was like "oh man don't do it" but then realized what it was and felt better.

you really need to finish something awesome, you've got hell of potential to be amazing.

I cant even comprehend how long it must have taken you to make that station. Thats taking the stacked fences to the extreme.

As tracid said, you really need to get something finished. You have all these new hacks and ways to use LL they just need to be put to use in a finished product. I really hope you can finish this because its really caught my eye at the moment.

You deserve something just for sheer effort. I'm no LL expert, but i can tell that must have taken some time.

It's a good design but I don't really see a helix.

Thanks for the comments guys. And actually the station didn't take very long at all. I think it took only about an hour or two of wall stacking which really isn't that bad. Once you develop a system and know where stuff should go it goes a lot faster.

Oh and Tornado6... look at the first screen a little closer. It is a little tough to spot I guess .

I can't say much about the first screen, apart from the fact it's damn huge.
But I really like that station. With all the details inside like those fences is great. And I love how how the station is hanging there at the cliff. However I'm not sure about that Freefalltower-thing.

It has no atmosphere

Kumba, I shouldn't react because I know it's you and I know you're just joking but just the fact that you had to say something like that irritates me to no end. Seriously, get over it man. Your park was very nice and earned Spotlight and to me that should be enough for you. Instead you had to have 100% of the comments praising your work and when you didn't get that you had to act like a jackass. Now if you want to post something constructive like I know you can please do, but if you're going to say bullshit like this stay the fuck off my topic.

Oh and would you mind giving me some examples of better work than mine? Otherwise you don't have a case to talk about my park like that and I don't have to listen to you at all because you're so far below me.

Whatever, imo you insulted my park, so don't expect me to get over it so esay. I am looking froward to your work none the less, I like the layout and time you must have put into that station.

However as of right now your screens atmospheres are crap compare to my solos

Insulted your work? Where the hell is that from? I merely told you what I thought of it and gave some advice on it. I never said... "this is shit" "it sucks" "your work is terrible" or anything like that. THAT is insulting your work and I think your work is good and comments like that are unecessary so I don't see how I can be accused of it. If your going to make something and then have it posted for the general public to see, you have to understand that not everyone is going to like it and not every comment that isn't blind praise is an insult to your work.

What all this comes down to is that I (but I was not alone in this) didn't think your park was so fantastic even though I thought it was some damn good work. You don't like this. Other people who said pretty much the same stuff I did (namely Turtle and Blitz) are people you can't bash due to their respected positons and rct work. So you pick the 15 year old LL player to set your example of what happens when people don't like your work because I'm the easy target. Like I said get over it... there was nothing there for you to be offended by so I don't see why you are. Stop lashing out at nothing.

Oh and my request for examples stands. After all, you demanded some from me.
And your own work doesn't count.


And I find it funny how you post how it relates to YOUR parks and YOUR works and how much better YOUR stuff is... Jesus Christ stop thinking you have to defend your position of amazingness from people trying to outdo you and just accept the work for what it is. You can be assured that I had no thought of being better than your precious parks when I built this. My work is for me and me alone... my question to you is what are yours for? To me they seem to be for a person with a constant need for adoration and respect and when you don't get that you whine and carry on about how offended you are.

My major problem with this park was that, while fun to look at, the themes just had no depth to them imo.

After talking to OLE on AIM and thinking about it... it's a disagreement between us and that should not mean he loses his mod spot, so I have given it back and once again proved that I suck at thinking...

And I'll apologize for my last post... it was out of line. Though I don't think I was out of line until then... I just don't think my opinion should piss you off so much and is mine to cherish.
