Finally, some artists I can relate to! Blue Oyster Cult especially, I love the solo from that song. I also like Metallica's Master of Puppets and Iron Maiden's Clairvoyant. Alice Cooper's Welcome To My Nightmare has to be my all-time favorite though.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Eruption by Van Halen

    Top Ten:

    1. Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd (Of course, and the live versions are even better, favorite being from PULSE)
    2. All Along The Watchtower- Jimi Hendrix (Perfect blend of wah wah)
    3. Stairway To Heaven- Led Zeppelin (Magical ending to a terrific song)
    4. Eruption- Van Halen (The grand daddy of them all)
    5. Bullet The Blue Sky-U2 (Simple, but powerful, amazing live)
    6. Another Brick In The Wall Part 1- Pink Floyd (The whole song is really a guitar solo, and the emotions just drip off the notes)
    7. Bulls On Parade- Rage Against The Machine (Again, simple, but all of his techniques are great)
    8. Money- Pink Floyd (Who doesn't like Dark Side?)
    9. Achilles Last Stand- Led Zeppelin (Robert Plant's voice and a guitar solo, lovely)
    10. Shine On You Crazy Diamond- Pink Floyd (Shine on Syd, shine on)

I could add Freebird somewhere in there.

It's great because not only is it technically sound (a good mix of techniques) it also provokes people into spontaneous air guitar. There's no question that there are a lot of solos out there that are technically better but they don't evoke the kind of emotion and spontaneity that Eruption does. And don't forget the historical significance. It's possible that someone else would have invented those techniques and made them popular but you can't deny how much of an effect it had on rock guitar. Virtually every one of the current shredders and GIT alums will cite Eddie as an influence.

I'll throw Freebird and Cream's White Room solos into the mix here.

Even if you don't like the music, anyone who doesn't mention Stairway To Heaven in their post doesn't deserve to post in here.

I don't particularly like the music, but the solo is beyond phenominal.
