General Chat / The New Mel Gibson Movie Passion

Anyone gonna see it? I kinda want to just because Gibson is such a great actor, and could make the death of jesus spectacular. As well i want to see if it really is antisemitic.
  • lazyboy97O%s's Photo
I plan to see it. I am very happy that Jesus' death isn't so clean. Everytime I see something about his death he always seems happy and content. How can a man that damned God be happy, content, and be without so few wounds. This seems to show a good depiction of exactly how brutal the Romans could be. Jesus will actually be shown suffering, just like he did.

Don't you mean humans in general?

From the title i'd assumed it'd be some sort of porn movie.

lol, it's actually called Passion of Christ or something, and it's about Jesus or something

    Lazyboy-

Just when did Jesus "damn" God?

But anyways, I'm looking forward the the film after having seen the trailer. It seems very realistic and chilling...

It's actually called The Passion of the Christ. Its website is:

What if Jesus didn't actually physically die on the cross?
There's a difference between that and excommunication or 'spiritual death'. But I digress...

I'll probably see it eventually, but I haven't seen a religious movie that didn't suck.
I'm a little skeptical of this one aswell.
That, and the captions from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon bugged the shit out of me.
It'd be the exact same thing with Passion, I assume.

the captions from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon bugged the shit out of me.

That's what's keeping me from seeing it. I rather watch a movie where I can understand what people say without reading everything they say through the whole damn movie.

If you watch CTHD with dubbing, you're commiting original sin.

That film is one of the greatest films i've ever seen, and to truly experience it you need the emotion put in to the original language, rather than dubbing.

It's not as if much is said in that film anyway - the real meaning is in the expressions, the silences, the gestures.

I am in awe of that film, I really am. My most treasured DVD.

What emotion? CTHD is filled to the brim with characters that we don't give a damn about (Fat and Yeoh), ones that are whiny and have no character arc at all (Ziyi), or ones that are simply annoying (the Jade Fox).

Their are three things that are worth their weight in salt in CTHD. The fight choreography, Tan Dun's beautiful score, and the cinematography. Everything else is second rate at best, and that includes the script and acting.
  • mantis%s's Photo
Well I don't agree with that, but hey, i'm not you and you're not me.

How about we agree that you don't like CTHD and I don't like AI. That way we're even!

I got bored of that film within 10 mins, i cant stand films that are dubbed. I cant stand watching films in other languages...... :peace:

I completely forgot about ou A.I. discussion.

    Agreed.

    But you're still wrong. :)

    Now that's just ignorant.

"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

Now about the languages in The Passion of the Christ, I am rather disappointed that the movie is subtitled. Orgininally Gibson said it wouldn't be subtitled because the story is so strong that you don't need to know what they are saying. The visuals were supposed to do all the talking. But despite this I still plan tosee the movie as it looks really good.

    Makes sense... you're foreign.

That I am, that I am.

But it's a shame that my native film industry has been less than busy. In fact, none of the many films i've seen recently have been British made.

(On a side note, School of Rock...er...rocked!)
  • Jacko Shanty%s's Photo
Brits gave us some good TV though. Mr. Bean, Who's Line, American Idol, and most recently The Office..

    ..and don't forget Teletubbies. :)
