When Guitar Hero 1 first came out I thought everyone looked ridiculous playing. Somewhere before Guitar Hero 2 came out my roommates at the time got the game on PS/2 and I eventually tried it. It's a lot of fun. I haven't played it in over a year now, but I have all except Guitar Hero 2 for PS/2. Through the fire and flames is insane, I never passed it on expert. I did beat all the main songs on expert, I don't know about the bonus songs. I think the fact that I played the violin and viola growing up helped my guitar hero coordination. So it did help with something after all!

Good luck on through the fire and flames!

In my opinion, Rock Band is a better game overall. It's a lot more manageable than three is. But I definitely loved 2.

GH3 is my favorite. World Tour doesn't have as good of a song list as 3 does. I also have the Aerosmith one, which is pretty good, too. I've only beat TTFAF on Medium, but the rest of the songs on expert. =)

I have 1, 2, 3, and 80's Edition. I've beaten all career songs on expert, but I can only do Through The Fire And Flames on hard. That song is pure insanity. Anyone who is able to beat that song is either really good, or has no life at all.

I kinda fazed out of GH after Rock Band came out. It turned into a competition between two companies, there were a lot of song similarities, and Rock Band's songs weren't very good. So I stopped playing altogether.

I say if you really want to be a "Guitar Hero", get a real guitar.

Kingdom Hearts, on the other hand... God I can't wait for 358/2 Days! Is it September 29th yet?

This kid at my school beat that song on expert, and just as you said, has no life at all.

I have GH3 for my Wii, but I WANT WANT WANT GH:Metallica ^^
    Well... money... >_>

But I still have more fun playing the real guitar. Which is kind of relieving ;)

I played a lot of GH2 on PS2, and eventually got GH3 for my Wii. I much preferred the song list for GH2, but I haven't had the time or interest lately to get any of the others in the series. I probably will later.

Ok, I have a question. I'm gonna get either GH or RB for my kids. We have Wii. So, which one is better....I've read some reviews on both about ease of play and the noise that the two actually make (as far as my neighbors are concerned) and, I'm leaning towards RB.

But, I don't really know shit about either except what I've read and, naturally, both games press is gonna be heavily favored towards their product.

BTW, I'll be getting whatever the latest release/version is and I also want to get into playing this myself....even though I realize it's nothing like playing real instruments so, I probably won't be as impressive to my kids as I was the first time they saw me actually play with a band.

Also, my kids are 19 & 15, both female and have rather expansive tastes in music. Plus, my 15 YO is in drum corp at her HS so, she's definitely musically inclined.

rock band is way better. because it's made by harmonix, who made guitar hero 2. i bought gh3 and was mad disappointed with it, but i bought rock band and it owned. activision killed guitar hero.

A drummer, plus wide music taste? Rock Band.

The drum kit (if you get the Rock Band 2 kit) is substantially better, and theres quite literally a shit-ton of songs available on DLC.

Go with Rock Band, K0NG. I really havent been too crazy about the newer Guitar Hero games for the same reason tE mentioned.

I personally prefer Guitar Hero because the songs are harder for guitar. Rock Band was way to easy to beat on expert. I didn't even break a sweat on the last song. Plus, GH has the Metallica Edition, and Metallica is always good. I'd choose Metallica over The Who any day of the week.

So for me: GH > RB

EDIT: And you have kids? And you're not teaching them about the wonderful world of RCT? If I had kids, I'd tell them bedtime stories of how I defeated the legendary RRP in the Micro Madness. And I'd tell them of the wonderful world of WWAP, and how it was the most beautiful thing any mortal could lay eyes on. And I'd tell them about the almighty posix, who defeated the evil Kumba and brought peace to New Element. And everybody lived happily ever after. Except Kevin.

I can't play GH/RB, it sort of ruins the songs for me. I can't even listen to Wave of Mutilation any more.

Plus, in the time some people invest in it they could learn a real instrument.

Yeah dude, GH2 is easily my favorite game I've ever owned. I can't really put my finger on it, but it was so much more fun than the next two. I thought the song selection in GH3 was pretty good, too. It sucked in World Tour, though. Oh well.

But yeah, I always hate the "play a real instrument" comments. That's like saying, "You play a lot of CoD, why don't you enlist in the army?" One is a game, and one is real life. To draw a comparison is just wrong.

And did anybody else waste hours and hours of their lives trying to beat Jordan (GH2) on expert? What a beast of a song that was. Funny though, I can beat that thing with ease now. Oh well...I would have wasted my time doing something else stupid anyway.
  • Goliath123%s's Photo
Haha yeah go join the army, get shot then complain.

Jordan was and still is a fricken beast man, one of the hardest songs. I'd rank it with raining blood and ttfaf

Yeah, I tell them bedtime stories every night of the joys of Belmont Shores and of the evil ERROR TRAPPER that caused dad to fail miserably in the H2H5 Finals. Maybe when I get a couple things wrapped up and submitted, the stories won't have them waking up screaming in the middle of the night.."NO!!!! I'M K0NG'S KID!!!! RCT SUCKS!!!"

And, I'm smart enough to NEVER mention Kevin to them. They'd never even check my screens anymore if I did. Just the association. I mean, they already have to LIVE with Mr Fuckbucket.

Seriously, my 15 year old sort of likes RCT but, she's quite adept at SIMS......and, with all the money I've invested in EVERY FUCKING ADD-ON, I'll let her rock to the beat of her own drum. And, she DOES play drums...so toss the "learn to play a real instrument" shit out the fucking door. She's been in the HS band since she was in 7th grade and she's quite good. A sophomore and co-captain of the drum corps.....

And, we (she) has GHIII for pc and is pretty good at it but, it's just the guitar and she REALLY wants the drum kit. So, the drum kit is probably THE most important part of the equation as far as what we end up getting for the Wii.

And, thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

I play drums all the time, and it has to be the most fun I've had in a while. It takes a little while to get used to, but it's fun when you do get used to it. Heh, to think, I started off as an easy player that would fail multiple times, and now I'm one awesome drummer. I guess a little practice does go a long way.
