Just four short days til we kickoff, and I can't wait.

Me neither, Alabama plays VT. I really can't tell who'll win this one. I'm gonna say Alabama, I think VT was overrated this year, and 'Bama always has an OK team.
  • Buckeye Becky%s's Photo
    ^Agreed...Alabama all over VT

    In other news:
Michigan Players Obviously do not like their coach

    Thoughts, ride6?

    So, I hear USC has a rookie QB...awesome :|
and I checked and Ohio State is 6-2 in home games at night, but on a two-game losing streak with a loss to Texas and last year's loss to Penn State......and I'm SURE we WILL NOT go three in a row...

I cannot wait until this weekend...and I hope to GOD that the Buckeyes aren't looking ahead to USC AND lose to Navy...how humiliating would that be?

Can't believe its only 6 days til the first Saturday, this past month has been agonizingly long. Looking forward to watching the Sooners D-Line tee off on Max Hall.

This is actually a great opening weekend compared to some of the recent ones. Ok State/Georgia, Va Tech/Bama, and OU/BYU are all ranked matchups along with a ranked Thursday night game in Oregon/Boise. Even some decent post Saturday games. Colorado/Colorado State is always entertaining, same with Florida State/Miami. I can't wait for the five day football binge.

Yeah, Matt Barkley. First true freshman to ever start the season at SC but, this kid is more polished than most upperclassmen. Starred at Mater Dei, which is perennially THE high school football program in So Cal if not the entire state (possibly the nation). MD's program is also as close to a college system as you'll find so, the transition isn't as radical as it might be coming out of another school. I've seen this guy play at Mater Dei and he's amazingly talented. The local HS beat writer here says that he's the most college football ready freshman he's ever seen in his 20-odd years of covering HS football (including Matt Leinart, Carson Palmer and Mark Sanchez) and even Pete Carroll himself says he's never seen a kid adapt to the USC system as quickly as Barkley has. Plus, Carroll doesn't typically ask his QB to carry the run-oriented offense so, Barkley won't have to become Joe Montana overnight. Only time will tell but I don't think anyone here is real worried about a freshman starting at QB considering that the freshman is Matt Barkley . Although, it would have been nice for him to get a few games under his belt before having to face OSU.

Yeah, VT is perennially overrated. I'm a little pissed off that I have class during our pep rally on Wednesday, and then I have to rush over to tailgating when I get out on Thursday. Laaaaame. But I'm pumped. It's been a while since there was this much excitement over a home game, which was probably the 2006 FSU game. No doubt the stadium will be rocking, just like it was that Thursday night. If you get a chance Thursday night, flip the game on, because it could be a good one.

NC State - So. Carolina is pretty ugly so far, but a good hold over until the Boise St. - Oregon game tonight, it's probably going to be going into the 40s at least
  • chapelz%s's Photo
anyone else find it funny that graham harrell won at&t player of the year and then went undrafted and is now in the cfl?
  • gir%s's Photo
Just got back from the game--what a fucking pathetic performance. Here at NC State, we sure know how to flop on opening night, and for that matter, most of the season. On top of that, I have homework to do now.

    HOW ABOUT THEM AMAZIN' BUCKEYES:]]

    lol barely beating NAVY?

you guys are a real national contender!

haha just kidding, no hard feelings.
they're a decent team, but i just think they're just a tad bit overrated.

play someone from the SEC and see how bad you'll get messed up!

My thoughts on the past week. This may be a really long post.

    NC-SCar:
-The fact that the officials were SEC officials sucked. Russell Wilson looked slow on decision-making. Defense played good., looked kinda sloppy towards the end though. Receivers need to CATCH the ball. Way too many dropped passes. Decent start to the NCAA football season though. A packed Carter-Finley at least showed the nation we're proud of our football team. Expect NC State to show up in a bowl game the last week of December or first week of January.

    Oregon-Boise St:
With BSU winning easily, they're bound to go 15-0 with no real opponents on their schedule. Even if they run the table, they're not BCS worthy to me because they didn't prove themselves. With the loss of Blount because of a bonehead move, Oregon is pretty much done for the season. However, the Broncs will end up playing in late December.

    Navy-Ohio St:
As a Navy fan, I'm impressed they kept up with the Buckeyes, and almost won. I didn't watch the game, but OSU's INT in OT was the crucial blow for the Mids. Expect both Navy and OSU to be playing in December.

    Iowa-UNI:
Wow, the Hawkeyes almost lost the game. 2 blocked field goals saved them though. Hawkeyes may be poised to upset PSU again this year, but it will be a challenge. I don't expect either of these teams to do much. Iowa won't be a big factor in the Big 12, but could end up playing spoiler.

    Nevada-ND:
The Irish needed a big win against the Wolfpack's high-powered offense, and they got just that. ND has to keep winning though is Weis wants to be sure he'll be in South Bend for a long time. Manti Te'o is a beast and will continue to be a force to reckon with for the Irish defense. Biggest game for ND is going to be against USC, but Weis and the Irish have to take it one game at a time.

