it's just more challenging for the builder and more interesting for the viewer to see what people can do on a set micro bench.
Congrats to Cocoa, and....the lower placed entries...ya got's ta step ya game up. Because I KNOW that next month, there's gonna be at least one entry that's gonna be tough to beat.
mi-cro [mahy-kroh]
1.extremely small
2.minute in scope or capability
Like I stated previously and will reiterate now, there was nothing in Louis' entry that fit the criteria above. It seemed like an attempt to try to cleverly bend the rules. IMO, it failed. And, to answer both parts of your question...I was one of the judges.
Soooo, Could us non-LL'ers have an overview?

But seriously, I found Louis' entry clever and well done.
Anyway im happy with 2nd runner up. Its not my best work but It gave me some RCT time in a month I've been out of practice thanks to work.
This topic is about micros, so please no more comments about K0NG or I'll close this for a while.
DBB - Was very close between your entry and Louis. Just the detail and ideas on your micro gave it a slight edge. I have never been that crazy about the "piece of a park" concept, but you did it very well here. Now please make the rest of the park and get a real accolade with it
eXtremis - Very cool layout. Never even occurred to me that you could do that for a micro. The station and supports were great, just otherwise there was not much else. You get the MM originality award for sure tho
Sabretooth - Not your best work? Well honestly it was my favorite of your entries so far. I love atmospheres people can create in LL and this had some of that stuff I like. If you really try in one of these rounds I know were all gona see something amazing... and hacked
Glassland Towers - Damn! Nice skyscrapers. Kinda wanted this in my top 3, just the buildings seems repetitive and the coaster did not really fit imo. Still, congrats on getting the old fuck bucket's #1 ranking and bursting onto the scene strong
Pixton Village - Very nice atmosphere on this little park. Was a charming little entry and I loved the cycle monorail, we hardly ever see them, but you pulled off a nice one here. Nice work, just in this round it took more than nice to hit it big. I hope to see you again next round, maybe with a hartline coaster or a reverse whoa-belly
Fuedal Freefall - Nice B&M dive machine, just the entry was fairly plain. I think that if you get a little more creative you have the skill to pull off a MM winner. Hope you try again soon and thanks for the cameo
Round the bend - The coaster layout was good, just you really need to step up the creativity and try and work in some themeing if you want to find yourself at the other end of the standings. Thanks for entering a record (matching) third time
Looking forward to some more comments... on the micros!

nobody. i get the rules and all and i'm not saying they need to be changed to suit me better. i'm just saying... would you rather see a 'micro' part of a park that isn't there? or would you rather see somebody take on the challenge and cram what they can into a set size? it's all personal opinion but i don't think you can argue that fact that cocoa's entry, while very nice, looks like a small portion taken out from a larger park that isn't there. while roomie's entry actually looks like it's own park. and to me, that represents the true challenge and 'point' of a micro.

The thing I love about this competition is people interpret the brief differently. As long as Louis's entry was in 400 squares I see no problem. He obviously built something beautiful to get second place.
Congrats Cocoa, you know I love your work. Also congrats to Roomie for another entry, you make Britain proud
Not sure if that could have pushed Louis to first, but it made for an interesting debate.
so some people were complaining about my 'section of a park'. when I made my micro for the hannukah thing, I fit in a contained park but I felt that actually constrained me. I had to keep my rides and buildings small and compact and it didn't feel real, let alone realistic to me. so this time I built the way I wanted to and tried to fit in a good amount of stuff without compromising my vision of it or my style of building.
@cena: that's exactly why i thought mine would fail- it wasn't peepable and there was just not much action in it.
so lets just say it now
