    Uuummmm......NO

Vivienne Westwood did a VERY similar collection over 10 years ago. The Faux nudity, the architectural draped fabric, the "QE" painted tart face...it's all been done....If this is where Galliano is headed, then Dior is in trouble......there is not a single new idea in any of those photos....and for him....that says something.

I fucking hate all this "look at me, I'm fitting into the gay stereotype" shit.

Talk about it at www.iamgayanddontyouknowit.com or something.

Dean, don't look like a fool.
He could say the same thing back to you.

You're completely right. Thanks for saying it, cos I wouldn't have known how to put it.

I saw an article in the paper about Tracy Emin going to the Haute Couture shows - was quite interesting.

the first one is hot, but they all look like some porcelain doll or something... which isn't a good thing.

    Omg. There's some good streetwear.

    But I'm not gay.

Seriously though, I accept gays are like that because of natural reasons, but it's the resultant attention seeking and use of words like "darling" and posting topics like this that really annoy me. It's also, incidently, what causes stereotyping and discrimination.

But that was over 10 years ago. You could also say the same thing about Prada's '03 ready-to-wear coping YSL's 1977 Orient collection. It is what is in style, might I add that everyones collection cannot be 100% original, stylish and gorgeous all at the same time, it is literally impossible.

Also, Vivienne Westwood tapped QE, Rokoko and Edwardian. Galliano tapped Austrian, Russian and German Royalty. Im actually a bit disappointed at how small the collection is this season, only 28 looks, Galliano usually has 40 or 50, and there were ALOT of possiblities with the theme he was going for.

You have to admit the kibuki face was getting old, Im so glad he dropped it for something more natural.

To rehash something only 10 years old shows no originality....much like the current trend towards grunge here in the states..(as we just finished re-visiting the 80's during the mid to late 90's)....and as much as I'd like to think that what Galliano's doing now is great work (as I do regard him as something of a fashion genius), sadly, I'm underimpressed......I think that he needs to take a leap into the unknown, and tap into the truly amazing creative potential that he possesses when he's not trying to be pedantic. That is the best way to describe this collection...pedantic....displaying or gloating in one's own self knowledge....showing us that he know what he knows (about fashion), and forgetting to include the substance that should accompany that knowledge.

That's probably too deep a description for a topic about anorexic girls in bad kabuki face paint, wearing entirely too much taffeta.....but then again, deeper discussions have been waged over much more trivial things.

And deano...no one is FORCING you to look at this thread......seriously dude, go take your masculinity pill, fart in public, spit on the ground, and all will be right in your world again...I promise.

    Those pics are indeed fabulous.

I'm quite the fan of the second picture.

    I have my own little ideas of what he could've done to expound upon this collection;

Galliano could have had a bit of an equestrian theme (also, a nice trend) such as a riding habit (connected to a crown or top hat), riding boots. A slim-cut cutaway jacket with tails paired with a high volume skirt would have looked hot, the equestrian theme would be humourous because QE was fond of having sex with horses.

Once again QE liked bathing in blood, so Galliano could have done a vampire theme; volumous black, red, gold gowns with dark stoned jewelry set in black gold. He could have tons of lace (big trend) and crosses (another trend), maybe have something of a bat for a crown (the general shape).

*edit* 800th post.. and a great thing to waste it on.

Isn't there a fashion website where you could discuss this with others, who have a bigger intrest in, Christian Dior, than the members here at NE?

You may have had a valid point; however your stereotyping of a straight "masculine" person completely invalidates your disagreement with my argument, which was exactly the same thing but in the opposite direction. It's actually Dior who annoys me... I don't mind people having an interest in fashion, or even occassionly mentioning words like "darling", but Dior does it so consistently and "in your face" it's hard to ignore it. The subject of fashion annoys me anyway, I just find the impracticality and exploitiveness of it superficial and useless personally. To each his own though.
  • mantis%s's Photo
I'm guessing Meretrix did that to illustrate the absurdity of your original post.

And also, it's not just gay people that are interested in fashion, you know? Just like it's not just straight people who are interested in football (I use that example because it's what you seem to enjoy discussing).

dragonfly - this is basic chat. don't even think about expecting people to only discuss things you want to discuss.
  • Meretrix%s's Photo
Wow chief....sarcasm slips right by you these days.......

but I digress....if fashion annoys you, then why on earth are you A) Looking at this topic (still?) and B) Posting in this topic?

And Jacko...I bet those are just costume jewelry earrings that weigh next to nothing.

Edit: Hmmmm....when you try to make a "capital B" and then parenthesis, it makes that weird little smilie......strange.