    Georgia-OKST:
Finally, two ranked teams. Big 12 offense vs. SEC defense. Georgia did a good job keeping the Cowboys under 30 points. Georgia has a long road ahead of them in the SEC, while OKST needs to keep scoring to compete in the Big 12. One of the more exciting games of the week.

    BYU-Oklahoma:
Max Hall looked decent for the Cougars. Bradford was on top of his game for the time that he played. With the score only 10-7 at the half, I think this still could have gone either way if Bradford didn't have to leave the game. The Sooners play two cupcake games and a bye week, which gives Bradford plenty of time to rest. I expect the Cougars to end up in a bowl last week of December/first week of January.

    Alabama-VT:
Probably the most hyped game of the week, I was glad to see a good game between these two teams. With the ACC being the "basketball conference," and a bunch of ACC losses already, VT needed to step up and win the game. They definitely showed they are capable of playing on the same level as Alabama. The Hokies defense did a pretty good job of stopping Julius Jones from getting a bunch of huge plays. However VT's O-Line quit in the 4th quarter causing huge problems for Tyrod Taylor.

    MD-Cal:
MD lost 30 seniors this year, and theyre only star player returning was RB Da'rell (sp?) Scott. Cal was looking for revenge (and easily got it) after the Terps impressive win last year at home, which came after a 7-0 win over Delaware and a loss to MTSU. Jahvid Best and Cal's other running back (I forget his name) just tore up the Maryland defense, along with the Bears QB. Maryland is a young team, but won't do much in the ACC, while Cal may be the team to be Barkley and the Trojans.

    MIA-FSU:
This is a tough start for both teams, but moreso for the Noles. FSU is a young team, who relies on the speed of their receivers for their offense. Jacory Harris will shine against FSU's defense. Look the Canes to go home with a 15 point win, and be 1st in the ACC. The Canes will be fighting VT for the top of the Coastal divison (gir correct me if I'm wrong on the divison).

    Some more general notes:
-Penn St, Florida, USC, UNC, Nebraska, and Kansas started off with nice wins over cupcake schools.
-GT is still having trouble holding onto the ball (5 fumbles) running Paul Johnson's triple option offense.
-Greg Paulus starting for Syracuse? It's a great move for all of the Oranges' athletic programs, and he almost won after not picking up a football since 2004.
-Les Miles and the Tigers beat UW, but probably should have scored more points.
-It will be interesting to see how Kentucky fairs in the SEC after a nice win over Miami (OH).
-WVU needs help with White and Slaton gone. They beat Liberty (whose starting QB is Beecher who started for the SCar opener last year). They are no longer going to be the powerhouse of the Big East.
-BC's new head coach started with a nice win over Northeastern, but will face some challenges in the ACC.
-Spiller's injury against MTSU doesn't seem serious, and ACC defenses will once again have a hard time stopping the Clemson RB.
-Speaking of the ACC, they finished 4-6 in non-conference games, and with the Miami-FSU game Monday, the best they will finish the week 5-7. Obviously, the ACC is not a football conference.

    EDIT: Yeah pg 2!!!

Season is just a bit too early to be trash talkin there In:Cities...and I can't even dish it back to you since I have no idea who your team is...although I'm guessin SEC...

We do not defend against the triple option very well, that's a fact and Navy runs that better than any other team. I still think we have a really good shot at USC.

  • Dark_Horse%s's Photo
Wow. Didn't even notice that you weren't talkin to me BB. Btw, my teams are Navy and NC State. And yes, the Mids are textbook triple option players.

Last night was the Rocky Mountain Showdown where the Colorado State University (CSU represent!) beat University of Colorado at Boulder (CU) with the final score of 23 - 17. Needless to say, here in Fort Collins after the game it was one massive party whereas Boulder (where the game was held this year instead of the usual Mile High Stadium in Denver) was probably completely trashed. Definitely a great start for our season here...all the money CSU is pouring into football and new training facilities might actually be paying off this year.

it was a great weekend texas won and ou lost.

lol college football is no fun to watch if theres no trash talkin' going on!;]

    i'm a gator/hurricane fan though.

half my family went to UF, and the other half went to UM, so i like both.
but if it came down to them playing eachother, i'm more of a canes fan.

so yes, you can trash talk the canes all you want, because we've been a pretty horrible team as of late lol.

i just strongly dislike your buckeyes because of that 02 game!!
so thats why i came down like that.
any chance i get to trash the bucks, i run with it haha
  • RCTNW%s's Photo
    Go Huskies!!!!!

Yes I know they got beat but they looked a hell of a lot better than last years joke.

If we can pull of 5 wins this year, I'll be happy
  • Buckeye Becky%s's Photo
Nice writeup dark horse! However, Iowa is in the Big 10, not the Big 12....and WV is not the big powerhouse in the Big East because Cincinnati is going to rule that conference...that Rutgers game was a blowout...and to think the analysts thought this was Rutgers year...

You can trash talk all you want In:Cities and just a bit of advice...I'd stick with the Gators if I was you...why be a loser, and a sore one at that...I mean we are talking seven years ago pal.

Michigan is gonna do better this season than last year. I was at the Western Michigan game and it was a big difference in playing than last year. I don't think they'll do well against Penn State or Ohio State, but at least they'll do better.
