Xin, isn't it Chinese Democracy? I don't even listen to that kind of music, and I saw it was Democracy in the store. Whatever. -

I really didn't get into much new stuff this last year. First time since 05' I can say that. Back then it was because I was fucking ignorant. Now it's because I'm really busy and the bands and releases I was interested in mostly failed to meet my exceptions. In many cases YouTube helped me avoid wasting my money. Really the two albums released 2008 that I've listened to and enjoyed the most both came from local bands (B&G sides by The Hard Lessons, Olly Oxen Free by Mason Proper) that I saw live and picked up the album there.
Besides that I've discovered the National, The Stone Roses, the Minutemen, and countless others, while my appreciation of artists like Okkervil River, Modest Mouse, and Radiohead has only continued to deepen. 2009 certainly has the potential to be a milestone year in music. The Strokes, The Flaming Lips, The Von Bondies, the Appleseed Cast, U2, Pearl Jam, Muse and Wilco are all rumored to be working on new material that *could* be released in '09. If half of those manage satisfying releases in this year or the next I will be relieved. Right now I've lost faith in a lot of bands (*cough* Bloc Party *cough*).
