General Chat / Corkscrew.

Do you think Corkscrew at AT should be removed to make way for a new coaster?

Whyat do you guys think should happen to Corkscrew. It was revolutionary 25 years ago but now with Nemesis, Air, Oblivion and the upcoming Spinball Whizzer, it just doesn't cut it for todays thrill-seeking populous.
So I say down with Corkscrew it is getting far too old for AT and Ugland isn't the best themed area at Alton is it?

    What is your opinion.

No matter how much it hurts (and it really does) I still think it's really cool with all the bones and everything.

But yeah it'd be cool to have a woodie or something.

I don't think they should get rid of ANYTHING. The old steelies are the best rides, even though they hurt alot. Corkscrew at Alton Towers is no different than Corkscrew at Valleyfair and thats my favorite coaster there.

So yeah. I don't think they should get rid of it. But it could be refurbished. But DONT get rid.

Valleyfair! has an Arrow manufactured custom-model coaster.
Although I believe Cedar Point has an identical or nearly-identical version.
Alton Towers has a Vekoma manufactured off-the-shelf model Corkscrew.
    They're completely different. :yup:

Get rid. It dislocated my knee last time I rode it.

Lol. I knew that you hated it and that shitty Vekoma track it consists of.

I think the whole of Ugland should be replaced by a fourth B&M such as a floorless or stand-up. A woodie would also be nice.

I took a break for three days with my family at alton towers a couple of years back. At the end of the first day i went on corkscrew fo the first time, without a que, WOOHOO. After my first time riding it(even my sisiters went on it) i ran back around through the que. Got on again. The next thing that happened was a nice long trip to the medical center for treatment on my neck. I say screw(hehe) the corkscrew and put in a merry-go-round. I'd rather ride 1 of them than the corkscrew again. But yes, i went back there for a day trip, with friends and i rode it again.. It hurt again but it was either that or wait on my own for an hour while they qued up.

The woodie they are planning should be put in, then remove corkscrew for something smoother. Even the track on this corkscrew is boring, especially against the other 'first class' coasters like air, nemesis and oblivion.

Everytime I ride it I come off the ride feeling sick, not one of my favs but the ride is a classic.

The small old Arrow custom corkscrews are indeed some of the best running rides of their type. Corkscrew at Cedar Point is still a pretty decent ride, even 28 years after it's Red, White and Blue trains started rolling along the course. The only difference between the ValleyFair! Corkscrew and Cedar Points in the ValleyFair! one has a helix at the end that the CP one does not.

Vecoma rides are very rough, and it isn't helped that Alton Towers has neglected it's Corkscrew for years. If it was given a little tender loving care then that could fix everything. Reworking some of the joints on the ride and possably even replacing some of the track and supports could help greatly. If nothing else they could change the old Arrow trains (yes Vecoma used to buy their trains from Arrow) for newer, lower sitting trains it would help get the heartlining fixed up a bit which would smooth things out.

I don't know. All old rides are great if the park their in has given them plenty of TLC, but AT has failed to do that with the old Corkscrew coaster.

Maybe they were the best rides of their type because the only competition was Vekoma. CP's corkscrew is a crappy ride, the otsrs are not the same ones that Arrow used on later coasters and they lock in at your mid thighs instead of your waist, which makes the airtime on its hill very painful and the hangtime on the double corkscrew also hurt. It may be a good ride if Revolution was opened a few months earlier and wasn't so much better of a ride. The old schwartzkopf loopers absolutely kill the small corkscrew coasters. Corkscrew has a good location over the midway and such, but the ride is like less than a minute and hurts too much to enjoy, and I'm the type of person who actually enjoys riding Viper at SFGADV.

^ Woah-K. I see. I've never had that bad of luck with Corkscrew at Cedar Point... But then again I do pin my head to one side through the corkscrews themselfs to keep my ears from being beaten into a liquid. The airtime and the first loop are great though... (to me) Unfortunently I haven't ridden many Schwarzkopfs. SooperDooperLooper (Hersheypark), Wizzer (SFGAmer.) and Tig'rr (Indiana Beach) is all I've gotten. And SooperDopperLooper is the only one with a loop. All three are fun rides though, better than any arrow (except maybe Magnum). I wasn't comparing these Arrows to anything though, I was talking about the rides quality in their own right.

If removing Corkscrew was somehow what they had to do to get that insane terrain woodie put in... DO IT! Otherwise, I'm sort of indifferent.

It did hurt when I last went on it, but I think it should be kept.

Its gonna be taken down for the new woodie anyway which is, if they get the go ahead, gonan be huge. They're hoping itll be the tallest, fastest and some other record breaking thing. I hope they dont get rid of corkscrew though. They should try and find somewhere else to locate it in the park or give it to one of the other Tussaud parks, its great coaster. I wouldnt care if they re-themed it. It was my first coaster and it does hurt but its alot of fun!

As long as people are riding I guess they don't have a real reason to take it down unless it is causing major injuries. But hey, look at Manhattan Express.
  • Loopy%s's Photo
Its a nice ride but it is to rough. You bang your head off the restaints and im left with ears that hurt all day.So i would get rid of it and put in a floorless but bury it like nemesis.
