The BareNaked Ladies, they are the most diverse band I've ever seen, ranging from songs that tear up your eyes to songs that you can't help but smile at, whimsical poetic lyrics and a mastery of over 40 instruments some conventional (guiatrs, drums) some not so (fisher price xylophone, pow-wow bands)
some suggestions for songs: Brian Wilson, Spider in My Room, Humour of the Situation, The Old Apartment, and Who Needs Sleep -

Fatboy Slim
Groove Armada
The Chemical Brothers
Techno at its best.
If you want trance, I suggest you buy the easy-to-find "12 Inches of Cox," by Carl Cox. That's a pretty good nonstop with some familiar trance/euro tracks. Personally, I enjoy the "Trance: The Vocal Session" series. I have 2002 and 4. Nice stuff, they have. Or you could just IM me an I'll hook you up with some tunes, whatever. -

These are some good bands I think you should listen to:
Savatage
Threshold
Rhapsody
Nightwish
Sonata Arctica
Freedom Call
Masterplan
Symphony X
These bands are all really individual and totally amazing! They range from Progressive Metal (Threshold) to Gothic Metal (Nightwish) with a bit of Epic Metal (Rhapsody) and Symphonic Power Metal (Symphony X) mixed in! If you like alternate types of metal, then I suggest you listen to some of those bands.
