Chauncey, the bands drummer was a member of the church of satan, who was taught to speak backwards. He later baught the house of the first satanic minister, and the house was called the 'toolshed', and contained an elaborate satanic shrine in the basement.
The message is there, and if you remove some of the bass distortion, its clear as day. Plus, listen to the song forwards. Theres an extra warble layer over the voice track that they used to round off the 'S's and add extra consonants.
Listen to it again at a good volume as you read these words:
Here's to my sweet satan. The one who's little path would make me sad, who's power is satan. He'll give you 666. There was a little toolshed where he made us suffer, oh sad satan -

Well, after reading about that I wanted to see if there were any other subliminal messages like that and I found one song that scared the shit out of me. "Kiss, Kiss, Kiss" by John Lennon/Yoko Ono when played in reverse can be translated into "Satan is coming... six, six, six" and then at the end in a soft voice: "We killed John Lennon"... what's scary about it is that the record hit stores before he was shot... music is scary... I don't think it's just a coincidence that that was there. Nor do I think it's a coincidence that the Satanic phrases were in "Stairway to Heaven". -

Aphex Twin kicks ass, man. In fact, most of the artists on the Warp label do. Warp is almost as decent as Crippled Dick Hot Wax Records*.And Aphex Twin actually has his face implanted into a few of his songs, which is kind of cool. You just need to download the right kind of program, and play them.
Actually, some people thought it was a "Demon Face", but that was later proved wrong.
I didn't know about this face non-sense, however. Which songs? What kind of program?
I demand answers.
Anyway. I'm surprised more people didn't know about the "Stairway To Heaven" subliminal. It's pretty well-known. And actually kind of cool.
I'm not entirely decided on whether it's intentional or not. It doesn't sound very clear. On the other hand, the real song sounds kind of strange in parts (which is what Foozy was referring to).
Besides which, I believe the normal lyrics include the line, "Some words have two meanings", or something along those lines (forgive the misquote - it's been a while since I've heard it). Which gives the song a whole new meaning...
Let's assume the song is about a stairway to heaven that leads straight down to hell. Using reverse speach in it is actually a great way to convey that.
But whatever.
If it's intentional, it's a really cool addition, like easter eggs in comptuer games.
And if it's unintentional... Shame.

*They make porn-groove.
On an unrelated note, Chris Morris' original airing of "Brass Eye" featured a subliminal message during the end credits: "Grade Is A Cunt". Michael Grade was, at that time, the head of C4, and he demanded that some scenes from the show be cut.
Fucking hysterical.
Hey - anyone remember the "rats" subliminal message from George Bush's campeign adverts?
[this post was originally intended to go in Troubled Crowd.. But, uh, even though I hit submit, it apparently didn't appear, or some shit. I blame Adix, whatever the case.]
