RCT Discussion / NE-RCDB?

Just wondering if this has been done before, and If not, could be kinda cool, maybe start a group project and get some good info into a spreadsheet?

This sounds like exactly the kind of number-crunching I like to do, but realistically, on the scale of all RCT parks in the database, it would be a logistical nightmare. Would you draw the line at Golds? Silvers? Designs? Submissions that didn't get accolades? How would you classify custom rides or rides built in fantasy parks? (Epica, Gensis, and En Midvinternattsdröm come to mind)

eh, you could just limit it to realistic spotlight parks in rct2....that would make it easy and simple. but yeah, otherwise its hard to do as fun as it is to look at

I really like the idea, but I would say only for Bronze and up, they come around every week or 2 so it shouldn't be too hard to keep up with.

Just anything realistic was my plan...
I kinda had a list that I wanted to do, all realistic parks that are somewhat coaster based.
Watkins Woods, both Six Flags spotlights, Woodfall Park, Violet gardens, Hutchinson, Thrill Point:WoA, and so on. In the Future, Starpointe and my SF would be fun additions.

not gonna do parks that dont win anything, unless it's something special.

Every week or 2?? Where have u been lately. Haha

But i think this is a great idea. Just for accolades I'd say. Agave it sent up exactly like RCDB. Links to the parks page. Ppl could even upload their favorite screens of the coasters for the pictures. Bedides the fact this seems like a nightmare to do I think itd be really cool.

Hey Austin, I love this idea. Hit me up if you'd like some help with the less realistic parks.

I think all spotlights and golds deserve these...

Old NE Spotlight pages would list the main rides and what types they were kinda like that at the bottom of the pages over the map.

I would love to see something like that again.
  • FK+Coastermind%s's Photo
^^^i remember both liking and disliking that. sometimes it was fun to see, but sometimes the lists was really random and included a bunch of lame water-rides or weird exploration rides just to make the park seem full of things....mixed feelings...like mixed greens...ugh

I would like to see this for all major rides (coasters, rapids, etc.) in all parks that received accolades (Bronze and up, Designs) or something like that.

That said I wouldn't help out so I have no room to make demands hahaha

Well not that often but it's normally that at least, I haven't seen many that were closer together than that.

Hell, I wouldn't mind doing this for every new park that comes in that wins something. Could be put into the release pages if the admins are interested, would be kinda neat. The hard part would be filling in the already finished parks. Plus it could be opened to the community where people could add in there own rides and whatnot. I'll post the file later, and let people at it. Copy paste will be a beautiful thing.

What I've been doing is taking a picture of the ride stats in game with my phone, makes it easy to just copy it in and go to the next picture, rather than in and out of the game.

Here's all of the 2 Six Flags Spotlights.

Should I add in some more catagories? RCT has a lot more, like G forces, Average speed, number of drops and total airtime that could be usefull. If anything I think I'll start putting on the Airtime counts.
  • Ling%s's Photo
I would personally remove the year because it's kind of meaningless.

RCT's method of handling G-Forces is pretty unrealistic so I wouldn't bother.

One thing that would be cool to see at the end of this is which coaster styles are most- and least-used in both games.
  • Liampie%s's Photo
Remove the year, because it's bullshit. Or use that column for the release date.

Add game type and release type.

If you want to do this for all parks, you'll need a system... Don't start with random parks, because it will become a mess. Start with the most recent spotlight and work your way back. When all the spotlights are done, do the same with golds. Or if there are more people interested, assign each person to an accolade category.

Yeah, I'd love this, too. I vaguely remember some really old RCT1 tools that would list all rides and their stats from an SV4. Was hoping something like that could be used to auto-parse all the files on the site and generate a database. As a full-blown site feature only Geewhzz could give you an opinion. The only way I can think of for this to work sustainably was if we had some killer tools that would output what we want from an SV4/6. Admins and Assistant Admins could then copy-paste the data to the server when approving new submissions.

I think as a member-based "let's generate a collaborative excel sheet" forum project kind of thing this is much more feasible though.

I was always hoping for something like this.

Something that you can go to, say if you wanted to look up all the B&M Floorless coasters that have been made in RCT. Or Arrow Corkscrews etc.

I do think you need a system if you are going to do this, and I think a database would work better than a spreadsheet.

Anyone know a good online spredasheet creator that can be edited by anyone with a link? I'd like to get this going again.

  • Jaguar%s's Photo

Google Sheets... I'm curious as to how all the weird fantasy coasters will be recorded.

  • Austin55%s's Photo
Google seems to have a lot of limitations. Can only have so many rows and columns and I'm not sure if sorting is possible?
